Dragonball Z Episode 9: The Sadness in the Desert
(original, Japanese episode)
Gohan awakens unaware of what happened
the previous night. He tries to walk over to a nearby stream, but has
trouble walking with the weighted clothes Piccolo put on him. He then
realizes his tail is missing. As he leans over the stream to wash up,
an alligator attacks and chases him, as well as a saber tooth. Just
when he is about to get away, a huge bird captures him. Then the bird
and a pterodactyl fight over Gohan and he is dropped into a hole in
the desert, which turns out to be a lost tomb. He recognizes the tomb
from a book he read, the tomb of the Nemuria. As he walks in the
darkness, he stumbles in front of an old robot, an SSS type capsule
robot. He activates the robot, and it is upset Gohan has awaken him.
He tells Gohan to be quiet because yelling will cause a landslide. The
robot says there is an exit behind him, but for Gohan to turn him off
before he leaves. Gohan obliges then heads for the exit, but it leads
to a huge drop off. Gohan runs back into the tomb and activates the
robot again. The robot doesn’t care about the drop and tells Gohan
to jump. Gohan refuses. Gohan notices the robot’s visual device is
broken, and, with protests from the robot, fixes him. The robot sees
Gohan is just a child. He refuses to help Gohan, and gets shut off.
Gohan then falls asleep snuggled next to the robot. He is awakened by
a scorpion crawling on him and screams in terror. Again, he turns on
the robot much to its disapproval, but it asks to be turned off. Gohan
does. Goku is quickly shown running along Snake Way complaining of
hunger. Then Gohan reactivates the robot complaining of hunger as
well. It tells him to eat scorpions or snakes, which makes Gohan cry.
It then tells him there is food in a corner. Goku is shown again,
eating the yellow clouds. Gohan finds some mushrooms but doesn’t
want to eat them raw, so he makes the robot cook them. The robot then
asks why Gohan is there in the first place. Gohan tells it he lost his
way, and then asks the same question. The robot explains he was
involved in an archaeological study and was buried alive when he tried
to carry out an artifact. The area is very unstable, which causes a
lot of earthquakes. Gohan then tries to dig up the robot but there is
another earthquake. Gohan is almost killed by a falling pillar, but
the robot stops it. He tells Gohan to hurry and escape. He runs out
the exit, and was about to jump, but turns back to turn off the robot.
The exit then closes up, trapping Gohan inside. The robot tells Gohan
to cross his red and blue wires, which allows him to start moving. He
creates an exit for Gohan and throws the boy out of the cave just as
it collapses on him. Gohan catches the edge of the cliff and sees the
cave collapse on his new friend. He rushes over to the crash site and
sees the shattered robot, barely alive. The robot tells Gohan not to
rely on others in a place like this as Gohan cries for his friend. It
starts complaining of the noise and wants it to be quiet, and then it
dies. Gohan frantically tries to turn it back on, but is unsuccessful
and begins crying again. He then walks off, but keeps his head up as
Goku is shown running down Snake Way.
