Dragonball
Episode 93: An Even Match, Jackie Chun vs. Tienshinhan
(original, Japanese episode)
At an outside cafe, Tenshinhan, Chaozu, and
TsuruSennin are eating. Tenshinhan, "Son Goku is incredibly
skilled. It will be a pleasure to kill him and avenge Tao Pai Pai."
TsuruSennin, "But your next opponent, Jackie Chun worries me..."
Tenshinhan agrees. He has a brief flashback of Jackie Chun VS Man Wolf.
Tenshinhan, "He may be old, but his movements are amazing..."
TsuruSennin, "As a matter of fact, until now, I've never even heard his
name!" Goku, Kuririn, Jackie Chun, Bulma, Oolong, Lunch (good form),
and Umigame all arrive at the cafe. Tenshinhan stands up, telling
TsuruSennin that they will have Chaozu test Jackie Chun. He grabs
TsuruSennin and walks off with Chaozu (TsuruSennin looks sad to be pulled away
from his sundae). Goku is hungry, and Kuririn asks how he can be hungry
after all the eating he did this morning. Goku, "Fighting made me
hungry." Kuririn, "How could that fight possibly make you
hungry?!?" Umigame asks where KameSennin is. Jackie Chun looks
annoyed. Oolong suggests he is probably on the toilet. Kuririn,
"Or he's somewhere around girls and dirty magazines." Jackie is
even more annoyed, and punches Kuririn over the head. Kuririn looks
around, while Jackie acts like nothing happened. Bulma, "He might be
where they're selling T-shirts!" Lunch, "Yeah, there's lots of
girls there!" Jackie becomes excited, and tells them all that there
is something he had to do. He quickly leaves. Tenshinhan is glad
that Jackie Chun is finally alone.
Jackie Chun walks past many booths, checking out
all the women. He heads off toward the t-shirt stand. Tenshinhan
watches him. TsuruSennin asks what Tenshinhan plans to do.
Tenshinhan, "Don't worry, you're gonna like this." They see a
little boy playing with a gun that shoots out a cork attached to a string.
Tenshinhan asks Chaozu if they should use that, and he agrees. Jackie asks
the female t-shirt vendor where all the girls have gone, and she tells them that
they have sold out. Jackie is disappointed, but quickly becomes excited
when he stares down the t-shirt vendor's shirt as she cleans. The little
boy fires his cork, and Chaozu uses his powers to make it break off of the
string and fly toward Jackie Chun. Jackie leans forward at the vendor's
breasts, and the cork misses. Tenshinhan and TsuruSennin are
surprised. The vendor slaps Jackie hard, in a rage. Jackie is in
pain, and she quickly apologizes for some reason.
Meanwhile, at Papaya Hospital, Yamcha is happy to
find out that Goku has won his match. Puar tells him that the next match
is Jackie Chun VS Tenshinhan. Yamcha becomes worried, and Puar tells him
not to worry, since Jackie Chun will trash Tenshinhan. Yamcha disagrees,
and has a flashback of his battle with Tenshinhan. He thinks to himself
that Tenshinhan has amazing power, and this all depends on Goku.
Back at the outdoor cafe, Jackie Chun returns,
rubbing his cheek. Kuririn asks where he was, and Jackie lies that he was
just getting some exercise. Lunch wishes him luck on his next match.
Bulma agrees, telling him to avenge Yamcha. Kuririn, "Grrr, I also
wanna beat that guy up!" Goku, "No, I'm gonna be the one that
beats him! I promised Yamcha!" Jackie, "Hey, don't forget
that I can't be beaten too easily!"
Inside the Contestant Waiting Room, Tenshinhan
sits in a chair, worried. TsuruSennin, "Don't be concerned with
Jackie Chun! Your real opponent is Son Goku!" Tenshinhan,
"Yes...I shall kill Son Goku..."
Outside, the announcer states that Match #5,
Jackie Chun VS Tenshinhan will start soon. He calls for both fighters to
come to the ring. Jackie gets up from his table at the cafe and walks off,
followed by Goku and Kuririn. Tenshinhan slowly emerges from the
Contestant Waiting Room. He and Jackie Chun step into the ring, ready to
begin. Kuririn wishes Jackie luck.
Back at Papaya Hospital, Yamcha stares out his
window.
Back at the tournament, the announcer explains
that Jackie Chun was the winner of the previous tournament, and Tenshinhan has
won each match overwhelmingly. Tenshinhan, "I want to see the best of
your skills." Jackie Chun, "Don't get so worked up."
The match begins. Kuririn thinks Tenshinhan will be torn to shreds.
Goku, "No, he's really good. It's hard to tell who will
win!" Jackie Chun and Tenshinhan get into their fighting
stances. Jackie wonders how Tenshinhan will attack. Tenshinhan
decides to take the offensive, and lunges at Jackie. He throws a punch,
but Jackie blocks. Tenshinhan unleashes a barrage of punches, which Jackie
dodges. Jackie punches Tenshinhan in the shoulder, hurting him a
bit. Jackie thrusts his knee, but Tenshinhan blocks it. Tenshinhan
kicks, but Jackie ducks and grabs his leg. Jackie hurls Tenshinhan out of
the ring. Bulma cheers, squeezing Oolong's ears tightly (she never stops
torturing the poor thing). Tenshinhan catches himself, and floats back
into the ring. He asks if they should get serious, and Jackie
agrees. Tenshinhan, "Now can an old man take this?!?", he
quickly disappears. He appears diving at Jackie's legs, but Jackie leaps
over him. They both catapult into the air, ready to clash in front of the
sun. They go into a fast paced flurry of punches and kicks, before
landing. They are both breathing heavily. Tenshinhan, "This is
no ordinary old man." Jackie, "He's pretty good." The
old man announces that it is now his turn. He lunges forward, and uses
Zanzoken, causing multiple images to spin around Tenshinhan. Kuririn,
"Yeah, now he's getting serious!" Bulma, "There's 8 Jackies!"
Chaozu counts on his fingers, and TsuruSennin gets pissed. "You don't
have to count right now, you fool!" The Jackie Chun after images all
move in on Tenshinhan, and pummel him a bit, before moving back and continuing
to spin around. Kuririn says that Tenshinhan can't do a thing, but Goku
disagrees. Tenshinhan, "That was pretty good, but that technique
won't work on me." He uses all 3 of his eyes to look around and
determine which one is the real Jackie (looks kind of funny to see his eyes
facing in different directions). He finally locates the true Jackie Chun
and kicks him, sending him slamming into a wall. Kuririn is
concerned. Tenshinhan, "With 3 eyes, I can't be fooled."
Jackie gets up, "I guess it's time to take you more seriously."
He removes his gi, and tosses it away. The gi lands on Bulma's head.
Tenshinhan rushes in and moves his arms around at high speed for an aggresive
assault. Jackie suddenly grabs his arms and knees him in the gut. He
kicks Tenshinhan into the air. Kuririn and Bulma cheer, while Goku remains
serious. Tenshinhan lands safely, to Jackie's surprise. Tenshinhan
lunges at Jackie and pummels him with a barrage of kicks. He grabs Jackie
Chun by the neck and tries to toss him, but Jackie stays in place, causing them
to flip several times (it's really kinda hard to explain). They finally
drop, and Tenshinhan gets up, still holding Jackie by the neck. He lets go
of Jackie and punches him in the stomach. Next he punches Jackie across
the face. Jackie regains composure and punches Tenshinhan in the
face. They pummel each other, and kick each other in the stomach at the
same time. They keel over, but get right back up and stare at each other,
both breathing heavily. Everyone is in shock, and Goku comments on such a
great battle. Tenshinhan realizes that Jackie Chun is even better than
TsuruSennin. Jackie, "His strength and ability are
unbelievable! It seems that the new generation of fighters has come of
age." Just as the episode's title states, it's an even match.
But Tenshinhan has plenty of tricks up his sleeve...
