Are You Single? Find Love

Humble Beginnings

Part One

This section explains how each and every character from DB/Z/GT was introduced into the series. It can serve as a great reference guide on any character's origin, and might fill in some things you did not know. In addition, the episode number is included (maybe I'll update it with manga chapters someday as well)

1. Goku - First seen as a young 12 year old boy, running a log down a hill. He waves to a few of his monkey friends (no, it's not foreshadowing), and divides the log into firewood by his house. He then goes off to catch some fish, just like by any other day. While dragging his catch back towards home, he is nearly run over by a strange monster, which he attacks, only to find a young, blue-haired woman inside... (DB:1)

2. Bulma - On summer break from her high school in West City, she is first seen driving through a mountainside, looking for strange orange-starred balls that can grant any wish. She already has two, and is searching for her third, when she runs into a small boy carrying a fish. The boy has one of these 'dragonballs' although he seems to think it is his grandfather. Bulma convinces him to help her search the world for the remaining four. (DB:1)

3. Emperor Pilaf - This annoying blue guy is first seen waking up a hallway in some dark skeleton-filled place where he finds the one-star dragonball. He is also accompanied by his two assistants. (DB:1)

4. Mai - Right-hand woman to Pilaf, she is also first appears in the above scene. Later she is sent with Shou to skull valley, where another ball is believed to be held. (DB:1)

5. Shou - Although frightened to death by the skeleton hallway, and nearly every one of Pilaf's missions, he tags along still, and accompanies Mai to skull valley. (DB:1)

6. Turtle - One morning, Goku is out exercising, smashing large rocks. However, the second rock he tries to smash is not a rock, but rather a turtle. Goku believes that it is really Bulma, who turned into a turtle because she did her hair so slow. Turtle asks Bulma for some seawater, then Goku offers to carry him back to the sea. (DB:2)

7. Master Roshi - Turtle, when finally dropped off at the sea, goes to fetch his master. When he returns with an old man, the geezer, Roshi, offers Goku a reward, the magic carpet. Turtle reminds him that the carpet is at the cleaners, so Goku accepts a flying nimbus cloud (Kinto'un) instead. Bulma asks Roshi if she can have the three-star bal around his neck, but the old man demands a little favor in return.... (DB:3)

8. Oolong - Bulma and Goku arrive at another small town, where they find an old woman with the seven star ball. However, she demands a favor in return for the bal - Goku and Bulma must liberate them from the shape-shifting monster that terrorizes their village, and free the 3 little girls held prisoner. After Goku confronts him, he realizes that the monster is actually very weak, and discovers he is really a small pig in uniform. After getting the ball, Bulma drags the pig, Oolong, along on their adventure, thinking his abilities may come in handy. (DB:4)

9. Pu'ar - Bulma, Goku, and Oolong venture through the desert, on the way to the six star ball. However, they are being watched by a small cat, Puar, who reports to his master that there are new victims around. (DB:5)

10. Yamcha - After hearing from Puar that there are new victims around, Yamcha and Puar head out to 'greet' their guests. While Bulma slept, Goku and Oolong were offered a choice - hand over their goods or die. Goku chooses to fight Yamcha, and the fight looks like a draw, but only because Goku is hungry. Yamcha is forced to retreat when he is confronted by his only fear - a girl! (DB:5)

11. Chi-Chi - After losing to Goku in their second fight, Yamcha and Puar follow Bulma, Goku, and Oolong from a distance. Suddenly, they are attacked by this crazy little girl, Chi-Chi, who is throwing her headpiece-blade at anyone she deems threatening.  Yamcha proceeds to knock the girl out, and continues following Goku and co. (DB:7)

12. Ox king - Goku and co. arrive at the location of the six-star ball, which just happens to be the burning mountain palace of the evil Ox King. Goku goes a little too close to the palace, and he is forced to fight the giant. However, After discovering that Goku is in possession of Kinto'un, the Ox King lets Goku go on the condition he finds Chi-Chi, who went to search for the Bansho fan.  (DB:7)

13. Boss Rabbit - Goku and co. pass through a town on the way to the one-star ball.... a town ruled by boss rabbit and his men. This guy has the power to change anyone to a carrot with a single touch. After transforming Bulma, Goku fights him with the nyoi-bo and liberates the village. (DB:9)

14. Shen-long - Pilaf steals the balls from Goku and co., and proceeds to call upon the Earth's dragon, Shen-long. Pilaf is about is wish for world domination, but Oolong, who escaped through a hole in the wall, jumped in front and wished for panties instead, saving the world. (DB:11)

15. Krillen - Goku returns to Roshi's island to receive Martial Arts training. But before they begin, a new kid arrives on the island, asking the turtle hermit if he can have training as well. At first Roshi says no, but after he is given a few dirty magazines as a gift, he changes his mind. (krillen was previously seen earlier in the episode running through the desert, near Bulma, Yamcha, Oolong, and Puar) (DB:14)

16. Launch - In a western-style bar somewhere, some men are discussing a criminal on a wanted sign, a blonde-haired girl who has a huge reward. Suddenly an innocent looking blue-haired girl walks into the bar. She sits down and is offered a drink by a tough-looking guy, who is hitting on her. But then Launch sneezes, her hair turns blonde, and all hell breaks loose. later, she stops a train, and robs it, but is put on a chase by 2 police cars. After sneezing and returning to good-Launch, she is apprehended by the police. That is, until Goku and Krillen, who are looking for a date for Roshi, drop in and save her. (DB:15)

17.  Bacterian - At the 21st Worlds Martial Arts Tournament, Bulma is trying to get a sneak peek on the elimination round action by climbing on Oolong's shoulders to reach the window. However, when a huge, hairy, smelly guy pops up in front of the window, Bulma shrieks, collapsing Oolong. Later this smelly guy, Bacterian, becomes a finalist and faces Krillen (DB:20)

18. Nam - Right after the elimination round ends, Jackie Chun (Roshi in disguise) notices one of the finalists is way too serious. He reads the person's mind, finding out that he comes from a desert village desperately in need of water. Nam fights Ranfan in the first round.  (DB:21)

19. Announcer - The first time we see this guy is when he calls together the eight finalists, in order for them to draw pairings for the first round. He does his job well, except for the part where he cant pronounce Goku's name. (DB:21)

20. Giran - He draws a spot in the 4th match, against Goku. This large dinosaur spends most of the drawings bragging about his immense size and stregnth. He is later seen eating a huge plate of meat, which Goku decides to take half of.  (DB:21)

21. Ranfan - She draws into the 3rd match, versus Nam. Most of the time during pairings Ranfan stays quiet, while Jackie Chun tries flirting with her.  (DB:21)
