The Butterfly Effect

Graphics: 7.5
Alright this movie wasn't based too heavily on the graphics aspect of things, however, when they needed it the graphics did come in and support the story. Therefore this section of the review will rate the graphics on the timing, and the placement of the events which occurred. The special effects were used sparingly, and at great moments. This made the movie that much enjoyable, because there wasn't too many effects to make you realize that the movie is all that fake. The graphics and special effects were used mainly when the main character travelled back in time to his blackouts. Everything faded, and got all messed up, then while he was in the blackout, or the memory, there was a different hue, and color to everything. There were also other times that the graphics were used accordingly. There was makeup and lighting done quite well, and the effects of nosebleeds, and all that were also done well, but then again what kind of genius do you have to be to make a nosebleed seem real. Nevertheless it was all great. This movie didn't get a perfect rating on graphics, mainly because it wasn't a graphics based movie. But as said earlier, when needed, the special effects were there to support, and "pull their own weight" you might say.

Sound: 6
Alright the bottom line is that the sound in this was just average, and there really isn't a lot that one can say anything about a movie with average sound other then the fact that it wasn't all that great, and that it wasn't all that terrible either. The fact of the matter is that the sound in this movie could have been better, but on the other hand it didn't HAVE to be better. All I'm saying is that if they wanted to they had the option of making it better. The production crew probably ran out of money or something, and they had to cut things, so therefore they decided to go low budget on the sound. Most likely that is what happened. Otherwise, they still did a pretty good job with the sound. The theme was Alright, and the credits music was also pretty nice. There was great sound quality, so you can't really complain about that, and there was proper sound used during the appropriate scenes, example action scenes had loud sounds, and fast paced music, whereas other scenes that were slow and emotional had slow, and quiet music. The sound was also used accordingly to the location where the scene was being filmed, like if the characters were in a bar or something, then there would be heavy metal music or something in the background. But other then the obvious (which mind you i have just finished stating) that is about all that can be said about the sound.

Story: 9
Alright, all i have to say is that i don't care what others say about his movie, but it relates to me, and my life, so i say that the story was amazing. Other then the personal crap that i just said, I'm sure no one cares about me and my personal life, so i will just get back to the review. The story of this movie was quite different then your average movie that you just go and watch. There wasn't really a bad guy in the movie although you could say that at times different people were bad people, but it really wasn't a good vs evil type of movie. This movie was more of a focus on an issue, or a topic, say a struggle that one had within himself. The story was quite unique, and i liked the poster. Now that was totally out of nowhere, but on a side note the poster is amazing, so just you know..it's awesome. Anyway getting back to the story. It's awesome, something unique, and fresh, to me anyway, it's something that everyone can enjoy, because it has humor, romance, and a bit or horror in it. It's one of those stories where you don't know what is going to happen, whereas in other movies there is always a conflict, and there is always a resolution, well in this one there really is a conflict, but there are so many ways that things can go wrong, and there are so many ways to resolve this conflict that you really can't tell if everything's been solved or not. That was confusing, but if you didn't get what i just said there then it's probably because you aren't intellectually ready to see the movie, therefore you should probably not go watch it because you wouldn't understand it as well as you should have, and that is the reason why i think that most people out there think that this movie sucks, because they don't understand the story well enough.

Value: 8.5
Alright this is a very interesting section to type about when it comes to this movie, mainly because it's all depending on the person, and whether they want to watch the movie again, you see if you enjoyed it the first time, and you understood the story line to it's fullest, then you'd be willing to watch this movie again. But if you're just one of those people who didn't really like the movie, and the story, or you just don't like the actors in the movie, then you probably wouldn't want to see the movie again, personally i wouldn't mind watching the movie again, maybe just once. But after 2 times i probably wouldn't want to watch it anymore, because it is quite a long movie. Things that apply to the actor's past in this movie will be discussed in the next section, but other then that the value of this movie really comes down to your own personal opinion of the other sections of the review put together, and what kind of person you are. If you're really a critical person, and all you base movies on is how the actors are portrayed in the world based on their history in work, and Hollywood, then of course you aren't going to like this movie. But if you keep and open mind when going into a movie, you will be able to realize the actual beauty of the movie. Especially this one.

Acting: 7.5
Alright this is totally explainable, why did this section only get a 7.5, well I'll tell you why, because as most people thought and predicted, that the main character in this movie Ashton Kutcher, would not be a great fit because of his previous roles in movies that really weren't all that serious, and thought out. This movie is a totally new approach to Ashton, and a new look into his life. It seems to me that our little trouble maker, joker of a boy has grown into a man, and gotten his wings, sort of like a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly, hence the name The butterfly effect, but then again that is total crap, because at the beginning of the movie it states why it's called the butterfly effect. Anyway, all I'm trying to say, is that at some parts of the movie our friend Ashton made some mistakes in his acting, that couldn't be missed, and it brought forth some of his history. It wasn't a big influence on the movie, not unless you really pay attention, but other then that, if you just don't look at the history, and go into this movie with a totally open mind, then you will enjoy it much more then the media tell you that you should. Besides it's your money, why should you enjoy the movie only as much as some review tells you to enjoy it, you should enjoy the movie as much or as little as you want to, because you're the one who's paid for the ticket, and if you're not the one who paid for the ticket, then it's your time, so make it worth while.

Finishing Statement: Overall Rating: 7.7
Ha ha, as said in the last few sentences of the previous paragraph, you shouldn't judge the movie based on this review, because this review is only the opinion of one person, and one point of view cannot judge a movie. And yes you got it, I just did the unthinkable when it comes to the media world, i just basically told you to forget everything that you have read in this review, and to go and see the movie for yourself, because i can't tell you what to think when you're watching the movie, i can tell you my opinion about the movie, but then again, you're only reading this to find out a single person's point of view, so you really can't base your own opinion about what the movie is about and how it is off of one person's opinion. Therefore you should just go and watch it for yourself, and i guarantee, it can go either way, you might walk out of that movie thinking that it was a total waste of money, or you could walk out thinking that it was an amazing movie, but personally I think the chances that you're going to walk out thinking it was an amazing movie are pretty high, because if you go in with an open mind, then you'll love the movie guaranteed.
