Chapter
10 - The End Of A Race
Korosu’s
alarm went off, and he immediately jerked up, and looked around with a swift
alertness. He quickly looks around for something, and in a short amount of time
he finds it – A small coin, Saiyan currency, with a few scratches on, and a
dent that has a prominent sign of age on it. This has saved Korosu in many a
battle, as people have attacked him with weapons of some kind, and managed only
to hit this coin. It was a rare one at that, harder than any armour, and capable
of withstanding any attack. Korosu clenches it in his hand, squeezing it
tightly, before smirking defiantly. He jumps out of bed, grabs a black,
distinctive sweatshirt, and pulls it on over himself. He then goes over to an
antique chest of drawers, and pulls out some black trousers. He puts them on,
then he quickly slips some boots on, hoping that they will give him some extra
spring in his step, and added mobility. He then grabs a chest piece of armour,
and pulls it over his head, with it expanding to a perfect fit. He stretches a
little, then does a few practice punches into the air to make sure that the
clothing that he is wearing is the most efficient clothing possible. He is happy
with it, and tucks his small coin into his chest plate, as if it is for good
luck. He closes his eyes, then concentrates as much as he possibly can. Suddenly
his eyes jerk open, and his smirk turns into an evil look.
“Frieza, I
may not be strong enough to beat you now, I may not be strong enough to beat you
in 1, 5, even 10 years, but rest assured, I shall defeat you, and when I do, I
shall avenge my people!” Korosu said slowly, and quietly in a shrill tone. He
is psyched up to train as hard as possible, and he is ready to squash any of
Frieza’s followers who stand in his way. He walks out of the door, and puts a
menacing mood about the place just from his harsh frown. He walks quickly along
the road, ready to meet Bardock at a small site, arranged especially for their
trip.

A pod
continues its path, systematically closing in on its target. A tall, slim man
scratches his chin, and then brushes his long braid of hair backwards. He looks
out of the window arrogantly, then gives off an excited squeal. He can see the
planet Earth, and is only about a minute until he lands there. Ecstatic, the man
tightly grips the arms on his chair, grinning, beaming, filling the pod with a
perfect radiance, happiness is spreading to every orifice of the quaint ship,
with even the computer sounding more cheerful than usual. Of course, this could
just be the mans mood, for when he is happy, nothing ever seems to go wrong.
This man feels free for the first time for years. He holds on tightly as the pod
enters the Earth’s atmosphere, with a tail of fire waving from it. It comes to
a halt on impact, causing a crater the size of a house. It has landed, the man
is free to exit the pod, and start his new life of training, not in fear, but
through sheer determination for revenge. The pod door slowly opens, and out
walks Zarbon. He breathes in the fresh air of Earth, and compares it to the
planet Saiya mentally, in his head. ‘Hmmm, this doesn’t smell like
pig-swill. Interesting. Maybe I should conquer this planet, and become overlord
of all that reside here. Maybe, just maybe. Better take the power readings then,
see if anyone has a power that can even match that of a…a… vile, despicable
Saiyan.’
He pulls out
a scouter from his pocket, and places it over his eye. He rotates on his foot,
using it as a pivot, moving in a circle. The scouter gives off the occasional
blink. “Damn, the highest power level here is only 5,000! That’s nothing
compared to mine, or even a lowly Saiyans! How am I going to beat Frieza with
such a weak army? Damnit, reports of this planet were wrong! It’s not even
worth checking it out! Ah well, I guess I might as well destroy it. No…wait,
that would be such a waste. Looks like the planet will have a new ruler –
Zarbon. No wait, Lord Zarbon. Nice ring to it.” He contemplated to himself,
thinking out loud, finally deciding on a course of action. “Yep, I’m going
to overthrow this planet, and claim it as my own! Guess I’d better go kill
those puny warriors, hope they don’t get my uniform dirty!” At this, Zarbon
took off towards the power level, following the course that his scouter assigned
to him. He ponders over how good it feels to finally stretch his legs after
being cramped up in that tiny pod for all that time.

A group of
Saiyan pods approach an isolated ship, on its own, floating in the middle of
space. There seems to be no sign of life in it, with all lights off, and no
engines sound. The pods rapidly near their destination, as many of these
warriors may meet an untimely death, meeting their fate, trying to defeat a man
far more powerful than they could ever be. There was always a chance of victory
though, because nothing is impossible.
The ship
seems to suddenly spring to life, with lights flickering on in every single
floor of the large, circular, intimidating vessel. It’s engines roar loudly,
as it rises to a height far higher than the pods could ever reach in such a
short space of time. A hatch opens at the top of the ship, and out floats
Frieza, in his trademark hovering chair, his horns adding to his menacing look,
as he ponders over what to do to the fleet of Saiyans. They have all changed
direction now, and are closing in hastily on Frieza. He laughs as they approach
him, and raises his finger. A
miniscule ball of energy slowly sparks, then it grows rapidly, into the size of
a small planet, such as King Kai’s. He throws down the energy, with it
immersing many of the pods, and totally dismantling them, causing absolute
devastation. Only a few Saiyans’ ships manage to emerge from the carnage, with
smoke trailing from their bases, and small fires inside the hull. Frieza is
having a great time, as he looks on with the mediocre and weak Saiyans panicking
badly, knowing that it was a suicide mission all along. He points out a finger,
and lets out a comparatively weak blast, which easily tares through the pod,
nailing the target passengers in the head, and ripping straight through their
skulls. Frieza continues to do a few more of these blasts, leaving only one pod
in the air, adrift from the others, casually floating helplessly in the air,
unable to do anything, as it slowly begins its descent. The controller of the
ship is obviously long dead, or unconscious. It turns into a flaming wreak as
Frieza quickly uses a powerful eye laser on it, laughing manically all the time.
He looks around for more ‘Monkeys’ to play with, but finds none. He gives an
annoyed grunt, almost upset that he destroyed them so fast, not giving himself
time to play around with them. He lowers himself back into the ship, closing the
hatch, and relaxing for a bit.
“Those
Saiyans think that they can take on me? Well, they could become a pain if there
were too many of them, so I think that I’d best take them all out now, before
there is any more rebellion…” Frieza is interrupted by a soldier who bursts
in, panting, and sweating from the long run to the room.
“Sir…”
he begins. “Dodoria…he’s…he’s dead. Saiyans killed him.”
“What?!
That’s it! First they kill the Ginyu Force, my own private army, and now
Dodoria? You, soldier, tell everyone to halt the search for Zarbon for a short
while, I have a little bit of business to take care of…” his voice trails
off as it is overtaken with laughing, as he finds the prospect of impending doom
for the Saiyans somewhat hilarious.

Korosu
arrives at the small launch pad, meeting Bardock there, as they both patiently
wait outside a huge ship. It is about the size of fifteen Saiyan pods combined,
and can easily fit two people in, allowing for some excess space too. Korosu and
Bardock climb in, both psyched up for the long journey to Earth. They have
already had a long lecture about the controls when they woke up, over a phone
call, so they are fluent in all the mechanics of the ship. The thing that
excited Korosu most was the graviton machine. It allowed for extra training, and
more intensive conditions.
Korosu hits
the key to blast off, and the ships engine starts to buzz loudly. It takes off
from the ground, and rapidly makes its assent, gaining height all the time. It
eventually pulls away, turning into a mere spec, lost in the density of space
that surrounds the universe. Bardock and Korosu’s journey has begun, many
hazards await them, but for now, they are safe, and will remain so for a short
time, a very short time.

Frieza
stands on top of his ship, atrocious rage in his eyes, as he watches the
skirmishing planet Saiya, as the inhabitants stroll around, unaware of their
fate, as Frieza seals it. He raises a hand, then elevates his index finger. A
large, black ball forms on it, and crackles with electrical energy. It becomes
truly gigantic, and gets to the point where even the mighty Frieza is struggling
to balance it. He decides that the ball is of a suitable size, then launches it
down towards the planet, with it gaining speed and momentum upon breaking into
the planets atmosphere. It hits, then drives itself down to the core, exploding
upon reaching its designated target.
The whole
planet begins to shake, with people screaming, and lava erupting from the
ground, in regular villages, towns, and cities. The planet swings on its axis
momentarily, and Frieza’s men on the light side of Saiya realize that their
master doesn’t care about them, as they can only let out one final scream of
pain upon the explosion of the planet. A noise is heard which spreads afar, even
reaching frontier planets. A blinding flash of brilliant white light ensues, as
the planet disappears into the depths of space, reduced to mere rubble, barely
visible to the eye. Amongst all this rubble, a ship flies away triumphantly,
after narrowly outrunning the explosion. It is too far away now for Frieza to
see it, making him think that the entire Saiyan race has been extinct.
“Well,
that was fun” Frieza chuckled to himself, as if he had just been on a bouncy
castle. Showing no signs of remorse, he lowers himself back onto the deck of his
ship, closing the hatch, and laughing all the way to his quarters, scaring even
his own servants.
The
sickening laugh just emphasizes Frieza’s hatred for all, but the Saiyans that
he missed were the most powerful ones in the universe. Had he have known this,
then he would have chased them all the way to the ends of the Earth, but he
didn’t know, did he?
