DBZ
Movie 5: Best of Strongest vs. Strongest
Movie
5 is another great DBZ film, one of the best in fact, which involves
the evil Kula, and the valiant Son Goku, in an awesome fight of epic
proportions for the sake of the Earth. It has an original plot, great
fight scenes, and of course, the usual, fantastic characters.
SOUND:
7/10 (Above Average): The
music in this film is barely noticeable, because it blends in so well.
It seemed to fit in perfectly with all of the scenes that it
accompanied, and provided high levels of enjoyment for all. It wasn't
the most incredible music that I have ever heard, but it is not
abysmal either. I quite enjoyed it, although it could have been made
better. It is the regular, average music that we have come to expect
from DBZ films. Another factor in the film are the characters voices,
and the attack sounds. As usual, they sound absolutely brilliant,
although I would have though Kula's voice wouldn't have been so deep,
but rather a bit more pompous, kind of like King Colds. The sounds
some of the best in any DBZ movie, although that isn't saying all that
much.
CHARACTERS:
8/10 (Good): Kula
is a powerful foe, with an awesome appearance, a dominant family, and
a cunning personality. His mission is revenge, as is so often the way
with enemies in DBZ films. He provides high levels of enjoyment, with
his intelligent approach to things which is uncharacteristic with most
villains, and his power is truly incredible. He makes intriguing
taunts and insults, and fights well.
Kula's
henchman are quite possibly some of the best in any film, all of which
are powerful, cunning opponents, yet aren't quite strong enough to
defeat some of the better fighters like Goku and Piccolo. They provide
enjoyable coverage though, with just the right tint of evil to them.
The
heroes are as great as ever, with Goku's Super Saiyan transformation
looking brilliant, putting a beaming smile upon your face, and the
feeling of victory unto you.
FIGHT
SCENES: 8/10 (Good): An
important factor to any DBZ film, and it is executed extremely well in
this case. All the fights are interesting, exciting, and manage to
maintain a high enjoyment level throughout. It starts off with some
fun, yet fairly weak fights between the lesser members of the cast -
Kula's henchmen and Piccolo - and theen it goes on to a suspense
filled fight with the people baring awesome power - Kula and Goku.
These two fight valiantly, with Kula pulling out some intelligent
moves, and cool attacks, and Goku battling heroically as usual, not
giving up, even when times are looking bad. The power increase gained
when Kula transformed, and Goku went SSJ were enough to make anyone
smile, as the tempo was kicked up a notch, and it all became faster
paced. The final struggle with Goku and Kula was incredible, as they
had an energy beam fight, Goku had his KameHameHa, and Kula had his
death ball, in a grudging fight to see who was stronger.
THE
START: 6/10 (Average): The
premise of this isn't too bad, but the fact that it has been done
before detracts from the viewing pleasure. The bad guys sat around,
discussing what evil things they could do next, when Kula decides that
he will avenge his brothers death, and kill Son Goku. Speaking of the
Saiyan, the film then went on to him preparing for a camping trip. Not
the worlds most exciting stuff, but it manages to lead to the scene
which made a great battleground, so it can be forgiven.
PLOT:
8/10 (Good): It
may have been simple, but it was good none-the-less. Bad guys brother
died by the hands of a Super Saiyan, bad guy interested to meet Super
Saiyan to see its power, bad guy decides on vengeance as the main
reason for visiting the Super Saiyan, bad guy terrorizes everyone, bad
guy fights good guy, good guy turns Super Saiyan, bad guy gets killed.
It worked nicely, and providing a gripping story, and enjoyable plot
advances. The fact that Piccolo took out all the henchmen, then was
defeated by Kula in a second prove the guys power, but then Goku
showed his incredible strength, somehow become even more powerful when
he really needed to. This may have been used a few times before, but
not in the same context. It was based on a textbook plot, but with
some minor improvements which made all the difference.
THE
ENDING: 7/10 (Above average): Kula
was defeated in awesome style, as Goku blasted him into the sun with
an incredible KameHameHa, superb power, as he valiantly, and
gloriously stood his ground, watching as his beam finished the job,
allowing for the Earth to be saved once more. It was a bit of a
textbook ending, and there wasn't any information on what happened to
Piccolo who was badly injured earlier in the film (It was later
revealed that he survived in movie ). I enjoyed it, but it was a
little bland, with only one event happening, and that was one that
always happens.
OVERALL:
8/10 (Good): A
great film, enjoyable quirks such as a great villain, the first film
to see a Super Saiyan, and superb attacks made it an enjoyable watch.
The simple plot worked well, and provided plenty of entertainment. The
ending was what I had come to expect from watching the film, in superb
style, and an impressive all out firefight. Another great point to the
film was the sound, that was unusually good. Unfortunately, the
version I saw had low quality music and sound, but that didn't matter,
as it was because of the dub, not the creators.
This
is easily one of the best DBZ films, providing a gripping story
throughout.
