Tim's Rant #4: February 7, 2003

Life After Z

Well, well, well... it's been almost a year since I did one of these.  Last time it was about the best sites on the net as of April 2002.  Boy, things always change in this crazy world we call the "Web Community".  Sites returned, sites died, sites are in the making.  I myself have branched out more in the web community.  I used to be 100% loyal to this site.  People would always ask me to help them out and I would turn down the offer.  Things have changed now.  I am now working on KyleHebert.com and the returned Saiyanz-Rage.net, but strictly as a news poster for both sites.  At A-Kon this summer, I will be conducting interviews and being a roving reporter for Kyle Hebert's DVD he is producing for his site.  So if you fans of mine want to see me at work, you should get that DVD in the winter.

So what do I make of the web now that DBZ is coming to a close?  I honestly don't have a great opinion.  I am promising you that when Z is done, a lot of Z sites will close.  GGG planned on closing it's doors on that day, although that happened a little sooner than expected.  On the other hand, two of the best sites in the past came back recently, that being Daizenshuu-EX and SzR.  D-Ex shut down over a year ago and came back maybe a little too late.  Don't get me wrong though, I am very happy it made a return.  SzR is pretty much a great place to go to if you want any anime news, but lacks in content.  It's still one of the most respectable sites on the net.

What else has happened?  I guess in this past year one of my favorite sites got taken over and now I can't stand it.  I am talking about DBGT.com.  This site used to be run by fRaNk until Ruben decided he wanted to take back over the site.  In response, fRaNk opened up DBGTN.com and has made it one of the best sites out there.  DBGT.com has gone straight down the toilet and most of its staff just plug their own sites they work for.  DBGTN recently had some downtime after a hacking incident, but as of this writing it has returned to the net.  I have spoken to both Deano and fRaNk and they are really devoted to their work.

Now what's going on with Legacy these days... as you can see we still update all the time and post new content.  Mandrew is the MVP of the year for this site.  His Adventure History section is by far the biggest and best section we have.  The Switcher is attempting yet again to get those ever so popular music videos back up.  Now since I get so much backlash from you fans, let me explain the deal with why they are always down.  We can't host them on Legacy itself due to the amount of bandwidth they consume.  However, when we do get them hosted, we end up KILLING the host's server because the videos get leeched.  It also doesn't help that this site averages 15,000 unique hits a day, and a lot of them want the videos.  All I can ask you is to be patient and don't harass us about them.  Daniel Kurland is probably the best guy I have for news updates.  When he posts, its usually pretty big news for DBZ fans.  Kevin, well... there is a long story there that I won't get too in to.  For some reason, not even I can get a hold of him these days.  I was told not to change the layout because he personally likes the one we have, so that will never happen.  Sorry.  You all are stuck with the layout we have.  All the pop-ups?  Again, sorry, I have no control over that.

What will happen to Legacy when Z ends you may ask.  Well this site's domain has been purchased through next year, so I am guessing we aren't going anywhere.  This really is THE site for information and that will never change.  DBGT is coming this year so there is always new content.  I guess what I am trying to say is, time will tell.
