- Marketers are using Anime to help promote sales ?
•According to an article at smh.com they are saying that marketer are now using anime shows like DBZ and Beyblade to help promote sales of Food products. This is the article:

***It's the 21st-century version of the spinning top, and children can't get enough. Each top has unique qualities, based on characters from Japanese-style cartoons, which go into battle with other tops. In typical 21st-century style, it's a marketing battle too. These tops are given away in potato chip packets, in a move which encourages boys aged five to eight to keep buying the same brand of chips and build up collections (UNREAL).

In Twisties and CCs, Smith's Snackfoods is giving away Tazo Topz, which feature the dragon-like characters from the Beyblade cartoon. Their rival, Snack Brands Australia - which makes Thins, Samboys and Cheezels - uses characters from another animated series, Dragonball Z.

The small, plastic tops - about the size of a 20 cent piece - follow the massive success of Beyblade's rip-cord spinning tops.

The chip manufacturers have seized the opportunity to use this craze for their marketing. But with children always changing fads, the manufacturers must constantly reinvent their collectable ideas.***

What can these people think of next....senzu beans....heh?

- I'm Baaack! (UPDATE)
•Hey DBGTN Fans, I am back after an extremely long break. I was mainly working on my site, which is down due to Saiyan Invasion's server. I mainly stayed quiet because many hackings were going on and I was spammed and had my site hacked. But I'm back here to do my job. I will be restarting the fan art. I had it un-organized so this weekend that will change that. I'll start making some Adobe Tutorials and maby add some content.

~~~Update~~~
Since this post is useless I decided to add some DBZ news so here it is:
The FUNimation producers are looking for bright new talent. Now’s your chance to shine and give it all you got. This could be your big break. Send in a three (3) minute VHS video tape of you singing karaoke to our new Dragon Ball GT theme song. Get in costume, make a stage, whatever it takes, but make it good. Remember this is your chance to shine.
Winners will be featured in a DVD extra in an upcoming FUNimation video release.
To participate in this contest, performers must submit an audition on VHS format video tape no longer than three (3) minutes in length. All video tape auditions must be postmarked no later than March 10, 2003 at 5:00pm CST. One entry per person.
Send your VHS tape and entry form to the following address:
P.O. Box 48610
Fort Worth, TX 76148-0610
If you are interested in the contest above, for more information please visit, http://www.dragonballgt.com/index2_gt.cfm?page=contests
- New contest?
•Well it has been declared Funimation said that they are going to change the contest. Funi is saying that fans can create their own version of the theme song of dragonball GT the winners will be included in future DVD releases as extras. The DVD will also feature the original Japanese openings and closings with the original music.
Funi probably gotten so many hate mails from the Dragonball fans that they probably had to change the contest....
Now if you live in UK you probably have already heard that DBGT is going to be on Cartoonnetwork and now they Cartoonnetwork has said that DBGT is now starting in March 3,2003 *not sure what time* but I hope that the fans over UK won't be dessapointed oover the english dub.....
Anime news:
According to the schedule of cartoonnetwork, they are saying that anime series Trigun premieres on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim in March 31 and follow by with Inuyasha.
here is the schedule:
11:00 p.m. - Futurama
11:30 p.m. - Home Movies
12:00 a.m. -*Trigun*
12:30 a.m. -*Inuyasha*
1:00 a.m. - Cowboy Bebop
1:30 a.m. - Reign: The Conqueror
---"i haven't seen the trigun yet but i hear that it's extremely good, i can't wait for trigun and Ruinin Kenshin that is starting in toonami". And the last news is that Lupin the 3rd is going to be now a live action movie, Gerald R. Molen, producer of the Oscar-winning Schindler's List. He has the film rights to make a movie of lupid the 3rd and he is determined to make it a box office success. The maker of lupid the 3rd said that "I'm so thrilled I could fly, I want the film to continue as long as the 007 series." So other words this probably was his dream come true for him. *an updated of Bebop the movie, sony now said that the movie is going to be shown in April 4, 2003.*..........
.......thats for now .....LATZ
- Let the Reviews Begin...
•A topic in my last post was based on the practically dead site reviews portion of our community section. Well, after some encouraging feedback, I decided to put some life back into it. I will begin to review anime sites regularly, meaning a couple every week hopefully. I posted one review so far, and should have a couple more up by the end of the week. There is still the opportunity for you fans to submit your own reviews as long as you're registered members. I will offer unbiased reviews, with a very detailed review system so you guys will get the best reviews possible. I've already selected several sites to do first, but I'll also squeeze in those sites on the waiting list. Only God knows how long they've been on there lol. We're still working out a few bugs, but the whole package should be ready soon. If you have a particular interest in the site reviews, I'm just letting you know that any update concerning them will be posted in the community section.
- Random Stuff
•Greetings. I know, I know, I said I would put up a humor section last weekend, and I haven't...well, I'm sorry lol. As many of you can understand, unexpected things can happen that keep your hands tied. Unfortunately, now that I finally have some time, I'm just not in my "groove" and just can't seem to write anything even mildly humorous. But, I have a few small tidbits to toss to you guys.
First, this really dosen't relate to DBZ, but I figured 99% of you guys are fans of Final Fantasy VII. Well, PSM announced that FF VII will soon set a fad by having a sequel. After promising results from FF X-2 trials, developers have stated that other previous FF games will have follow-ups, probably starting with the series' 7th installment. In movie news, Spiderman 2 will begin production in April, and will feature Doctor Octopus (also known as "Doc-Oc") as the main villian...I was somewhat dissapointed in hearing that. I was hoping for Harry Osbourne to follow up in his father's footsteps as the second Green Goblin...oh well, I guess the 3rd movie will make room for that.
Now then, onto the site. I received a few e-mails over the past few days concerning glitches in the humor section. Hopefully those will be fixed soon. Also, I've been debating on doing a major overhaul of our site reviews in the community section. Unfortunately, it has been frozen, and thus forgotten about. Recently I got the urge to do some reviewing, but I figured before I got started, I would check in with you guys. So, if you'd be interested in seeing my reviews, leave some comments here or drop me an e-mail. Based on the results, I'll decide whether or not to go through with it. Once and if I do start reviews, I will provide instructions for getting your own site reviewed, and other details.
Finally, lately I've been receiving a fairly high amount of e-mail and instant messages about DBZ games, for what reason, I don't know. Most of these were about upcoming PS2 games and other games that are to be released soon. So here are my thoughts on these subjects to clear things up so I won't be swamped with more requests to answer people's gaming questions lol.
-Budokai, in my opinion, won't have a sequel, and really shouldn't have one. If it does, by some miracle, it will only include characters that are post-Cell Games. And it will probably be cheaper than Budokai. A new DBZ PS2 game will definitely be released in the furture, but will probably follow a different format or genre than Budokai.
-The continuation of Legacy of Goku will feature mild improvements, but will basically remain sub-par.
-Ultimate Battle 22 is not a good game, so don't buy it. Save your money for DBZ Legends, which will give you an awesome experience.
Ok, hopefully that'll fill some holes in your brains lol.
- Info on DBGTN Server
•Today I did some work on the DBGTN server to improve the security I increased the effeciency of the apache server along with a few patches here and there to make things run a bit smoother, I added a Server load script to the bottom of the site to show average server load time for 1,5,15 minute interals along with server uptime. The server should run a bit smoother now, I was running generally .5, .9 faster then before so I consider that good, and if we dont have any more DOS's that will help, if we have any more I'll just use SYN cookies and icmp_deny_all in the ipchains so it wont be hit as bad anyway, thats what I've done so far along with Deano fixing the Sig Vote on the Mini-Board along with adding some more features, peace.
I will be going through prosecuting under the internet act under spam (unsolicited email and since I don't live in Texas there will be a legal rep). - DBZ budokai
•Source Dbzsc.com:
well i was surfing the net and i went to www.dbzsc.com and i started to read there news and i read that Electronic Gaming Monthly has a statement on Dragonball Z Budokai's sales. Bandai the game publisher in east asia announced that DragonBallZ Budokai sold over 1.94 million games in 20 countries worldwide. Budokai was published in the United States by Infogrames. This includes there was no sales from Japan, where the game was only just released on the 13th, thus proving that the franchise has developed some very strong legs outside its home country.
anime news:
FUNimation has taken steps to turn Yu Yu Hakusho into a DBZ-sized marketing phenomenon .The show has moved to Toonami, scheduled to air right after Dragon Ball Z in order to best position Hakusho in the minds of the maturing DBZ audience. Jakks Pacific, new owners of the DBZ toy license, have signed on to create Hakusho action figures. Score, publishers of the DBZ card game, will sell a Hakusho-based CCG.
Bandai has issued a press release confirming that anime series "Kikaider" will be broadcast this summer on Cartoon Network. No confirmation from Cartoon Network itself has been yet given, nor has an exact airdate or the possibility of the series airing on the network's Toonami or Adult Swim programming blocks....
.....well thats all latz.......
- News, Announcements and Update.. oh, my!
•Here's the news courtesy of SzR:
Funimation has publicly announced their intention to redub seasons 1 and 2 (the Ocean Dub) once Pioneer's rights expired. So eventually, you'll have a never before uncut version available. A specific date is unknown at this time but you can be sure we (SzR or us) will update you.
CNX in the UK has begun advertising GT and will air it after they finish up DBZ which should be very soon cause they already started airing it. And well CN, in USA, says In September 2004 they will play ALL episodes of Dragon Ball GT in order. They are only skipping the 15 episodes on video and dvd temporarily.
Announcements...
My email address "webmaster@db-zgt.zzn.com" is no more! I lost the new password and there is no way I can retrieve it so anything sent there is lost for good. I do have a new email address which can easily be found with a little thinking ;)
As far as updates go no real info or anything just minor additions. Fixed a few typos in the absorption info page that was posted by Trigunflame. I added the DBGT US Episode Guide and chose a new site of the moment (Daizenshuu EX).
Well... that's it from me, who probably won't be seen for another two weeks, and I'll try and get more of those Episode Summaries/Screen Shots done for next time :/
EDIT: I decided to move my old site dbgifs.com back into DBGT Network so anyday now I'll be adding all the animated gifs, animated sprites and tutorials. You'll notice it redirects to this site at the moment.
- DBZ on the Simpsons?
•Nothing official, I saw a commercial for the Simpsons 300th Episode (which will be shown tonight) and noticed Homer and some skateboarder rapidly fighting in mid-air on skateboards. I thought this oddly ressembled a DBZ-style battle. So I'll check it out later and see if my hunch was correct.
Also, in case you people haven't heard, the northeastern states are getting pounded with snow. I live in Philly, and of course it's getting the worst...about 2 feet of snow. So I have some free time, and should be getting a new addition to the humor section up soon. I'll definitely have off from school and work tomorrow, and probably Tuesday too. SCORE! >.> ahem....
Finally, I'd like to welcome our new staff. I look forward to having other people lessening my work load lol. Thanks guys :)
- Hello all
•Well hello there, my names Dusty - also known as Trigunflame. I have admired this site since its founding, and the continued evolution of its growth. Anyway some of the people that know me, "Know" that I have multiple talents in that of Webmaking, so I will be performing multiple functions like Frank & Deano. Mainly tending to the content of DBGTN including writing Totally Original new content, thats in depth, concise, and gets the point across. I can also do some PHP coding although not to the effect as Deano, but I can make my way and will probably release a few of my own lil' scripts here and there for you to mess around with. Also if you have any questions about PC's, Programming, or Tech stuff I'll be glad to answer them on AIM : Trigunflame & email : Webmaster@sssvegeta.com so feel free to ask some questions if you need some help. So um Im glad to be here :)
Also on another note Deano asked me to mention the newseletter system he's setup based on the "AutoResponder" protocal available to us, when you send a blank email to this address it will send you the weekly news on different things on DBGTN.com, (Note: This is not a subscription, you get a newsletter everytime you send the email to the adress) So basically all you have to do is send a Blank Subject and Content based email to this address : ( newsletter@dbgtn.com ) so enjoy, it should have some good info about whats going on with DBGTN about each week. Peace - TF
[edit] I have just added a Absorbtion Guide to the General Info section or just click here I'll be adding more pictures and maybe even real descriptive summary to each characters type of absorbtion later on, peace.
•I have just finished sorting out the image gallery because we had quite a few errors coming from there :o. It is now in the same format as the animation cels which i know you just love looking at :D.
Image Gallery
I am also going to try and sort out all the downloads tonight, but it won't be through a script that is easy to get access to and exploit, it will be through a script that i am going to make that only site admins are allowed to access, and those files to see if we are admins are not stored on the site :D. I am also thinking of having a random image on one of the bars in version 8 on the left or right, what do you think?
- DBGT theme song sucks?
•This past week Funimation received criticism from die hard fans of Dragonball that they are saying that they would have preferred the original Japanese music that should of had been left in place during the americanization process of the series. But this news is way old actualy some people even like funi's music in the show but other half of the people just hate it. This is just been a matter of taste of how you like the music. But Funi has produced something that all fans of Dragonball across the broad are unanimously agreeing is pure crap.The whole intro for DBGT in the english version has been crap because it's like a rap/hip pop style and that dosen't go with the series. Even some part of the show from DBZ has been used in the opening part of DBGT. This is what i call crap i'm sorry people but it's just something that funi should of spend more time on it.
- Something Small.
•well it's no big news i already said it before but i'll say it agian. Well the old 1995 game for PS1 is coming to america and no people it's not DBZ hyper dimension and that's for snes "ohhh wish it comes out in america" but anyways it's DBZ ultimate Battle 22 it's coming to america March 25, 2003. There are 22 Playable Characters and 5 Unlockable Characters in the game. My opinion is the game is okay from a 10 i'll give it a 7 but it's good, it's good for a you're "DBZ collection". You can buy the game when it comes out at http://www.zstore.com. I still haven't seen the Gamecube game for of Budokai or the Gamboy Advance game Legacy of Goku 2 in Zstore.com but as i know DBZ legacy of Goku 2 comes out June 24 and Budokai game comes out August 26....
thats all..latz....
- Akira Live action movie?
•well i bet every one heard about this but i'll say it anyways. Around Fall of 2002 Warner Brothers announced that Stephen Norrington the guy who made the movie BLADE had signed on to direct a live-action version of the anime classic AKIRA. Norrington will reteam with his writer James Robinson to develop the script into a workable draft. Apparently Norrington had been working with WB execs for some time on the film but were having trouble finding a proper way to adapt the film. AKIRA will be produced by Jon Peters, currently working on SUPERMAN and notorious for the stories Kevin Smith has told about him.
It's no secret I'm a huge fan of the original Katsuhiro Otomo anime film, so of course I'm kinda worried about any live-action adaptation hey it's not an easy piece of work that can easily be adapted into a live-action format. I trust Robinson, who by his own admission, is a "fan of the anime for many years." Robinson goes on to say, "I've tried to retain as many iconic elements of the anime as possible." It won't be easy to make a proper AKIRA remake but with Norrington and Robinson behind the plate (hopefully negating the Jon Peters effect) we'll be in good shape. This is one movie I'm REALLY looking forward to...and the DBZ live action one to.... and i hear that cowboy bebop is going to be live action movie to but it's just a rumor about this one......latz
- DBZ is complicated?
•I was surfing the net today when i came upon dbzsc.com and they had a post saying that there is a guy who is lost in dbz. Well it's funny that some americans say that dbz is too confusing for them that when they watch it they do not have a clue about what just happened, well this editor in a TV Guide said that the plot of DBZ was very complicated for him...... here is what he said....
"Fusion Confusion
I wonder if some guy in Japan is watching episodes of Magilla Gorilla and saying to himself, "I have no idea what's going on here, but it's cool-looking". I ask because much imported anime baffles me. Take Cartoon Network's Dragonball Z (weekdays, 5:30 P.M./ET). It's harder to understand than computer schematics.
It's the saga of Goku, a mighty warrior who was sent here to destroy Earth but is now our planet's most devoted defender, protecting us from the ferocious Saiyan. (I know that not from watching but from one of many shrine Websites devoted to Dragonball Z.) Goku has sons, Gohan and Gotan, and an ally named Piccolo, a green alien who sports a turban.
This cartoon has the densest mythology of any show on TV, with an endless array of surreal characters, all with different powers. Goku, for instance, can transform into a big, super buff hulk with a blond leonine mane. Other characters can fuse with one another creating hybrids.
I love watching Dragonball Z because the animation is fantastic, but I might as well keep the sound off.
By David Hiltbrand"
The only thing i'll say about that is "wow, who can't understand DBZ...what is there not to understand about DBZ."
- Budokai Makes December's Top Three
•I had this news a couple weeks ago, but there was no site to post it on lol.
TechTV's 'Extended Play' reported December's top three best sellers. Suprisingly (to me, anyway) I saw Dragonball Z: Budokai beating out Madden 2003, which was #3. Budokai followed up at #2, and lost to the almighty GTA: Vice City at #1. A very successful year for DBZ.
- Past, Present, Future...
•Where have I been? The answer to that is school. I've had to isolate my self from everything else and focus on school since this quarter I have my "make it or break it" courses which will decide a few things in my life. Personally I would like to transfer away from this University as they, like High School, force you to take courses in which in my opinion we will never have a use for (I think it's a scam to get us to go to school longer and squeeze people as much as possible for our tuition fees). I had the site ready to open two/three days after I brought the server back but just haven't been online as much as I used to. It was just a matter of uploading the index page (thanks Deano for taking care of that). I will continue to be away for two more weeks or so? I am not really sure just waiting for these classes to give me a break. On the bright side (well, at least for me), while I’m at school and have an hour or two free I’m usually playing my PlayStation 2 online in SOCOM so if you guys have that game I’ll take you on! (I'm usually in Australia Briefing Room, my username is Supa_fRaNk). I've been taught a lot of JAVA at school so I'll see if I can make use of that and implement something fun for the site. I'll try to do an update or news post or something anytime soon, one thing I don't want to do is shut the site down for personal reasons.
