How To Write A Good Editorial

This was written by "Some guy named Rich" and he's a journalist so he knows what he's talking about. This is an excellent guide which although uses brief sentances and complicated language, is a fantastic help.

Hook - No more than 30-40 words. Use description, an anecdote, a striking statement, startling statement, or a question.
Thesis - State your opinion while giving the explanation of the problem or
issue.
Concession - Give the opposing side's strongest argument.
Point 1 - Give a strong reason why others should support your opinion. Be specific in giving supporting evidence.
Point 2 - Give a stronger reason why others should support your opinion.
Again, be specific.
Point 3 - Give the STRONGEST reason why others should support your opinion. Make sure to make this powerful, leading to the conclusion.
Conclusion - Restate your thesis, plan a coarse of action, offer solutions.
Give a clincher that relates to the hook.

*Avoid using second person YOU. The reader does not need to be preached to.
*Direct quotes aren't real common in editorials. Paraphrasing is best unless direct quote is powerful. Partials are widely used.
*When revealing sources, be sure to fully name the source (IE. instead of
saying, "The guardin of Earth" say "Guardian of Earth Dende." Also avoid
using THEY as a source on FIRST reference. Tell who 'they' are.
*The two most powerful opinions should be in the inroduction and the
conclusion.
*Identify the problem or issue. Don't just say "His proposal" without saying what the proposal is about, where it originated, whu it was necessary, etc. Don't just say, "Judging from Cell's reaction" without describing the reaction.
*Omit dead words -- in other words, never ever ever ever ever ever use 'There is' and 'there are!'
*Watch adverb and adjective use. It's perfectly okay to call something
"absurd" if you can justify your position. To call an idea "stupid" or "dumb" is a weak choice of words. We're not in second grade anymore...
*Avoid saying "My opinion is..." This is an editorial. It will be on the
opinions page. The reader should not have to be told.
*Give all information possible, like statistics and case scenarios.
*Make sure you have a strong stance. Be careful not to contradict yourself!
