A-Kon XIII Mandrew's Review

The Second Day

I woke up at 9:00, had some breakfast, and then found out the dealer’s room opens at 10:00. So, I got dressed, went downstairs, and then saw the room open. I browsed around, just trying to find anything, and felt it was time to spend. I bought twelve DVDs in one spot, mostly Dragon Ball and the Lupin movie. But, I had to make haste! The second VA panel discussion was starting, and I needed to hurry. While trying to put some stuff away, Mr. Schemmel just happened to walk by me. It struck me hard at first, but when I looked back, it was actually he! I followed him around, until we finally got to the panel discussion, where I would wait for about ten minutes.

Voice Actors Panel #2

The men and women that joined us there was Hebert, McNeil, Schemmel, Olivas, Rial, and Smith. Sorry, don’t know some of the first names, so I won’t put any. We got to talk, until Mr. McNeil came in and disrupted everyone. We got to hear his story over again, but anything to see a great VA. We talked more and more, until someone asked for Mr. Schemmel to do the Kamehameha. He told them that he couldn’t, but Kyle, who was sitting next to him, was happy to fill in. He stood up and did his second Kamehameha at that convention (as far to my knowledge), to which more camera flashes came, and more applause sounded. After taking pictures and having some good laughs, the panel was over, and it was time to buy again.

Surprises

I bought two more Dragon Ball Z DVDs and went out to buy Excel Saga Vol. One. I walked around, until I saw Mr. Sabat just walk by. Then, Mr. Vale (formerly Mr. Johnson)! Who should be behind them? Jon Allen and Tim! I just followed the leader and had a good time seeing and buying more. We talked and discussed, to which Tim showed me that he had bought two Ping Pong Club DVDs. I wanted to see it, but asked if he was going to the Hunter Muse panel, which would talk about the in-depth FUNimation details. He said he would try and we would meet up later. I went back up the room, played with my new goodies, and then had to go to the next panel.

Hunter Muse, the Answer Man

While walking to go to Mr. Muse, I had waited outside the hallway to see when Tim, Jon, and Kyle would come. But, another man wearing the old King Kai black t-shirt walked by. I remembered Jon Allen wearing that a long time ago, but never saw anyone else wore it. I wondered who it was, but never bothered to think about it. Soon, it came to be the time of the panel, and I needed a seat. I walked in, where I saw the man wearing the King Kai shirt, who was actually Mr. Muse! I seem to be running into everyone. Well, we got the inside scoop on some details in FUNimation, mostly about things other than Dragon Ball, which surprised me greatly. After a while, the panel had to end, so I asked Tim when we could meet him for Ping Pong Club. He told me he didn’t know, but they would defiantly see it. I gave him my cell phone number and he would call me later. I traveled back up to my room and sat around with my goodies again, until about an hour and half later, Tim called for me to come. I hurried my way out, not wanting to miss any of the anime.

Ping Pong Zaniness!

For about one, perhaps up to two hours, I watched this hilarious anime with others. But, as time went out, it just got more and more sick, so some people started to leave. Trust me, this anime is not for the weak stomach, because some of it has really disgusting jokes, but most of it is just way out there comedy. But, people started to leave. Jon had to go sing Karaoke with some girls, Tim went off somewhere, and some others went to find other things. My friend and I, who finally had enough, went to go find the Karaoke room, because we were getting bored. Who should be outside that room? Kyle Hebert of course! He was also with some girls. Oo la la! Well, we got to talk and we walked around, until Kyle finally asked if one of the girls, Rose, who was very nice and sexy, to come up to the room and watch some anime. She agreed to it and after putting stuff away and taking care of some things, we headed up.

Late Night Anime

Well, when we got to Tim’s room, no one was there! Tim finally came up with some friends and we had access to anime. We went up to the room and watched some Excel Saga, which was really funny. Then, we started to listen to some songs Rose had and we all had a good time.  And, let's just say, I love Perfect Blue and Blue Gender more than I did earlier. Kudos to Rose for that. We had a great time and it got to be really funny, when Kyle suggested watching Blue Gender and watching the episode where he dies in. While watching, he added the outtakes that he did in the booth, which was hilarious. But, sadly, the episode does contain some really brutal deaths, so it was kind of sick to watch. Poor Kyle! His character dies by grenade! Oh well. Rose started to get hungry, as well as I, so we all went down to fill our stomachs.

Midnight Snack

We all huddled downstairs and got to find us some food. Along the way, Tim went to go find his brother, so all that was left was my friend, Rose, Kyle, and I. We met some people who were discussing the terrorist’s attacks and what we should do, but it was all Greek to me. I was so tired, it was just gibberish. One of Tim’s friends, who dressed up as Mr. Satan, came by and told us that he saw Scott McNeil hanging in the lobby, wanting to talk with the fans. We all rushed, but Rose was especially happy, because she wanted to meet Duo and the original Piccolo at the same time.

McNeil… Scott McNeil

There he was, cowboy hat and all. Mr. Scott McNeil. It was my third encounter with him, but now I could actually talk to him and he could talk back without anyone wanting to kill me to rush and get an autograph. When I walked up to him, he saw my shirt, which said, “DBZGT Legacy.com 0wnj00!!!111” He made a joke, saying that someone had written something on my shirt, and that I should wipe it off, because it is very revealing. Some hot water and vinegar would wash it right out, or so Mr. McNeil thinks. We talked a lot, until it seemed Kyle was lonely talking with another friend, so I joined him, while other fans talked with Mr. McNeil. We talked about anime and how Cowboy Bebop came to be, which was rather interesting. After listening to that information, I could hear Duo behind me talking, so I went to go see what was going on. A fan had drawn up some amateur manga drawings and had actually drawn a Gundam Wing doujinshi. Duo had some huge parts, so Scott McNeil offered to voice. I can’t really say what was in it, because it is very adult. But, it was fun nonetheless. Afterwards, Scott signed his doujinshi, and started talking again. Rose had finally gone, trying to meet some new friends. After a while, I wanted to go, because I can only take so much cigarette smoke.

Last Time Encounters

I walked downstairs one last time, just looking at the dealer’s room, console room, PC room, and other panel rooms. I saw Rose a couple times, until finally I just had to say good-bye to her. I wish I got a picture, which I really regret. It was so late, I couldn’t think straight. Hopefully, I can see her again next year. My friend and I walked back upstairs, to find Tim trying to find his roommates. We talked about the site a bit more and talked about A-Kon, until he had to go. We gave our last good-bye (or so we thought), shook hands, and went on our ways. My friend and I walked back up, to find Kyle and everyone else talking again. The party died out, because Mr. McNeil had to go, with a lady I didn’t know, while acting like a monkey. I gave my last good-bye to Kyle (or so I thought) and went away to the arcade. While trying to go back upstairs, we ran into Tim. He is still looking for his roommates, so we offered to help. Mind you, it’s about 2:00 a.m. and I have no caffeine in my system. I tried my hardest, but soon we just had to stop. We ran into Kyle one last time, with Tim saying that he would hold on to his stuff, while Kyle would go home and do some personal stuff. Kyle went up the elevator, while I went up the stairs, with both of us, and Tim, waving good-bye. My friend and I went up the stairs, found our room, and crawled on in. We got the sheets off our bed, climbed in, and begin our four to five-hour sleep.
