Keiichi Morisato, a short young man who attends the Nekomi Institute of Technology and member of the Motor Club, lives a simple life in an all boys dorm. When dialing a number to call for pizza, he accidently contacts the Goddess Hotline. Before Keiichi knows it, Belldandy appears and tells him she can grant him one wish. Thinking his college buddies are playing a joke, he tells her that he wants her to stay with him forever. With that, a contract is made and Belldandy, an unlimited 1st class Goddess 2nd Category license, stays with him. Belldandy, obviously being a girl, and the dorm rules say "No Girls Allowed!", Keiichi is kicked out and him and Belldandy need a place to stay. Belldandy brings them to an old japanese style temple. From then on, Belldandy and Keiichi have many adventures and a love between them blooms. Belldandy's sisters, Skuld and Urd also play turn out to be foes and allies.
