Who's got the license? Infogrames.

Infogrames: Described best by one word: Ambitious. And that's not a bad thing, that's a good thing.

Good, solid, skillful game developers aren't hard to come by these days. The videogame industry is at it's peek, Konami, SCEA, Rockstar Games, Midway, Sega, Nintendo, EA/EA Sports, Namco, Square, and many more are determined to put out the very best in videogame entertainment. It isn't just about graphics anymore. Or just about what looks cool, now it's about depth, do games give us the consumer a complete experience. Games like Metal Gear Solid 2, Shenmue, and Final Fantasy X are all examples of what videogames have come to these days. Complete experiences, where as in the past graphics and polish presentation didn't really matter, games like the original Zelda on NES didn't rely on pretty bells and whistles, it ran off it's ability to change it's genre. Enough reminiscing, does Infogrames have what it takes to bring us that "memorable experience" that we attach to our favorite games from times past??? I think, no matter how crazy it sounds, that they do...

Liscense:
As you know by now, the License has been acquired by the proud makers of Driver and Unreal Tournament. A company thristy for success through all styles of games, Infogrames. After early backlash from fans because of their decision to hand down the developing to it's sub-team Wizard Works, they quickly re-grouped and entrusted Webfoot Technologies. A group that seems to be very skilled at what they do. And judging by early pictures, their other partner, Screaming Games seems to be focused as well. No doubt about it, they are definitely a solid unit. And, it seems that they were the prime choice to accuratey convert the TV show into a respectable video game due to their knowledge of 3D Games, games based on cartoons, and the DragonballZ anime itself.

We will most definitely have new information coming soon, but for now, here is an early Q&A that was done with the guys down at Infogrames.

Q&A:
Q: Who is the official development team?
A: There is a central group that has overall responsibility and will coordinate with all the other selected teams. This is to insure the quality and consistancy of the products, while avoiding redundancy. IOW, we don't want each team working in a vacum.

Q: What games has this team created in the past?
A:A variety of 3D games. We have worked closely with this group even while obtaining the license, and I believe their deep knowledge of everything DBZ was instrumental in Infogrames being selected as the publisher. We strongly believe only true fans of DBZ are capable of doing the license justice. In this we are confident in the groups we selected.

Q: What type of games do you plan to make? (RPG, fighter, puzzle, etc)
A: Yes! :) If you were a die hard DBZ fan, what games would you most want to see? Those are the games we are making. :)

Q: How many games are planned, and for what systems?
A:There will be a variety of games on multiple platforms being created simoultaneously. We believe this is a long term project and additional games will be announced from time to time.

Q: What quarter do you anticipate the first game will be released? (i.e, "Winter 2001").
A:Any game worth its salt takes time. This really depends on the platform and depth of each game. There will be some games released in 2001, and of course beyond.

PS. We recognize they're many resident expert fans that have strong opinions on what they would like to see. We would like to extend an invitation to the many DBZ fans to tell us what they want, after all, we are building these games for you. And yes, there may be some opportunities to get involved on a deeper level. We will be expanding our development teams in all categories, artist, progammers, etc.,

Through Infogrames.com you can find an extremely active DBZ: Message Board, they do seem to care.. but will they deliver???
