Z Collectible Card Game
Shenron's Close Look at the Saiyan Style
Super Saiyan or Just a Monkey?
Weakness and Strength of the Saiyan Style
Ok we all know about the saiyan style, this style combining huge attacks with
the biggest card drawing abilities out there makes for a monster attacker. Does
the saiyan style really have all the power its dreamt up to be? Lets go the way
of the saiyan and find out for sure.
Saiyan Style
When we hear this word we think of physical
attacks doing plus 8 stages of damage. Saiyan has some of the biggest physical
attacks out there and if a deck is made correctly you will see a range of
attacks that don't do less than 5 stages of damage. Saiyan is all about the
physicals hitting your opponent hard each turn. While playing against a saiyan
deck one should never forget that one hit could be the end.
Saiyan Energy
Saiyan has some huge energy attacks as well, we
don't see these attacks because they have been ran over by the too perfect set
up by the Trunks Saga Mastery. Why do 6 life cards of damage when you can do 8
and have your opponent at zero? Saiyan does have some monstrous energy attacks
but not as monstrous as its physicals.
Saiyan and its Mastery
The saiyan's Trunks Saga Mastery is just what
every physical beat down wants, lowering your opponent to zero so you can
inflict pain. This is the first mastery allowing you to draw a card and hurt
your opponent without even making an attack. We can't, though, forget about the
new mastery. Yes, the old one hurts your opponent without doing anything, but
don't you have the hankering for one more attack, for one more physical killer
doing plus 8 stages? This is what the new mastery brings up to the plate, a
nice extra card to eliminate your opponent by.
The Weakness of the Style
The cons of this style greatly slow down this
monstrous deck eating machine, for example, the saiyan style doesn't have the
amounts of anti non-combats that a deck needs to defeat a dragon ball deck. In
tournaments dragonball decks so far have been in great numbers and a saiyan
can't live long enough to stop your opponent from playing those annoying dragon
ball searchers that ultimately defeat you.
Next saiyan card drawing ability, this ability
is a double edged sword, yes you gain that extra card to defeat your opponent
but you also take one extra life away from you. In the late game you start to
wish that you didn't have that mastery slowly eating away at your deck. This
can be exploited by a weaker deck just playing defense until you defeat
yourself.
Saiyan Defense
Yes saiyan can dish it out, but can it take it?
I would say no, yes it does have good blocks, but just not enough. With energy
beat downs roaming around the saiyan style just doesn't have the defense it
needs to stay alive.
The pluses of the saiyan style are huge. Taking
the ability to pound your opponent away with little or no strain, but the cons
of this style extremely hurt you in a tournament scene. I suggest you not
playing this style in any major event until you have played every deck and
figured out a strategy for each one.
Sincerely,

IQ's Note:
In order to be able to declare a Saiyan Tokui-Waza (TW) your main personality
must be a saiyan like Goku or Gohan. If your main personality is not a Saiyan
then you may not declare a Saiyan Tokui-Waza. Guess it's a family thing n_n
