Project
A-Kon - Day 1 Journal Entry : June 1, 2001
I guess you could say that my day began at
midnight Friday morning as Josh, formerly Rex Racer of this site, and I arrived
at the Sheraton Hotel in search of the security headquarters. We wander around
for a good thirty minutes before learning the headquarters are in the Westin.
We get there and sign up for our shifts and then head back to Josh’s place to
crash.
We get up around 9:30 A.M. and get ready, then
head out around 9:50. At 10 A.M., we arrive at the Westin and head upstairs to
the dealer’s room, which opens an hour later. At roughly 11:15, it finally
opens. I kind of glance over the booths, making my way to the back where
FUNimation is set up, selling t-shirts, cards, and videos. I get the scoop that
Sean Schemmel will be signing autographs at 2 P.M. with Eric Johnson joining
him at 3 P.M.
I do some shopping and buy a cool poster of all
the DBZ characters. At 12:30, Josh and I stop to get lunch and then head back
to the dealer’s room at 1:15. Inside, I run into Kyle Hebert, my third time
to see him in person. He is having a great time shopping and meeting people. We
chat for a while about PS2 games and DBZ before I head over to the FUNimation
booth again to get in line for Schemmel. He arrives at 2 P.M. and starts
signing autographs and talking in character as Goku and King Kai. I get him to
sign my new poster as well as a t-shirt and a wall scroll that feature Goku and
Bardock. I took a few pictures and got back in line to wait for Eric Johnson.
While waiting, I met a guy named Daniel that works for Saiyanlegacyx.com and
FUNimation and chatted about his site and this one. At 3 P.M., Johnson arrives
and starts signing as well. He and Schemmel then do a dialog in their
respective characters; specifically the scene where Goku finds out that Bulma
is Trunks’ mom. The crowd got a big kick out of it. I get Johnson to sign my
items and then browse around the room some more.
At 4 P.M., Josh and I report to security
headquarters for our shift and get assigned to the dealer’s room door to
check badges before entry into the room. Thus began the most boring three hours
of my life. I got really bored and tired just sitting there. I did see Kyle
Hebert one more time and chatted again with him. He told me to come by his both
tomorrow for his signing to get an original sketch he did of Mystic Gohan and
another of Trunks. At 7 P.M. the dealer’s room closed and I was told to go
back to HQ. They had nothing for me to do so Josh and I left and I dropped him
off at his place before arriving home around 8:30. I was dead tired and went to
bed early, around 11:00. However, I woke up at 3:30 A.M. feeling sick and could
not get back to sleep. Not a good sign for the day to come.
