• Tutorials: Web: Creating custom error pages Creating custom error pages ---------------------------------- Your server must allow you to upload .htaccess files. All files must be uploaded in ASCII. You must create the error pages(see below). 1) First of all create your custom error pages that the browser will redirect to. The main ones are: 404 - Page Not Found, I.E a broken link(save as 404.html) 403 - Unauthorised access, this means you are trying to get to a page you dont have authority to access.(save as 403.html) 500 - Forbidden, this means no-one at all is allowed to access this page/directory, even the webmaster.(save as 500.html) Now you have created those, lets move on to Step 2. 2) Open up Notepad or wordpad and enter this information:
Once you have entered that go to te menu and click File > Save As, then type in .htaccess and then select All files from the drop down menu and save it. Now lets go on to step 3. 3) Upload .htaccess, 403.html, 404.html, 500.html to your base directory(The directory with your main page in) in ASCII mode. It is now finished!!!!! Type in a weird URL after your site address (i.e http://www.yoursite.com/jfdsgnrbter) and your 404 error page should be displayed!!!!!!! |
