Dragonball
Episode 90: Oh My! It's the Dodonpa!
(original, Japanese episode)
Bulma, Oolong, Puar, Lunch (good form), and
Umigame (the turtle!) are sitting at an outside cafe. Bulma asks if they
should buy lunch for Goku and the others, and Lunch agrees. Oolong says it
should make them happy. They call over a food vendor, but he suddenly
rushes off in fear. Bulma, "How rude! We have money!"
Oolong, "And Lunch hasn't transformed." They call over an ice
cream vendor, but he also rushes off. They wonder what is going on.
TsuruSennin steps in, "They're scared." Bulma asks what there is
to be scared of. TsuruSennin points out a man sitting at a nearby table,
covered in bandages. He explains that the man was nearly burnt to death in
the Preliminary Rounds. Lunch asks who did it, and TsuruSennin just
chuckles. They hear an announcement that Match #3, Kuririn VS Chaozu, is
ready to begin. Bulma hopes Kuririn will avenge Yamcha, and she bashes
TsuruSennin over the head.
Meanwhile, at Papaya Hospital, Yamcha is asleep,
and Puar wakes him up. Yamcha says that Kuririn's fight against Chaozu
should be starting pretty soon. Puar, "Kuririn will win!" Yamcha,
"I hope so. Those students of TsuruSennin shouldn't be
under-estimated. Go cheer Kuririn on, and then come back and tell me how
it went." Puar is reluctant, but Yamcha tells her not to worry about
him. Puar floats away, and Yamcha hopes Kuririn wins.
Back at the tournament, Kuririn faces Chaozu in
the ring. From the crowd, Bulma and Lunch wish him luck. The
announcer tells the crowd that Kuririn is a disciple of KameSennin, and Chaozu
is a disciple of TsuruSennin. TsuruSennin, "How dare he mention me
with that baldy!" Bulma, "You're bald under that cap,
too!" Oolong arrives, and gives Bulma some pom poms. Bulma asks
what they are for, and Oolong tells her to kick her legs as high as she can and
do a cheer for Kuririn (that pervert). He acts out the cheer for her to
do, and the angry Bulma just punches him in the face. The ditzy Lunch
claps, telling Oolong that was very good. Goku wishes Kuririn luck.
Kuririn can't tell what Chaozu is thinking, and wishes he could have seen how
Chaozu fought in the Preliminary Rounds. The match begins, and Kuririn
tells Chaozu to attack. Nothing happens, and Kuririn asks why he isn't
attacking. Chaozu suddenly starts levitating, and shoots forward at
Kuririn. He kicks Kuririn away. Chaozu floats up under the hurtling
Kuririn, and head butts him into the sky. Kuririn dives back down at
Chaozu, but Chaozu leaps away. Kuririn lands, and lunges back at Chaozu.
Chaozu floats into the air, followed by Kuririn, and they go into one of those
flurries of fast paced fighting. Kuririn can't float, so he drops back to
the ground angrily, while Chaozu stays in the air. Bulma comments on how
Chaozu can float. Chaozu returns to the ground, so Kuririn attacks.
Before reaching Chaozu, Kuririn disappears. Tenshinhan, "Chaozu, to
the left!" Chaozu tries to remember which direction is left (by
determining which hand he holds a tea cup), but it is too late, and Kuririn
punches him away. Kuririn unleashes a barrage of punches, which Chaozu
blocks. Goku and Lunch cheer Kuririn on as he slowly drives Chaozu toward
the edge of the ring. TsuruSennin just chuckles. Just as Chaozu
reaches the edge, he floats back into the air. Kuririn, "I can't hit
him properly because he keeps floating." Jackie Chun, "That is
the Crane School's Levitation Technique." Tenshinhan calls him a 'knowledgable
geezer.' Goku angrily tells Tenshinhan not to call Jackie a geezer.
Kuririn thinks that if he tries attacking Chaozu now, Chaozu will simply move
out of the way and cause him to fall out of bounds. Oolong, "Maybe if
a bird comes along and pecks him, he'll deflate!" Bulma, "He's
not a balloon!". Chaozu decides to attack, and charges up some energy
in his finger. He suddenly fires a Dodompa blast at Kuririn, which he
promptly dodges. The bandaged man from the beginning of the episode
faints. TsuruSennin, "He's gonna end up just like that
man..." Bulma and the others are shocked, and TsuruSennin tells them
that it was Chaozu that nearly killed the man. Oolong, "But he looks
too cute to do anything so dangerous!" Chaozu charges up, and fires
another Dodompa, but Kuririn is still able to dodge. Kuririn dodges a few
more Dodompas, while Goku recognizes the technique, and has a flashback of when
Tao Pai Pai blasted him with a Dodompa on their first encounter. Goku,
"That's the same attack Tao Pai Pai used!" Kuririn dodges
another Dodompa. Tenshinhan steps in, asking what he just said. Goku,
"I said that Dodompa is the name of an attack a killer called Tao Pai Pai
used against me, but I managed to kill him." Tenshinhan is shocked,
and tells Goku not to lie. Goku angrily says he isn't lying, and
Tenshinhan becomes saddened. He asks when this happened, and Goku replies
that it was about 3 years ago. There is a flashback of Goku's 2nd fight
against Tao Pai Pai, when he defeated him (I'm sure you've all seen this
flashback before, in the Android Saga. It's the most frequent flashback in
the series). Kuririn dodges yet another Dodompa. Tenshinhan can't
believe that the unbeatable Tao Pai Pai was beaten by that little kid, and walks
away in anger. Jackie Chun steps in and asks if Goku really killed Tao Pai
Pai. Goku, "Yeah, but he was really tough!" Jackie is
shocked, and tells Goku that Tao Pai Pai is actually TsuruSennin's younger
brother. Goku, "Really? They don't look anything alike! But
then again, KameSennin and Uranai Baba don't either." Kuririn dodges
several more Dodompas, and Lunch yells for Chaozu to stop this.
TsuruSennin says that if Kuririn doesn't want to die, he had better run out of
bounds and give up. Bulma, "Kuririn, please give up!"
Oolong, "No way, Kuririn has his pride!" Lunch, "But he
might die!" Kuririn dodges even more Dodompas. The force of the
explosions causes Lunch to sneeze and (you guessed it) turn evil. Evil
Lunch, "Kuririn! If you lose, I'm gonna kill you!" Kuririn rolls
along the ring, dodging countless Dodompas. He reaches the edge of the
ring, and simply leaps back into the center before the final blast can
hit. Goku says that was pretty good. Kuririn looks around, trying to think
of a good strategy. He gets an idea, and disappears again. Chaozu
looks around frantically, not knowing where Kuririn is. Kuririn is leaping
all around the ring at high speed. He appears and catapults off a wall at
Chaozu, kicking him back toward the ring. He dives toward the falling
Chaozu. Chaozu suddenly floats out of the way and back into the air, and
Kuririn lands disappointedly. Tenshinhan moves through the crowd, telling
TsuruSennin that there is something he must tell him. Bulma wonders if
something happened. Kuririn dodges yet another Dodompa, and wishes he
could use KameHameHa. "Wait! If Yamcha can do, then so can
I!" He tries the stance, and manages to shoot a little puff a smoke,
but he's on the right track. Kuririn leaps away from another Dodompa
blast. TsuruSennin is shocked to hear that his brother was killed by a
disciple of KameSennin. Tenshinhan, "I'm sure he must have made some
kind of mistake." TsuruSennin, "Yes, and it did seem strange
that Tao Pai Pai hasn't visited for 3 years. Chaozu, finish off your
opponent, NOW!" Bulma, "I thought the strategy was to force
Kuririn out of bounds!" TsuruSennin, "The circumstances have
changed." Oolong says old men can be so stupid, and TsuruSennin
threatens to roast him. Jackie tells Goku that this is bad, because now
TsuruSennin wants all of the disciples of the Turtle School dead. Goku
asks if this is because he killed TsuruSennin's brother. Chaozu charges
up, deciding to go all out with this next Dodompa. Kuririn starts charging
up a KameHameHa. Goku is impressed. Jackie Chun, "Kuririn! You
just learned the KameHameHa! It won't stand a chance against the Dodompa!
Stop!" Will Kuririn survive?
