Summary:

Preliminary Rounds Opening
At the Budoukai, the fighters were all setting themselves up, while Goku asked Krillin if he was naturally bald? Krillin replied that he used to shave it a lot as a referee reminded them to hurry, since the preliminary rounds would start. Trunks reminded Goten that he looks a whole lot like his dad, making Goten say he kind of does. Trunks tells him that he heard his dad is really strong, but boasts that his dad is stronger. Goten tells him that his brother said his dad was the greatest, #1! Goku looked back to see Number 18, making him surprised and asking if she was Number 18!? 18 tells him that he finally notices!? Krillin gets serious, saying that they have been living on Roshi's island, they have a daughter, and is that girl he saw. Goku says that's awesome and a surprise! Goku then whispered to Krillin, asking how can a robot have kids? Krillin tells him that she's not a robot, but an android! A woman reporter and cameraman saw these fighters coming, with the woman telling her partner that these must be the last fighters. She tells them that they'll film fast, so she runs to Vegeta, asking where is everyone from? Vegeta and Piccolo move by without a word, making the woman ask if they have seen those faces before? The cameraman tells her he's not sure, as the woman asks Goku where he is from? Goku asks what does she mean, because he is from the afterlife, pointing at his halo. The woman gets confused, laughing and saying that must be a popular accessory. Goku tells her it's not an accessory, but something you get when you die! Piccolo then uses his senses to destroy the camera, making the cameraman and woman shriek back. The cameraman ask what happened, with the woman yelling that the camera is broken and those fighters left!

The referee points the fighters if they want to change their clothes, to go to his right and to hurry it up too. Krillin changes, while talking with Trunks, saying he feels bad for the people here, because they don't know how strong people like him really are! Krillin reminds him the only people who can really fight here are his friends. Trunks just curses, saying he wanted to fight with the adults! A referee comes to Piccolo, asking if he feels alright? Piccolo tells him to go away, since this is how he always looks. Trunks finally comes out of the changing room, apologizing for being late. Goku tells them they'll go now, seeing lots of fighters in a large area training and warming up. The announcer then gets very surprised, saying it's those guys! He hasn't changed at all, except growing a mustache. Krillin and Goku say hello, making the announcer scream out that this is great, that he didn't know these guys would be coming here! He tells them that he's glad to see them all again and has really been waiting for this! He then goes up closer to Goku, telling Goku to tell him the truth, that it wasn't Mr. Satan who killed Cell, but him, right? Goku just puts on a huge grin, as the announcer grows serious, remembering old Budoukai's, saying that these Budoukai's have not been fun without him, because of the fights and everything. The announcer then asked if these were his friends, making him say yes, then making the announcer yell that this will be awesome! The announcer then sees Piccolo, asking him to please not destroy the ring this time. Piccolo tells him he'll try not to... The announcer asks Goku what is the ring on top of his head for, making Goku explain that he got it the day he fought Cell, after dying. He tells him that today is a special exception.

The announcer is absolutely speechless, laughing suddenly, yelling he didn't know that he could die! A loudspeaker came up, asking everyone will try for the matches will to gather. He tells that 194 people have shown up, but only 16 will remain. He explains that Mr. Satan is participating, so that makes him a qualifier, so 15 will have to make it. The announcer waves good-bye, saying that Goku and his friends will easily make it and will see them at the tournament. The loudspeaker comes up again, saying that a punch machine will be used to judge who will qualify, so who which 15 of 194 will make it? Krillin then says did he say punch machine? The loudspeaker person tells everyone that Mr. Satan will demonstrate how this machine works! Mr. Satan comes screaming out, asking who here can hope to beat him!? The fighters cheer, as Krillin sighs out, saying he's a jerk, that there are plenty of people here who can beat him! Mr. Satan stands firm, but Piccolo uses his sense again, and makes all the cameras explode. Mr. Satan gets confused, as every cameraman curses and asks what happened. Gohan looked at Piccolo, making Piccolo say that he destroyed the cameras, including the spectators, so now his friends will not find out his identity. Gohan gets excited, saying thanks a lot! Mr. Satan asks what happened and how can that happen? Gohan then calls for Goku, telling him that he wants to find a friend fast. Goku gets confused, but then agrees to it. Mr. Satan stands in front of the machine, saying he will just not have cameras then. He then breathes heavily, preparing himself, then stops suddenly. Mr. Satan finally screams loudly, hitting the machine, making a number appear as 137. The loudspeaker person yelled that he did it, making 137 points!

Everyone cheers, as Mr. Satan sweats a bit, smiling greatly. Mr. Satan waves good-bye, telling everyone to try their hardest, since he will look forward to the challenge! The loudspeaker person tells everyone to get a number and wait, but to have all underage fighters come to him. Lots of fighters get mad, saying that Mr. Satan will probably will this year. Trunks curses, as Krillin tells him that they just need to cheer up. Goku asks where is Tenshinhan, making Krillin say that he couldn't come and will probably not see us again. Lots of fighter try their hardest punches, with number 6 getting 97 points. People go along the line, with number 75 gaining 61 points, and then number 76 getting the best yet, at 112 points. Number 77 comes, getting 92 points. Vegeta curses all these weak fighters, until the referee asks for number 84. All the other fighters smile widely, saying it's a girl, and a pretty one too! Krillin asks for 18 to not go full power, or she'll break it! 18 says she understands and just moves her hand slowly, making 774 points. The referee drops his mouth, saying she got 774 points! Everyone reconsiders about this girl being just pretty, making the referee say that it's probably broken and they'll fix it. Krillin then jumps to 18, saying he told her to not go all out! 18 yells back, saying to shut up, and it's hard to hold back! The referee smiles and blushes, saying they've fixed it, so try again. 18 taps it softer, making 203 points. Krillin comes up, making the referee say that number 85 got 193 points! Goku comes, making the referee say that number 86 got 188 points. Piccolo comes next, which the referee says number 87 has 210 points. The referee suggests that the machine is broken and too wait, since they will get a new one. Vegeta comes up, telling him to move now! The referee asks why, as Vegeta punches the machine as a regular punch to him, making the instrument fly back into rumble and debris. The referee and his assistant get huge eyes, slowly saying that that's not possible!
