Dragonball Z Character Diaries: The
Memoirs of Son Goku
Dear
diary, tomorrow I go to see Krillen, Roshi, and the others. I’m
really looking forward to meeting up with the guys once more, it
should be a memorable occasion. I’ll be able to introduce them to my
son – Gohan. They don’t even know he exists, boy, will they be
excited when they see him! I’d best get some sleep now, big day
ahead of me tomorrow!
---------
Dear diary, this is
going to be the last entry that I make in a while. I’m writing to
you from the heavens, on a long, winding, narrow road called Snake
Way. I have my pen and paper to keep me company, and that’s all.
What a wild day I had today though.
I turned up at the
reunion, and met up with all my old buddies. I introduced Gohan to
them, and although he was a little shy, everyone seemed to like him,
and he liked them too. That was the good part. The bad part was
horrific.
Everything was going
smoothly until a guy named Raditz appeared on the scene. He was about
twice my size, with a huge, muscular physique, and long, thick hair.
Another notable feature on him was his tail. It was fair long, and
hairy, swishing to and fro in the wind. In fact, it was almost an
exact replica of the one I used to have. Anyway, back onto Raditz. He
wore armour, which covered his chest, his shoulders, and his groin.
Another thing that I took note of was a small device over his eye. I
didn’t know what it was then, but I sure did live to regret not
figuring it out!
This Raditz guy
landed on Roshi’s island, and decided that he’d crash the party.
He terrorized everyone for a short time, then demanded that I join
him, and go back to being a true Saiyan. Naturally, I didn’t have a
clue what he was talking about, but it soon came clear. He told me all
about my heritage, and how I was one of only 4 Saiyans who still live
on in an almost extinct fighting race. That would explain my superior
battle power, and my tail. I am an alien from outer space…it’s not
every day that you hear that. Another thing that I was told was that
Raditz is my long lost brother. It makes sense, as he does bare a
slight resemblance to me. The final thing he told me about myself is
that apparently I should have destroyed the planet Earth by now,
because of my Saiyan blood. That would explain my rash behaviour when
I was a small child. A lot of my childhood was accounted for by my
brother, and it’s a damn shame he turned out to be evil.
My brother told me
that I was a complete idiot for loosing my ‘programming’. I
remember bumping my head when I was very small, which must be the
reason that I didn’t turn out as vile, despicable, and loathsome to
life as he did. Anyway, as I was saying, Raditz arrived, and he
demanded that I kill a whole bunch of people (I can’t remember the
figure, dying takes a lot out of you, memories and all) but I refused
outright. I would never take innocent lives for the sake of joining a
team of fighters that murder defenseless people. For this, I was hit
in the gut by one of my brothers huge knees. I suppose our
relationship was going as well as any other brothers around. The
impact of the attack was incredible though. I immediately fell to the
floor, gasping for breath. I’d never been hit by anything as
powerful as that, and it didn’t even seem his hardest. He left me on
the floor, in agony, then flew off, grabbing Gohan on the way, and
threatening to kill my son, if I didn't kill all the people he
demanded that I kill. I was left to ponder the decision, but I knew
that there was no competition. I was going to fight my brother, and
save my son!
Luckily, and handily,
Gohan had a nifty Dragonball on his hat, and with the dragon radar, we
could easily locate him. Another extremely lucky thing was that Raditz
didn't know about the powers of the Dragonballs, so didn't suspect a
thing when he saw the golden ball on Gohan's head.
I called for Nimbus,
jumped on, and was about to leave, dragon radar in hand, when Piccolo
arrived. I expected to have to fight him, and I really didn't feel
like talking to him at that point in time, but I heard him out all the
same. He told me that he actually wanted to side with me. I was
worried that he might attack me from behind at first, but I could
sense that he was trust worthy...for now anyway. We quickly flew off,
in search of Gohan and Raditz. My reasons were completely different to
Piccolo's. I wanted my son back, he seemed to want to kill this guy,
so that he could take over the world. All the same though, he knew as
well as I did that we'd need each others help for the fight that would
soon commence.
We arrived at the
scene of my son, and found out that he was locked in his pod. The
device over Raditz' eye seemed to detect power levels, and he soon
found us. We demanded he hand over my son and leave, but when he
refused, we were forced to fight.
The battle commenced,
and he easily dodged all of mine and Piccolo's attacks, acting as
though we were mere children. We fought hard though, and in the end,
managed to gain a small vantage. We took off our weighted clothes
(Piccolo wears them as well, that's something that I didn't know!). I
managed to find a bit of space, and launch my most lethal attack - the
KameHameHa. At first my brother ran, but then he decided to
demonstrate his awesome power, and somehow blocked my attack. As if
that wasn't enough, he later dodged Piccolo's most powerful attack - a
super fast, powerful, spiraling beam. It cut his shoulder though, and
pierced his armour. I knew that if Piccolo could hit with this attack,
then we may be able to finish this guy.
The fight dragged on,
and Piccolo decided to have another try at his beam. Raditz saw this,
and attempted to attack him, but I was too skillful. I grabbed his
tail, and squeezed it hard, remembering how painful it was for me when
people did that. Raditz fell immediately to the floor, begging for
mercy. Piccolo was aiming to make his beam more powerful this time,
which meant that I'd have to hold Raditz at bay for a while. I
squeezed hard, and kept him on the floor. It looked as though we were
going to win.
Before Piccolo
finished charging up his beam, Raditz began begging for mercy once
more, but sounded really sincere this time. He promised to leave
immediately, and never hurt another soul, and I assumed that he could
be trusted, what with him being my brother and all. I was sadly wrong,
he got up, and attacked me without even thinking about it. I had to
actually engage in combat with him now, whilst Piccolo finished with
his attack. He seemed to be charging it up for an eternity! I got up
off my feet, and began to fight my own flesh and blood, my brother
whom I just discovered I had a few minutes before.
He beat me around the
floor, then stepped on my ribs, almost breaking them. I screamed out
in pain, and I was saved by the last person I expected to help -
Gohan! He burst out of Raditz pod, and headbutted him right in the
ribs, cracking his armour. I think he broke Raditz' ribs right in two,
because I heard something snap upon contact. Raditz got off me, and I
quickly capitalized.
When Raditz hit
Gohan, knocking him out, I was filled with a deep rage. I couldn't
believe what he'd done. That arrogant fool thought that I was beaten
though, so he walked onto Piccolo, who was helpless to defend himself
until his attack was ready. I could see by the look in his eyes that
he needed a tiny bit more time, so I sprang to my feet, and grabbed
that bastard Raditz in a full nelson. He struggled to escape, and I
tightened the grip. The blow Gohan gave him earlier must have affected
his mobility a lot. He couldn't escape, but I couldn't hold on much
longer. Piccolo announced his beam was ready. It was time, I knew what
I had to do.
I clamped onto my
brother, as he began begging for mercy. I wasn't naive enough to fall
for the same trick twice though, and I held on. I was going to
sacrifice myself to save the world, it scared me, but I knew it had to
be done. Shutting my eyes, I got ready for the inevitable.
Piccolo held out his
forefingers, with small sparks igniting. He lunged his arm forward,
and from out of his middle finger and index finger came that fast,
spiral beam that I mentioned earlier. It was incredible. It split
right through Raditz, but then consequentially went through me. We
both fell to the floor in agony. I'll tell you, it's one of the most
painful things in existence, so try to avoid having a hole blown
through your stomach. I slowly faded away, but before I did, Piccolo
laughed at Raditz, and told him that I could be wished back with
Dragonballs. This was uncharacteristically foolish of him, as Raditz
laughed back, saying that his scouter was a transmission device as
well, and that two Saiyans, both a lot stronger than him, would soon
be at Earth to use the 'Balls.
I disappeared, and
next thing I knew, I was at the Earth's check-in station with Kami. He
told me to seek a guy called King Kai, but first I had to cross Snake
Way. It would be about a year until the arrival of the Saiyans, surely
the road can't be that long. It is though. I still can't even see any
sign of it ending at all. I have to be careful not to run the wrong
way and end up back at the start, because that really would be tragic,
and a waste of time.
King Enma must have
beaten Raditz, which is incredible, as it is said that King Kai is far
stronger. That would mean that I could grow to be twice as strong as
my brother! I haven't seen Raditz, so I can only assume that he's gone
straight directly to hell, where he belongs.
Being dead isn't all
that bad though, I'll probably meet lots of interesting people, and it
should be a once in a life time experience (Or at least hopefully
anyway). Well, I gotta get back to running.
Damn this road is
tedious!
Until next time
diary!
---------
Hey,
long time no write. In fact, it's been close to a year since I said
anything to you. Well, I bet you've been wondering where I've been all
this time aren't you? Well guess what? I'm going to tell you! Ok,
here's the deal, I must never trust ogres from hell. They tricked me,
and put about 3 months on my journey. Bastards. If I was a vengeful,
resentful soul, I'd probably seek revenge, but as I'm not, they can
walk free. But I'd rather not talk of that deceitfulness, put it
behind me in the past. I have far more important things to talk about!
I finally finished running Snake Way! You may not understand how far
it was, but it took me close to a year, and I had a few obstacles on
the way, such as a beautiful princess that looked like a really nice
person. She turned out to be a giant, evil, fire-breathing snake
though. Who'd have thought it! Ah well, that's not the big important
thing either. Arriving at Snake Way was a big accomplishment and all,
but it wasn't the biggest thing. I met the great martial arts master
King Kai! He trained me in many forms of fighting, and whilst his food
wasn't too good, his teaching techniques were odd, and he lived with a
monkey and a cricket, he made me far more powerful than I could have
ever dreamed of being.
This guy
is incredible. His jokes are even worse than Mr. Satan's bravery (He's
a promising young fighter, who's scared of anyone stronger than him!)
I had to tell of a joke of my own to get him to train me, came up with
a terrible one, but for some reason he laughed. I guess it was my
incredible delivery. I'm a surprisingly funny guy you know. Anyway,
the gravity on his planet was weird! I was sucked right down to the
floor immediately! Breathing was hard enough with such thin air, but
being smacked down to the floor made it even worse! I got used to it
eventually, and caught King Kai's absurdly fast monkey. He was quick,
but I turned out to be quicker!
After
Bubbles the monkey, came Gregory the cricket. I had to hit him with a
gigantic hammer. It wasn't easy, believe me. Took me ages! I got him
in the end though, with a cunning plan, but that's really not too
important, got to prioritize right now, the guys need me! Sorry diary,
but I have to go soon, I need to train.
Kai
taught me an attack called the 'Spirit Bomb', which is really
powerful. I'm not sure if I'll use it too much in the future though,
because it can take a while to charge up. Another attack which I
learnt was the Kai-o-ken. This increases your awareness, strength,
etc, by a great deal. I still haven't perfected it though, and if the
Saiyans are as strong as King Kai says they are, I'm going to need to
be able to bring up that attack a lot! One minor drawback with
it is that my body can explode if I push too hard. Kai said not to go
above Kai-o-ken times 2. I'll defy logic, and probably do it anyway.
Guess it'll be a bummer if I suddenly explode. Never mind, afterlife
goes on. Heh, just a little dead joke of mine. Adios diary.
---------
Well, I
finally found out how tough those Saiyans were, and man, do I regret
not stretching before the fight! My whole body was put through hell
and back! I'm having to recite this to the nurse so that she can write
it, as I am totally unable to do anything at the moment. Life goes on
though, albeit somewhat painfully. Anyway, I'm going to have to get
you to remind me to batter King Kai, because he sent me off a day
late, meaning some of my friends died when I was on my way. Who am I
kidding, I can't blame him, it's not his fault he isn't completely
there in the head. Piccolo, Tien, Yamcha, and Chao-zu were all dead
before I even arrived on the scene, all due to the one Saiyan, a big
muscular guy named Nappa. As you could probably guess, I survived the
fight, but I bet you want to know how it went down, right diary? Oh
yeah, you can't talk, never mind, I'll just get this written in for
future reference, should I ever want to boast about my epic victory.
I
arrived just in time to save my dear son, Gohan. Nappa was ready to
destroy him, but I hastily used Nimbus to thrust him out of the way.
Thank goodness I arrived when I did. Krillen had managed to fight on
as well, surviving against the odds. I fed them both sensu beans, and
turned to face the big guy. Sensing his power, I could easily tell
that he would be a worthy opponent, but after my training with King
Kai, I knew I could take this bully out.
After
toying with him a while, I realized that Nappa wasn't as powerful as I
first expected. Well, either that or I was even stronger than
anticipated. Anyway, I fought him for a while before the other Saiyan,
a short one called Vegeta, stepped in and told him that to continue
fighting me would be futile. I was obviously a lot stronger than him,
and apparently he was making Vegeta look bad. I decided that I
couldn't be lenient with these guys, I'd have to kill them, otherwise
there would be no Earth left. Nappa went off in search of
"fun", targeting my son and best friend.
I
couldn't stand and watch this huge bully attack my loved ones, so I
chased after him, as fast as I could, but it was too slow. Even with
my top speed it was excruciatingly obvious that I wouldn't be able to
reach them in time. There was only one thing left to do - The
Kai-o-ken attack. The amount of fear running through my body was
incredible, but the adrenaline quickly rid me of any doubt. I sped
towards Nappa, and took him out with an array of awesome attacks. It
was incredible! The power going through my body was like none that I
have ever felt before. It was at that moment that I knew I could win.
My body felt so strong, that I could have taken anyone on, including
Vegeta. I tossed his partner to his feet, and in disgust, the
seemingly more powerful Saiyan threw Nappa into the air, and
mercilessly killed him, just because he lost the battle. It was
pathetic, and just a complete mockery of all that is good. I couldn't
believe this guy! What a monster! Killing his friend like that, how
could anyone do such a thing? It was pure heartless. This guy had to
be taught a lesson, and I was the ideal person to teach it.
Knowing
roughly how strong this guy was, I ordered that Gohan and Krillen go,
because they'd only get in the way, and if something happened to them,
I'd never forgive myself. We moved to a more suitable battleground,
and the fight began. The challenge was actually pretty sweet, and I
almost enjoyed battling with this supreme warrior. It went back and
forth with neither of us able to gain much of an advantage, until I
hit him high into the air with a massive KameHameHa. It was totally
awesome! The most powerful beam ever, surely! I intercepted his beam,
and pushed it back with my own, doing a quadruple Kai-o-ken to power
myself up, then putting in one final surge of energy. I thought it was
over at that moment, but I soon sensed his presence once more, and
knew that I'd have to get back to fighting him soon. The pain that I
was going through is indescribable. My body was swelling up, and ready
to explode, every single one of my muscles had been torn or pulled. It
was almost as though someone had taken my body, and put it through all
the stages of a slaughter house! How I remained standing was beyond
me!
Taking a
short rest, I dreaded the return of Vegeta, knowing that he'd be as
mad as a hornet. Then, another crazy twist to the tale came, as out of
the shadows came Yajirobe! I never expected to see him anywhere near a
fight! He congratulated me, and was all for staying around for a while
until he realized that Vegeta would be back. After finding out this
piece of information, he fled, leaving me all alone once more. Can't
say I blame him though, it was a tough task, and he didn't have
anywhere near the strength to compete with someone of Vegeta's level.
The
fight resumed as Vegeta landed, and tossed a shining ball of light
into the air. I had defeated him, and he knew that, but with
outstanding courage, he wanted to fight on. Little did I know the
consequences of what he was doing with the glowing orb that he threw
into the air. It floated around for a while, allowing the Saiyan to
look up at it. Suddenly, a strange transformation took place. He began
growing shreds of hair everywhere, and grew to a humongous size. It
was an incredible thing to witness. I wondered what was happening as
his face changed shape into that of a primitive ape. The sheer scale
of him was outstanding. He was at least 10 times my height, and about
10 times my width to boot! His power level had increased by an
enormous amount too, making him far stronger than I could ever hope to
be. I took a deep breath, tried to relax my muscles, then prepared for
battle.
I was
almost immediately destroyed. The only thing that I managed to do was
damage his eye, and gather some energy for a spirit bomb. I couldn't
throw it though, because he got an attack in before I could, sending
masses of pain through my body, and knocking me to the ground. It
seemed that all the training, and fighting that I had done was all in
vain. Vegeta stood on top of me, breaking both of my legs, crushing
them as if I was a mere ant. My screams pierced the shrill air, as the
pain was more agonizing than anything that I had ever felt before. Not
satisfied with standing on me, he picked me up and began crushing me.
The pain increased once more, as I couldn't breath, and felt each one
of my ribs simultaneously snap.
The next
few scenes are very fuzzy, as I was only semi-conscious during them,
but I know that Krillen and Gohan came to my aid, and that Vegeta's
tail somehow managed to get chopped off, making him shrink back down
to normal size. He was badly hurt, but still too powerful for my two
good buddies. Moving would have been impossible for me, so I could
only usher words of encouragement, and advice to Krill and Gohan as
they fought valiantly.
The next
thing I knew, Vegeta and Gohan were fighting hand to hand, in their
normal forms. Vegeta looked badly fatigued and hurt, and Krillen was
on the floor near me. I gave him the energy I gathered for my spirit
bomb, and he threw it for me. I couldn't see what happened next, but I
know Vegeta was pummeled to the ground, and was hurting direly. He
still got up though, and delivered more punishment to everyone, as I
could only sense the powers slowly fade, and hope for a miracle.
I
managed to remember Gohan's tail, and the fact that Vegeta had one
too, meaning it must have been that that allowed him to transform. I
managed to convince Gohan to look at the fake moon, but after that, I
couldn't work out what happened. Somehow Gohan had destroyed Vegeta,
obviously having gone into that ape thing, but I could sense his power
go back to normal. I think Vegeta must have taken his tail off, but as
Gohan shrank to his normal size, Vegeta's power almost totally
disappeared. I assume that Gohan must have delivered one final, fatal
blow, or maybe even landed on the Saiyan as he fell.
A
few more broken moments, and then I realized that Krillen had
Yajirobe's sword, and was ready to finish off our opponent, when I
decided that we should spare him. He was a great fighter, and could
become an even greater ally, so why kill him? Reluctantly, Krillen
spared his life, and Vegeta escaped.
We were
all picked up by Roshi soon after, and each one of us are now side by
side in hospital beds. Doctors estimate that it will take me a long
time to recover, if I ever do, so I assume I could get better in about
a year. Krillen and Gohan are now sleeping, so I don't want to wake
them, meaning I'll have to end this entry now. I'll speak to them when
they wake up for the first time, I'm looking forward to it.
See ya
Diary, I'll write again when I'm fully recovered!
