Neko Majin Z Manga Review

This is the story of a Neko Majin whom goes by the name of Z, who wants to buy a drink of cola. When some aliens arrive on his planet, he mistakes them for tourists and decides to try and scam them.

He and his friend use a variety of stupid tricks to try and get the money of these people before Z foolishly fondles a Super Saiyan’s wife’s breast. This results in the Neko Majin fighting with the fat Super Saiyan in an epic battle, which includes Z turning into a Super Neko Majin. I won’t elaborate any further so I don’t ruin the story, but there are some hilarious outcomes.

The artwork in this manga is fairly basic, lacking any sort of real depth and detail, although it suits the story perfectly. The characters are innovative and are drawn to suit their personalities, such as the greedy, arrogant, and fat Super Saiyan, and the young, seemingly careless boy. This is a neat touch to the drawing, with it maintaining all the trademark Toriyama additions, such as cool fighting drawings, and impressive attacks. All in all though, the artwork could be more detailed and include more features, but unfortunately it just wouldn’t suit the story, and ruin Toriyama’s style.

Due to the fact that Neko Majin Z is a one-shot, its story is basic and pretty silly. There are many humorous touches to it, such as the NekoMeHameHa, and the inclusion of a Super Saiyan. The way it poked fun at Dragonball was also highly noticeable, with similar clothes, and characters look vaguely familiar. Overall though, the story wasn’t so much interesting as it was funny, and is great fun for anyone who isn’t looking for a serious manga.

This was highly anticipated and its release was well promoted, and incredibly is lived up to expectations. The constant references to Dragonball/Z were consistently funny, and the inclusion of some subtle touches such as the aforementioned KameHameHa rip-off. I thoroughly enjoyed this masterpiece, as it bought back the good old Toriyama style of humor. This is a great short manga that is recommended to everyone who can get hold of it. I’d give this an A- overall, meaning it has a few small hiccups, but nothing too noticeable.
