Sonchoh

This is another Toriyama masterpiece, a short story which was published in a monthly jump magazine.

The articulate piece of manga is about the mayor of a quaint village called Pon Pon. His name is Kataiwa Tetsunoshin, an old man with a beard and subglasses, who is very strict on the rules that have been set for his workplace.

A girl is riding her bike along the narrow road, smiling, before greeting the mayor. He abruptedly waves his arms and stops her, yelling manically towards the shocked young lady. He demands to know why she isn't wearing a helmet, and she merely states that she is riding a bike, albeit saying it with a very confused tone to her voice. According to Kataiwa though, that's no excuse, and she should be wearing one. He then goes on to rub his hands up and down her legs, moaning at her for exposing so much of them, before getting hit across the head and called a pervert by the harrased girl. He pretends to be upset but the girl isn't gullible enough to be fooled. Their incessant bickering is interupted by an incoming car though.

It speeds past them at an amazing rate, with the arrogant-looking driver tossing an empty can out of the window. Tetsunoshin can't believe that anyone could possibly litter his village, and picks it up in sorrow. He then decides to take action, and jumps into his monster truck-style vehicle athletically. The feat looked impossible for someone of his age, but he has the added motivation of catching the litterer.

The arrogant man sits in his car talking into a headset, using codenames, telling the person on the other end that he has dropped the bomb outside the super nuclear power plant. He mentions confidently that all he needs to do to destroy the whole country is to press a button on a small remote in his hand. The bomb was obviously in the form of the can. The person on the other end of the line commends the driver on being a first rate spy, with the arrogant man reminding his 'boss' about his 20 million dollar fee.

Suddenly the mayor comes, and drives level with the man, pushing his car towards the arrogant spy's in an effort to knock him off the road, or at least slow him down. The spy takes it as a challenge towards his car, and isn't prepared to be outclassed. He decides though, that he doesn't have time to wrestle the old man, so speeds off ahead, cockily noting how his car isn't an ordinary vehicle. Much to his surprise though, the mayor catches up rapidly. In an effort to escape Tetsunoshin, the spy uses a super turbo boost, laughing as he outpaces the other enhances car. His speed reaches areas in the excess of 25 miles per hour.

The mayor sees that he's falling behind, and refers to his car as 'Pochi' (Like a dog's name, the equivilant to 'Pooch') and tells it to fire the rocket boosters, giving him speed equal to that of the spy's. The arrogant spy can't believe it, but appears to have more tricks up his sleeve.

The arrogant spy fires machine gun bullets out of the back of his car, hitting the mayor's windscreen and areas of his bonnet, eventually making him crash and make the car fall onto its side. He gets up abruptedly though, despite small injuries, and somehow pushes back to its normal position with an incredible feat of strength. He then soars off in pursuit of the spy (Whom he still believes to be a mere litter bug).

The mayor counters the earlier attack by firing some bullets of his own, angering the spy massively, before the arrogant driver releases a cloud of smoke, temporarily blinding Kataiwa. To escape this though, Testsunoshin fires his rocket boosters, making himself fly into the air, over the smoke cluster. He then targets the car, and unleashes a rocket violently, getting a direct hit on the terrorist.

The smoke clears and the trouble making spy exits his smoldering wreck of a car engulfed in smoke. He desperately tries to fire bullets from a handgun at the mayor in an effort to gain revenge, but unfortunately for him, Kataiwa is too fast, and he dodges everything, before jumping at the spy, and punching him across the face. The terrorist is knocked onto the floor in agony.

The mayor takes the can, and places it on the battered forehead of the spy, shouting that "Empty cans go in a trash can!" He leaves by telling the injured spy that he is the mayor. He then drives off, blisfully unaware that he just saved the whole country.

The manga ends with a small boy taking a leak on the grass, and the mayor shouting at him, reminding him that he isn't allowed to piss there.
