Tim's Rant #2: February 12, 2002

The Legacy

It's really hard to write a column that talks strictly about the site you run.  Of course, I didn't run this site until July of 2001.  I have been a member of it since its creation, but I started off just the same as any new staff member there is.  All I did was work on content when I was annoyed with college and post news as much as I could.  Legacy was a very empty site in the beginning and needed the work to mold it into the site you all see today.  Things have gotten slow recently and they may be that I am not as excited about working on the site as I was back then.  The site has become full with information and I admit I have gotten lazy in updating the site with content.  I still try and do news reports as often as possible, but things are different as you all have noticed.  The site's creator, Kevin, seems to have disappeared after he handed off the site for me to run.  But everyone needs to remember that he is paying to keep this site open.  You all may not know who he is, but just remember that there would be no Legacy without him.  I have talked to him, briefly, and he said that he is a bit disinterested in DBZ lately, and I can relate, but I know he'll return sooner or later.

There is quite a large staff on Legacy, and everyone always asks me why I keep a large staff when only a few post.  Here is my response.  I have already told you about Kevin.  Seexy and Switcher came to this site I believe in April after merging their site, Saiyan Otaku, with Legacy.  These two guys expanded Legacy's content more than I could have possibly imagined.  Switcher brought with him the music videos that are quite popular (and to anyone who likes those videos, he is still trying to get them up again), and Seexy brought all the information from his site.  I haven't seen much from these two recently, but I know they'll be back with more and more soon.  SSJ4Gojita (Larry) was one of the original staffers along with Kevin and I, and he continues to work on his video game section, which will be getting lots of updates soon with all the DBZ games coming out on GBA, PS2, Game Cube, and maybe X-Box.  Infinity hasn't been vocal on the main page, but she did finish a COMPLETE character guide that includes every single character ever to appear in the Dragon Ball series (DB, Z, GT).  Pan-chan and Great Saiyaman (Sarah and Jack) just joined the staff of Legacy and work on the fanfic sections and help me with DBGT episode summaries, but you all may remember them from the forum.  Sarah also works on KyleHebert.com, helping with the chat room and forum.  They are also good friends of mine and are helping out as much as they can.  I cannot leave out past staffers that were detrimental to the development of Legacy and pushing it to be one of the best sites on the net.  SaiyangundamX (Brock), Ryoga (Tom), and James (Trunks3DX) were also original staffers that advanced Legacy from its humble beginnings.  These guys were let go for one reason or another, but Legacy wouldn't be without their contributions.

So what do I think about the site today?  It's still not complete, and probably never will be.  I still have close to 300 episode summaries to write, new sections are always in the thought process, and I don't think the DBZ craze will die until DBGT has been dubbed.  What about my future with Legacy?  I don't know.  I have been in talks about building a site with another webmaster but things are still in that development stage.  I'll stay with Legacy as long as I possibly can.  Who knows... maybe Legacy will hit the number 1 spot.  We can only see what happens.
