Interview With Kalandril

This interview will address issues happening in the world, relating to DBZ. The actual conversation that we had whilst constantly accidentally moving away from the interview was hilarious. Basically it involved us acting like fools, praising Krillen, but anyway, enough of that, onto the interview with Kalandril, writer of Dark KI. It is done in a different style to the others, as this one was actually conducted on an instant messenger.

Seexy : What was it that made you decide to write a fan fic?
Kalandril : I just like inventing stories- it's always been a part of me.

Seexy: Why did you choose Zarbon to be the main character?
Kalandril: Well, he just sort of... fit in as one. Basically, I use characters with the right potential, and Zarbon had that potential to be a main character, although there are four:
Zarbon, Zangya, Bardock, and Gokou.

Seexy : Where did you get the inspiration for Dark KI?
Kalandril : Well, Stories tend to grow in my head. I must admit that some of it came from reading Vejitasei Ascendant, but really, Dark KI is totally different. After reading some of VA, I thought: "Hey, what if Freeza never existed?" which was then followed up with: "Why don't those movie characters get better roles!!" And there you have it. The story just sort of grew from there.

Seexy : Have you got any plans to finish the fan fic off any time soon?
Kalandril : Well, I plan on continuing it, but I've been experiencing some writer's block as of late (And finals week!). I've also started two other fics, as well...
Seexy : What are they called?
Kalandril : Symphony of Hyrule and Castlevania D: :D ainaveltsaC

Seexy: So what's it like having the most illustrious, well-known, and in my opinion, best fan fic on the web? 
Kalandril: Most well-known? not exactly...but to answer your question, I really enjoy having the fic, and I'm happy that everybody seems to love it. My only complaint is that people seem to think that I'm no longer a human and I feel REALLY pressured to write more, which tends to make it harder to write. In fact, I had a strange AIM conversation the other day that consisted of: "Update now, moron!"
Me: "I need to write something first."
Him: "NO!!!!! UPDATE NOW!"

Seexy: Any advice for all the people who want to write their own fan fics?
Kalandril : Well...Firstly, two very important details:
1: Be creative. Without creativity, your story will fall flat
2: Keep your characters ON CHARACTER. vegeta will not write love poems to Gokou!
Also, keep trying, even if it seems hopeless, and don't forget the value of self-promotion. Let the idea roll around in your head a little before you actually write it out, to develop it, and don't forget character development and plot depth

Seexy: Moving away from the fan fic subject, what do you think of page pirates (People who steal material from other peoples sites)
Kalandril : Idiots...however, I am not against people using other people's pictures, because not all of us have video cards. For one thing, I've had to use tons of other people's pictures for my characters. This is why I leave it open for anybody else. I just ask them to ask permission in case the one on my site is lower quality, or customized

Seexy: How do you feel about full episode sites, containing fan dubs, etc?

Kalandri l: Fan dubs are generally more humorous than anything else...but I am, for the most part, against full episode sites...however...I am not against full episodes, just against how they are done. For example- DaBlackGoku should be shot, but there are some respectable full episode sites out there- most of them are for other anime, though. Also, the subs spread the wrong image of DB. Animelabs has done more harm than FUNi. Gokou did not day "Get the F*** of my planet" to Nappa. People now focus only on the blood and cursing, and not on the story. This is not what DBZ is all about. It's true that the FUNi dub is horrible, but there's worse. believe me, there is.

Seexy : What's your favourite quote (From any program, or historic person, etc)
Kalandril : "You are already dead" - Kenshiro, fist of the North Star

Seexy: Who is your favourite character from Dragonball Z?
Kalandril : Hmmm... I'm not totally sure...I never really had a favourite ^_^

Seexy: Which saga is your favourite?
Kalandril : Hmmmm...probably the Cell saga, offhand, although I'm not entirely sure (Freeza has his merits)

Seexy: What is your favourite DBZ movie?
Kalandril : I like Movie 9, movie 8, and the Bardock Special the most

Seexy: Bet you wanna be as cool as our short, bald-headed friend Krillen don't you! (Don't we all)
Kalandril : Oh, yeah!!!!!! Kuririn is da MAN! *Does the Kuririn dance*

Seexy: What do you think of Bulma's constant changing in hair styles?
Kalandril : She should shave her head like Kuririn.

Seexy: Now you must summon forth all your intelligence this one isn't easy! Estimate Marrons IQ
Kalandril : Ah how interesting...I'd say, roughly...(one sec, calculating)....3.141592654

Seexy: Back to Dark Ki for a bit. Are you happy with what you have written so far? It seems to satisfy the fans
Kalandril : Well, I'm as happy as I ever will be. Frankly, I can't write out what I see in my head exactly, and this isn't the BEST that I could do, but it's hard writing for DBZ. So, yes, I'm happy with it. I could be happier, though

Seexy: If you could be any DBZ character, who would it be?
Kalandril : Hmmm.. once again, really not sure. Kaiou has it easy
Seexy: but would you really want to have that bad a sense of humour?
Kalandril : The question is... Do I already? Well, if I were Brolli, I'd just start blowing things off. Freeza has a good life, but I'd have to say...Kuririn! (He gets Android 18)
Seexy: Yeah!
Kalandril : ^_^
Seexy: Was there really any doubt?
Kalandril : Not really.

Seexy:  Now the final question...it must be one to measure the intellectual pursuits of the DBZ community, and one which everyone will be interested in. One which has the potential to be asked to some of the most important people at Funimation....I got it! The final question is *Drum Roll*... how many pies can you eat in ten minutes?
Kalandril : hmmm. As many as I need to in order to gain the Magical Mystical inner Strength Within Me and defeat Akumashogun and win Anthy as the Rose Bride so I can take over the world with my Gundams
