• Turorials: Web: Installing CGI

Now you have a script you want to install. The only thing i can say to do is read the readme.txt file This is where all the directions are. Lets go over the basics: check and see if the perl path is correct (the default is /usr/bin/perl - for hypermart users it will be /usr/local/bin/perl) If you are not sure what the path to perl is on your server, email your host. Read the directions carefully!

Uploading
When uploading a cgi file(.cgi,.pl) always upload in ASCII mode not Binary. Otherwise you'll get errors.

CHMODing
Many scripts require you to chmod, or change the permissions of a file. If you are not sure what Chmod to 777 means, i suggest you download Cute FTP.
Here are the chmod codes:
666 = Read & Write for all three columns.
755 = Read, Write & Execute for Owner, Read & Execute for Group & Other.
777 = Read, Write & Execute for all.
To CHMOD in WS_FTP or Cute FTP, right-click on a file and choose the 'CHMOD' option or 'Change file attributes'.
(rwx-rwx-rwx) are the permissions for (user - group - public) access, written in octal. For each digit 4=read(r), 2=write(w), 1=execute(x)
