• Turorials: Web: Using SSI I: The Basics To learn SSI, you need to be an experienced HTML user. SSI stands for ServerSide Includes. Most servers are not compatible with SSI. II: SSI Coding Ok, most websites use either one or two sidebars. You need to make a left.html and a right.html with links or whatever you want on it (SSI is similar to frames if you are used to frames). After making it/them you need to make main.shtml or index.shtml. Where the left sidebar should be placed you should put the following code: <!--#include virtual="left.html"--> You do the same thing for the right sidebar except replace left.html with right.html. After doing all the coding you are ready to upload. Read below to know what to do after you upload. III: After You Upload... After you upload all your files to your server check to see if it worked. If it does not work, you will see the following message: [an error occurred while processing this directive] here are some possible reasons as to why this happenned: Your server does not support SSI. The file has a .html or .htm extension instead of .shtml The code links to the wrong page. Folders are not anticipated in the code. If your file is in the main folder, and it links from /multi, then the link should be /left.html as it should be with any other folders. IV: Calling for CGI Scripts This command will execute a CGI script you have installed. An example of a CGI script is like a text counter or a hit tracker: <!--exec cgi="/cgi-bin/somewhere.cgi"--> |
