;)
5/30 HELLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOO DBZ FANS!!!!! Like the Undying Phoenix, I've risen from the ashes! This is NOT an info update. It's a "fun"-date! Just letting you know why I've been absent for a while. (oh yeah and I'm selling some old anime videos, ((no DB stuff, just extra stuff I've got and don't want anymore)). Thank you for tolerating my rather lengthy absence! I suppose you want an explanation, okay I can do that! As it is my final year of High School, I was lucky to have my difficult semester the first half of the year, (those of you who are "Greg-ites" will recall my difficulty with having AP Physics, AP Calculus and AP Bio 2 all at once). After that was done, it was all easy....until I decided to be a part of the Senior Play. Practices were three nights a week for four hours. AND BOY WAS IT FUN!!!! That's why updates were scarce during my easy semester. And the total lack of updates for the past month and a half comes from the change in practices to four nights a week. The week before the play, practices were every night and on the day before, we were at the school till 1 AM!!!!!! (why did we need so much practice?.....long story....) So the play went off seemlessly. In between this was the prom and a spring festival in our town that I made printouts, banners and presentations for. "What's that?", you say, "a prom? Will Greg have another picture of his handsome(?) self?", why naturally!!! Please enjoy these pics of Linda and I in my Asian style tux:

4/11 Wow, two updates in a row, am I Kuh-raaaaaazy? Yes. Plain and simple. BUT NEVETHELESS, my site is officially back to what it was before I pulled the switcheroo with Ultimate Battles and the Bios. What WAS Gokou's Bio is now in Ultimate Battles. BTW, for those of you wondering why other characters' links don't work, it's because there's nothing there yet. Anyhoo, for those of you new to my site, I STRONGLY suggest you check out this info at Ultimate Battle in Gokou's section. They're highly detailed accounts of the original uncut Japanese battles. Still spelling errors in them, but those will be corrected in due time.
Personal Request Time I'm looking for two DBZ music videos I had years ago but lost. One is Vegita VS Gohan and Goten in DBGT to Ty Cobb by Soundgarden. The other is the best DBZ music video I've ever seen. It's clips from lost o' movies to My Life With the Thrill Kill Cult's After the Flesh. If you have these, or know where to find them, IM at DBZInfoGod, PLEASE!!!!!!!
THE TIME IS NEAR! I have applied to and been accepted to colleges. Now the choice becomes....which one?????? If memory serves me correct, it's a helluva choice to decide where one spends their time learning their trade in life. There are three. Three that stand tall. First, there is Wagner, a master of Melting Pot located on Staten Island, a prime location between my home and New York City. Then there is The College of New Jersey, a clean-cut and fancy school. Will the new additions ever stop? And finally, Drew University. I hear you have an anime society called DOA, prove to me this group is truly composed of otaku! Now, I ask you, my Iron Students! E-mail me, and tell me why I should come to your school!
4/10 Okay, new section up. It has awesome never-before-seen stuff, blah blah blah, and all that stuff you've come to know and love from me. Now if only I could get Ultimate Battles sorted out, and the Bios in gear.....
4/4 I HATE HOTMAIL! I can no longer stand waiting for the darn thing to load just one of my thousands of e-mails! AHHHHH! So, rather than ignore you, if you've ever sent me a e-mail and never got a reply, my AIM is DBZInfoGod, just drop me a line whenever I'm on, and I'll instantly reply! Thanks! Akira Toriyama Interview still scheduled to be on tap for Friday! Transmission end.
4/1 Top Story! I was perusing the latest copy of Shonen Jump, when I came to my favorite section, the full-color info section in the middle. And what to my wondering eyes should appear? But the latest info on a new anime crossover series! And you can imagine I was even more excited when I flipped the page and saw what two series are going to be crossing over, Gundam Wing and DBZ!!!!!! The series is a collaboration of Toei and Sunrise. This plot will be out of Toriyama's hands and will be handled by the same team responsible for Dragon Ball GT, with some help from the Gundam team. Series producer, Watshiwa Baka, had this to say, "It's really exciting to be working with Sunrise. They've been responsible for a lot of competetive series in the past, and we hope that this union will allow us to create "The Ultimate" anime." Wow sounds great! The promo picture shown in the magazine can be seen here. The series will be coming out on April 31st in Japan. Now here's the strange part. It was also announced that a simultaneous Japanese and English language version would be produced at the same time! So hopefully we'll get to see it on Cartoon Network! A spokesman for Ocean Studios, Mrs. Gachya Gud, had this to say, "Well, we've had experience with DBZ in the past and of course, we just finished up Gundam a short while ago. Our actors are really pumped and can't wait for this exciting opportunity!". Expect the DVD versions, when released, to contain interviews with both the English and Japanese VA's.
Other News. Recently a picture with some exciting info on a new series by Akira Toriyama was announced. Well, the manga wasn't exactly announced, it was merely stated that he has something in the works. So nobody knew what it was going to be about....until now. For the past couple months, with my new position writing for the Beckett DBZ Collector, (which is doing fabulously! 150,000 subscriptions and growing thank you!), and with the help of my Japanese tutor, I've been corresponding with the Japanese publishing company Shueisha and the studio Toei. First and foremost, no I have not spoken to or communicated with Mr. Toriyama (D'oh!). But I have been able to speak to one of the producers of Dragon Ball/Z, Mr. Takeda. I've developed good relations with the companies and hopefully will be able to visit them when I travel to Japan this summer. But perhaps what has been most exciting, is that I received via e-mail a press release that will be published in the next installment of Shonen Jump!! I'm proud to announce that Akira Toriyama's new series will be a continuation of the Dragon Ball storyline, but it will take place on the same planet. In other words, no characters from Dragon Ball/Z/GT are expected to play major roles, although they may make cameos. Then again, it won't be possible for some of them to be around anyway, since this series takes place 200 years after the main events of Dragon Ball GT, (that's 100 years after the Dragon Balls are restored to working order). The name of the series will not be Dragon Ball related. The name of the series is Stryker, which is also the name of the main character. The plot has been summarized as follows:
"In the peaceful northern lands surrounding the Mizu Yama (Water Mountains), a lonely youth questions his existance, until one day, while walking through the forest, he stumbles on a orange ball. Compelled by the object, he brings it home, but soon he wishes he hadn't. Horrible nightmares frequent his dreams and frightening visions fill his days. He sets out alone to follow where these visions lead him to put an end to them, to find out what his purpose is, and hopefully, make a few friends along the way!"
Sounds like the beginning of an amazing story!!!! Anyway, I was also sent several pictures. One is a title picture of some sort with an odd looking outline of what I assume is Stryker's face. I also believe that is the official title art for the series. Next is a full-body pencil sketch of Stryker signed by Toriyama in ink. He looks bestial and human. It is very strange for a character from the DB Earth to look like this. Characters are usually humans, animals or ethereal, not two at the same time. Perhaps this is why Stryker is so lonely. The last picture is a total mystery. Yes, it was sent to me just like this. The hair looks distinctively Saiya-jin, but the features are also very...um fat. Plus, it seems to have facial hair (large mustache above the mouth), so I think it's a male. I don't think the character is a Saiya-jin, but if he/she isn't something special, why bother disguising it? Also, look to the bottom right side of the center. Is that a signature? If so, it doesn't loo like Toriyama's signature one bit. Hmmmmm.... Well, I can't wait to see what comes of this new series!
Expect Dragon Ball GT to start being released on video as soon as early summer! A source recently told me that although the show will NOT be airring on Cartoon Network for some time, the FUNimation company is eager to get DBGT out to the fans. I'll still stick with my fansubs thank you very much.
I'm also in the process (75% complete) of translating a new Toriyama interview that no one has done yet. It will be up next weekend. Till then, adios!
3/13 (Still calming down) Wow! I just can't get over how incredibly cool that was! Okay now let me explain. The story of Dragon Ball was based off of a great Chinese Legend called Hsi Yu Chi (Shee O Jee) which translates to, Record of the Journey West. Main characters were taken from this legend and made into the early Dragon Ball characters. In Chinese, the Monkey King is called Son Wukong, which in Japanese is pronounced as Son Gokou. Buruma was based on a monk who was bound by fate to take a journey to the west, India. Oolong was based on a deity turned into a pig for being disobedient and Yamucha was based on a guard of heaven, banished to Earth for getting drunk one evening. Throughout the Dragon Ball/Z series, TONS of refferences or themes to and from Hsi Yu Chi pop up. I suppose now is as good a time as any to reveal what my super duper section is that I've been talking about for a while now. In the past I think a couple sites have made little sections about the history of Hsi Yu Chi and basically expanded a little on everything you just read. Well, my new section is going to be a complete summary of Hsi Yu Chi and then a complete guide to the refferences to it found in Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. So hooray for me and you.
Now a little background on the show Lost Empire. It essentially takes place after the events of Hsi Yu Chi. However, it mixes story ideas into the fray. Like Son Wukong being trapped under a mountain, the Ox King....'s son, Son Wukong's master, the Puusa (Goddess), and so on. All things considered, aside from the mainly absurd names, the movie kept the character's personas VERY CLOSE to their originals. There are plenty oh holes that can be pointed out, (like the fact that Son Wukong was never supposed to see his master again), but hey, for a TV Movie, it's darn fine!
3/11 WOW!!!!! THIS WAS THE LAST THING I EXPECTED THIS MOVIE TO BE ABOUT!!!!!! I'm slightly excited right now so uh bear with me. ANYWAY, I was in my kitchen cooking a meal of Lean Cuisine Chicken Primavera from a bag when NBC's movie, Lost Empire came on. Ho hum. Another Asian wanna be made for TV movie. Yawn. AND THEN, GOKOU CAME ON!!!!!!!! AND THEN OOLONG CAME ON!!!!!!!! AND THEN, YAMUCHA CAME ON!!!!!!!!!! AND THEN THE RECORD OF THE JOURNEY WEST WAS FEATURED!!!!!!! AND THEN IT BECAME A PIVOTAL PLOT POINT!!!!!!! AND THEN GOKOU BECAME A MAIN CHARACTER!!!!!!!!!!! AND THEN, GOKOU WHIPPED OUT THE NYOI BO!!!!!!!!!!! AND THEN THEY FLEW ON KINTOUN!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! And then I came in here (my room) to update, and I'm just far to excited so let me calm down. *pants for a minute* Okay, maybe not all those things were named as such. And maybe, it's really Son Wukong not Son Gokou. OH MY DEAR LORD OX KING JUST CAME ON!!!!!!!!! WOW! Oh it's his son. Well it's the idea that counts. Hmmmmm, I am far too excited. I'll have to calm down first. Okay, I'll tell ya all about it tommorow. As for me, I'm going back to watch. Everything will make a lot more sense then. Till then! 9:45 PM Eastern
2/27 Well, it's finally done. I have placed a banner on my site. Before my enemies laugh at me, and my friends' trust is diminished, please hear out my plead for your forgiveness.
My site has been lucky enough to become one of the oldest and certainly one of the most popular DBZ sites on the Net. I have accomplished this unthinkable task almost entirely by myself. ALMOST! At this junction I'd like to thank everyone who has had a major part in helping with my site.
Mr. Popo: Wrote two movie two summaries for me whilst I worked/am working on other sections.
Clint Dininger: Created the Tapion MIDI in my movies section.
Linda Shi: Upcoming secret section.
Steve Chi Wai Wong: My AZN brutha who helps me out with grammarical errors, (something I make a lott).
David R.: Who also gave me a hand with spelling errors.
Kazuko Mukai: My wonderful Japanese tutor who helped me translate the Masako Nozawa Interview.
????: I feel incredibly embarrassed, but I no longer have the name of the gentleman who wrote my Movie 9 summary. I would like to thank him, wherever he is!
Hundreds of fans: Those that have offered their services and edited my work, only for me to politely thank them and tell them that I'll get to it myself eventually. I may not remember your names, but I remember everything you did, and some of it made me sick to my stomach just thinking of the hours you spent on it! (Alphabetizing my Character Guide, a complete grammar check of my entire site, etc.).
Carly Kirkpatrick of FUNimation: When I still reported on FUNimation's doings, she was my contact. Some nicknamed her Agent Mai.
Brian Real and Mamo of now long-dead DBZ Headquarters: For making me want to build a better website.
Wuken: His name is a thing of the past, but it was his DBZ Trivia Contest, (of which the results were never disclosed and no prizes ever distributed), that inspired me to become what I am today.
David Rutledge: Perhaps the first DBZ website I ever saw was The Definitive Dragon Ball Z Video Games Page, later known as Kaioshin's Planet and now known as DBZ.SUPERPOPE.COM. This was where I gained majority of my DB info at first believe it or not, (when I got into DBZ was coincidentally when I first used the Internet), and I also liked the name of the site. Wonder where I got the inspiration for my site's name....
My Dad: He bought me the Complete Idiot's Guide to HTML, something that proved to be far too complicated for me to understand. So he kept buying me books until we found one that came with big color pictures and a set of non-toxic crayons. My skills have yet to advance.
Everyone, everywhere that ever sent me news or made me aware of a mistake: Just about everyone that deserves to be credited here is actually mentioned in previous editions of What's New. If you're not on this section, my deepest aplogies and I will do whatever I can to make it up to you!!!
You: You're here aren't you? You're reading what I've written correct? That makes you just as important, if not more so than anyone above! Without YOU this site is just a bunch a meaningless text taking up space! You are the most important part of my site and I can't thank you enough!
ALLRIGHTY! With those exceptions, I can now TRULY say, everything on this site was created by me. As my site has grown so popular in the past few years, it has gotten increased hits, up to and around 100,000 accesses per day counting all sections of my site. Not too shabby. As such, the site takes up a load of bandwidth, and seeing as how my site is mainly text with a couple pictures, that is really impressive! The money I owe per month is a pretty penny and it comes from my pocket. Not that I have a problem with that! But now that college will soon be starting, I'm going to need every penny I get from my job at Beckett. So I'm asking for just a little help. If this doesn't work out, the site will not close! I repeat, if I do not get enough money from the banner, my site will not close. It's just too important to me, so I will find another way to make ends meet. But if this does work, then it would be kind of nice.
All ye who cry "hypocrite", shame on you! The banner is only on four sections of my site! It's not glaring at you on every page! Secondly, the very thing I'm advertising is my own work! I write for the DBZ Collector, so I should get to strut my stuff! Not only that, but the information I write is all factual to the Japanese version. Names are changed but that cannot be avoided. However, at all times, if something has been changed from the Japanese version, you will always see that I list it as such. The final nail in the coffin of those who would jeer is the following story. For the magazine, I was recently offered to interview the voice actors of DBZ from FUNimation. I would have gotten to write an article that I would have been paid for dealing with each major player, however, I politely declined the offer. Thank you, thank you! Remember folks, it's not like I'm asking you to give me your money, threatening to remove the site if I don't get funds or being terribly commercial, but if you want to take a look at the magzine of which I'm a part of, I would be grateful. Thank you!
Your Sometimes-Not-So-Humble Servant,
Greg Werner 5:32 PM 2/27/01
2/21 Hi everyone! I've returned from the Cartoon Network Conference, what a blast! I was able to meet the President of Cartoon Network and the Vice President of Programming. I had great talks with all of them, but that will come later. First I have some nifty news from the Cartoon Cartoon side of things. I know that this site is about DBZ, but it is mine *smile* and since I love Cartoon Cartoons so much, and I was priveleged with this information, I figured, "Why not be the first to break the news!?".
As I previously reported, the creator of Dexter's Lab, Genndy Tartakovsky, has a new series in the works. And I'm proud to announce the name of the series, Samurai Jack. It is a departure from the extreme goofiness of Dexter's Lab and will be a pretty deep series. Every episode will feature a new dramatic event or character for Jack to interact with and will be done in traditional Japanese film style, (prolonged moments of silence, split screen on characters' faces, etc.), think Akira Kurosawa. Genndy claims to have read many samurai books and studied films such as Lawrence of Arabia to prepare for the authentic and cinematic feel of the series. Now that I've built it up to be something very serious, deep and dramatic, let me topple that tower by revealing the plot. Jack is a samurai warrior, placed in the distant future by the shape-shifting magician Aku. The future is a bleak place ruled by Aku and his robot warlords. Jack will travel across the land, searching for a portal to send him home. Sounds great! And to tell you the truth, IT LOOKS REALLY GREAT!!! Look for it starting August of this year.
I was lucky enough to meet with Mr. Tartakovsky and ask him a few questions, (not to mention get his autograph!). Although he is not the creator of The Powerpuff Girls, he worked extensively on the series with its father Craig and told me that yes, many scenes in Powerpuff Girls were directly influenced by fights in Dragon Ball Z, particularly the episode where Princess first shows up. He also said that he's a pretty big anime fan in general and was highly influenced by Speed Racer, (something any Dexter's Lab fan could probablly have guessed). He currently has no other projects in the works except.....except what you ask? What else could he possibly be working on? Do you really want to know? Are you sure? Okay! There will be 13 new episodes of Dexter's Laboratory to finish off the series for good! Huzzah!
By the way, speaking of Powerpuff Girls, remember that BIG announcement I was telling you about? Well, here it is: prepare for Powerpuff Girls The Movie! Release date unconfirmed as of now. As I'm writing this, I'm happily munching on a bowl of Powerpuff Girls cereal which will be released next month as a limited edition. It's actually kind of cute. It crackles in your mouth. Seriously. Like Pop Rocks. It's like Rice Crispies with red, blue and green mounds that contain...uh...pop-in-your-mouth-things. It's kind of cute.
I was also able to catch a promo for a new Cartoon Cartoon from the mind of Dave Wasson called Time Squad. It's the story of a perfect future, where things start to go wrong in the past, so an elite force of Time Cops dubbed the Time Squad is sent back in time to right the wrongs. It follows the adventures of Officer Buck Tuddrussel and Larry 3000, (a know-it-all computer). The only problem is, these two don't know a thing about history. Luckily they happen upon an eight-year-old orphan name Otto Osworth, WHO JUST HAPPENS to be a history buff of sorts. Wierd enough for ya? It gets better. Each episode, they'll deal with some part of mixed up history a la Sherman and Mr. Peabody. The scenarios sound great! Einstein decides to become a used car salesman. George Washington carver invents 100 EVIL uses for peanuts. And Abe Lincoln isn't so honest and in the words of Mr. Wasson himself, "TP's local houses.". Whoah! Something to keep your eyes out for in June!
Two other cartoons that will appear in the not-too-distant future will be Grim & Evil launching in October and Justice League. Justice League will be in the hands of the same team that did Batman and Superman, so expect quality material. (I prefer the original Batman animated series, but beggars can't be choosers....sometimes). This will be out in November.
Really short blurb here, even though this could go on for a long time. Cartoonetwork.com is doing great. And the Toonami interactive event over the summer was so popular that 4 more have been planned. One dealing with Toonami, another with Scooby, another with The Powerpuff Girls and The Big Pick 2.
Okay, here's what you REALLY want to hear. Toonami info. Six "new" anime series will debut on Toonami before the year is through, and they are: *drumroll please* Outlaw Star (duh), Mobile Suit Gundam (The original series that started it all!!!!), Pilot Candidate, Big O, Gundam 8s AND as I reported just a week ago, although talks are NOT finished yet, DRAGON BALL. Yes that's right. We'll come full circle and start with Son as a child again. Cartoon Network's VP of Programming has told me that they really want to do Dragon Ball as opposed to GT, despite the fact that so many fans want GT, because there's a lot more to work with, (just about a hundred episode more). So there you have it. Cartoon Network has already aquired the last 96 episodes of DBZ and the series will finish up before the year is over. The new episodes of DBZ will be airring this coming summer. Also, expect to see some other anime around the Toonami block as well. Escaflowne will be in there, and the network is delving into the possibility of Cowboy Bebop. They'd need to edit the series....naturally....and they don't want to show it in a heavily edited format, (quite honorable of them I must say. Ashame others aren't/weren't like that *cough cough* FUNi *cough cough*). On the side of edits, CN really really REALLY wants to make an adult oriented section of programming. But apparently children are watching the station at all times, (wierd), so it's still a no-go as of now.
Anyhoo, that's about it. Now come on guys. Who loves ya? This is my one free night this week and I spent it writing this. (Aw poor Greg!) No, I don't want a pity party, I should really do this more often, but unfortunately there's never anything worth reporting....till now! ;) Anyway, the new section is on the Internet but I haven't made any links to it from the site yet. I'm sure you whiz kids out there will find a way to search my files and find it so, enjoy and try not to ruin it for everyone. It's a real treat! See you guys soon!
2/19 Hi everyone, just apologizing for being behind in my update. The information is all written out, I'm just having problems creating graphics, (Photoshop is being obstinate). I will be attending the Cartoon Network conference on Wednesday where I'll be introduced to those in charge of Toonami and learn all about their new upcoming program schedule. And last but not least, Phantasy Star Online is pretty cool! If you see Son Gohan running around, that's me! Please feel free to say hi or join me on a quest. I've already met a few fans of mine Online, the first of which was Hitokiri! Anyway, just apologizing for the slight delay, I'll have the section up pronto.
2/13 Well, for once I have some good information for you on the semi-interesting front. I attended the Toy Fair in New York City this week, (working for Beckett I was able to get a Press pass!), and was overwhelmed by the incredible amount of....what else, TOYS! I did see quite a large number of DBZ toys out there and even some items I can't comment on yet, but I'll touch on that later. First of all, I'll relate to you some of the really cool stuff.
1. The electronic dog from Sony. That thing is so cool! It's kind of creepy to see it following a ball around with its eyes, then walking over to it, and playing with it. Spooky!
2. I met Rudy the Survivor! He was doing a promotion for a toy company that's making Navy Seals toys, (and some wicked Soul Reaver figurines!).
3. It's not the next Tomagotchi, or Furby, I personally thought the Matchitecture set was incredibly cool! You can build incredibly intricate buildings from match-sticks!
4. Although I cannot say much about it, expect something new from the genius who brought us Dexter's Lab coming soon on Cartoon Network. Let's just say, it fits in somehow with the general theme of Toonami.
5. Once again, I can't comment on the issue, but expect something BIG to come from The Power Puff Girls soon! (Did you know they were originally called the "Whup-Ass Girls"?). According to a wonderful journalist who I met there, look for an upcoming episode that mocks, "The British Invasion".
6. Expect more Gundam from Toonami, they'll be holding a conference next week to announce their upcoming plans and new shows, an event I might be able to attend.
7. Expect to see Simpsons and Sailor Moon puzzle clocks in stores sometime in the near future.
Okay, now to the DBZ front. You all know that I'm very anti-commercialism of DBZ, but I feel obliged to comment on the issue since I was surrounded with DBZ stuff all day, and was lucky enough to go to this event because of it. I'm not exactly sure what I can and can't reveal so I'll be very general. There are a series of DBZ toys coming out that are larger than usual. They feature....features that are close to the roots of original DBZ, uncensored. Blood and battle damage are featured. Vehicles galore are going to be around. And some of them look pretty nice. Let's hope the TIMEing on them is right. There are several new series scheduled for release as the series progresses. They're nicely jointed and some even do special attacks. Hopefully I'm shedding some LIGHT on the subject if I SOUND too discreet. I've seen the new commercials for the toys as well and the video and sound quality are far superior to the previous ones. An interesting note, FUNimation will not allow any changing of Trunks' hairstyle. Speaking of FUNimation, I met Cindy Fukunaga briefly. I politely said hello and that was that. By the way, there is truth to those transforming Saiya-jin toys. However, how they transform is kind of......well....different. I have tons of pictures and artwork, but I don't know if I can display it yet. Also, it seems that it may be a while before we....er....you, (I don't watch it), DBGT on Cartoon Network. SUPPOSEDLY, the license for DB is easier to obtain and they're more interested in it. Anyway, that's about all I can say, I'd like to say thanks to the journalist I met, (that will remain nameless), who gave me a lot of really great info, most of which I can't divulge, lest I be sued. *_* So until next time! OH YEAH!!!!!! I'll be starting my new section over the weekend! Be sure to look for it! Jya!
1/26 COOL! Seth has informed me that the top 100 list of anime was divided into specific sections. Like I said before, I thought the list was fine as it stood, but hey, like I said before, what do I know compared to the people who compiled it? (I may be the Info God of DBZ, but beyond that I've seen only a few dozen anime). I don't even know what the first thing on the list is for crying out loud! The grouping is as follows:
Group 1: 1-15 The Growth of Full Length Manga Movies to TV Anime
Group 2: 16-29 Arrival of the Anime Boom
Group 3: 30-42 Starting the Rise of Anime Fandom
Group 4: 43-47 The Works of Studio Ghibli
Group 5: 48-55 The Prosperity of Comics (Two of Toriyama's works are in here! How cool is that?)
Group 6: 56-70 The Signs of Japanimation
Group 7: 71-90 The "Permeation and Diffusion" of Anime
Group 8: 91-100 Readers' Choice for Anime to Be Remembered in the 21st Century
There you have it! Thanks Seth!
1/23 Warning! Despite the fact that this has at least some real content, this is still a fake update! Nothing on the site as been changed! First order of business, SSJ4Sam has written what I think is a rather interesting editorial. I usually place only my trite half-witted articles here, but hey, I can change. Maybe even open up an editorial section (hint hint). So check out Sam's pessimistic, but always interesting view on US DBZ.
On another note, I found this to be of particular interest and just thought you might enjoy it. It's a list compiled by Animage of the top 100 anime productions of all time. Personally I disagree with the fact that they put movies and series on the same list, but who am, I to speak on this issue. These people have been into anime before I was a sparkle in my parent's eyes. For the most part I agree with the list, but I also would have liked to know what some of the criteria was. Dr. Slump received a higher rank than DB, despite the fact that it was volumes longer, had 308 more episodes than Dr. Slump and overall seemed to be more popular, BUT WHAT DO I KNOW?? Maybe it's the nostalgia point of view or how groundbreaking it was. I dunno. So submitted for your viewing pleasure is the Top 100 Anime of All Time.
If you toddle over to the GIA's artwork section you can see that cos-play picture of Linda and I as FF8 characters and the story behind it.
And now a random and completely pointless list of things that kick or do not kick butt.
Escaflowne kicks butt.
BB Senshi Gundam models kick butt.
SPAM kicks butt.
US DBZ on Toonami does not kick butt, but the Dragon Ball Z Collector magazine I write for does, (hey, the information is all 100% true to the original).
Websites that suck up to fans AND evil companies at the same time do not kick butt.
My website's design kicks negative butt, (but soon very soon.....).
1/60 Perfect Grade Wing Zero Custom kicks more butt than all previous things that kick butt combined and all forthcoming things to be listed that kick butt, so if you want to buy me one my address is.....just kidding. Uh...that is....I was kidding about buying me one. Not about its kicking off butt, which reigns supreme over all things that kick butt, past and present.
Giants in the Super Bowl kick butt.
Trigun kicks butt.
McFarlane anime toys kick butt, except the Tenchi one, which just doesn't look right, but maximum butt is kicked by the Akira and Trigun line.....(but not as much as a 1/60 Perfect Grade Wing Zero Custom, time is running out for you to buy me one!!!).
Preston Wendt from Kenai, Alaska kicks a heckuva lot of butt since he was such a big fan of mine that he actually tracked down my dad's business and sent them a letter c/o me! Thanks man!
Being exempt from Finals REEEEEEEAAAAALLLLLYYYY kicks butt and comes pretty darn close to a 1/60 Perfect Grade Wing Zero Custom, (you will buy me one!!!).
Going to Japan this summer for three weeks kicks butt for me!!
My seemingly endless speling errors do not kick butt.
The fact that Project X is back kicks an astronomical amount of butt!
23 Square games being made at once could either kick or not kick butt, depending on how much time is being spent on the games, and how much butt the individual games kick butt. In which case this could be a half and half kicking of butt category.
Writing a 11 page paper on Thermodynamics IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM KICKS BUTT!
The 1/100 Full Armor ZZ Gundam model kicks butt. But I own this already, so you must not buy it for me, unlike the 1/60 Wing Zero Custom which I expect in my mailbox by the end of this week.
Lists of things that kick or don't kick butt kick..... nothing, they're just plain retarded.
1/14 Hi everyone! The semester is winding down, and at the end I'll finally, (I really mean it this time), begin to work.......(no really I'm serious).....on that super duper cool section I kept blabbing about during the summer. I addition to that, I'm also working on yet another completely original section that no one else has. (What you think I'm just sitting around doing nothing??). As soon as I make significant headway with it, I'll begin to post parts of it up since it's taking me a couple weeks to do. Also....well, maybe I'll just tell you next update, but I have something drastic in store for the site, (in a good way!!!!!). So anyway, yes, this is an imposter update, letting you know that I'm working on the site, but I'm too anal to post anything until it's in a fairly good state.
PS. You'll begin to notice the Ultimate Battles section take shape more and more. I work on it whenever I have time. Have faith in me guys! Latez!
12/23 (3:40 AM) I can honestly say, I wasn't planning on updating the site today....er, yesterday; at least not officially. Until I went to the Gaming Intelligence Agency mere minutes ago and saw that Final Fantasy X had just been unveiled. These mere words cannot express my sorrow. I JUST BEAT Final Fantasy IX 9 hours ago!!! What's the deal? I remember the incredible anticipation and build-up to the release of a Final Fantasy game. Remember the seemingly endless wait for Final Fantasy VII after VI???? Now it's become practically the Final Fantasy of the month! And not that I hated all of FFIX, but if they mess all the rest up as much as IX was, (worst end-boss and end-boss music in the history of the universe anyone? Not to mention uninspired summons and then some), then I don't see myself being all that interested in the series anymore. Anway, that's just my two cents. The game's graphic prowess seems compelling, but as we all know, that's not what really counts. More on FFIX and it's rip-offs of DBZ Movie 3, The Matrix, Star Wars and Gundam Wing at a later date.
In site related news, (ie. stuff you actually care about), I've been working, (operative word being "WORKING"), on organizing the Ultimate Battles section. I currently think it looks atrocious, even by my standards. But like I said, I'm WORKING on it!
Well, I'm proud to announce that I have my first out-of-state job! I was recently hired by the Beckett company in order to write for their new magazine, The Beckett Dragon Ball Z Collector. I'm working on articles and features for the magazine all based on DBZ information. Keep an eye out for issue three, I'm particularly proud of the World Map Feature I worked on, something I don't even have on my site yet. If you'd be so kind, please give me some feedback and let me know what you think of the magazine and my work.
Also in magazine related news, my site was recently refferenced in the January issue of Expert Gamer. Although I have yet to actually see the magazine, several fans of mine have been generous enough to let me know about it, and have even scanned it for me. Thanks guys!
Last but not least, as of this writing, I'm officially done with college applications!!! WOO-HOO!!!!! I wrote one of my essays entirely in Japanese, so I might scan it for you guys to see. Okay, that's it for the moment, I'm extremely tired! Oyasumi nasai!
11/24 Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! Well, the response to my inquery was an overwhelming "DO IT!" so I've gone ahead and made the new section. Nothing is there yet! But there will be. I've taken most of the Gokou bio out, and I'll be splitting that up into fights for different characters. Essentially, this new section will become what the bio section was.....rarely updated. But I'll do my best. The bio section should be interesting. I'll see what I can cover that I haven't in the complete Character Guide section. My hope one day is to have somebody organize everything for me. In other words, the Complete Character Guide would become just a list, with a bunch of names you click on. When you click on the name, you'll be brought to a complete bio of that character, a record of the fights the character has been in, and what moves the character can perform, (as well as a description of the move). Also listed would be which movies the character was in, and a summary of the movie. In other words, fuse most of my sections into one GIGANTIC database. When this happens, I will probablly have my own clone slave on Mars, but nevertheless, that's my ultimate goal. Just thought I'd let you all know
FF9 is fantastic. So far my only problem with it is the Summon shortening. Square should have made an option in the Config menu that would let you select whether you want to see the full thing or not. Maybe I'm alone on this one, but I love watching the summons....over......and over....and over...
This is a complete teaser, but I just thought I'd let you know. Although I can't reveal who, what, where, why or how I came across the information, I have been informed of some interesting information on the DBZ video game. Unfortunately, I'm bound by contract not to say anything, but I'll just say this. Those of you looking forward to it shouldn't be waiting too long, and expect to see some cool stuff. Doesn't get any more non-descript than that does it? Sorry, but that's the best I can do. (Kinda one step forward and one step back, ne?).
I may be in need of someone to help with the site. As I eluded to in the first paragraph, I said I'd like someone to organize the site. That's all I'm looking for. NOT YET THOUGH!!! I'm just looking for someone to proof-read and correct...um...everything on the site. I am the world's worst typist, and I'm even worse with grammar, (not like you haven't noticed). You will not be paid, and you will not have access to the site's files. I'm not looking for a partner, just a volunteer or two that would like to help out. Other than that, you will get credit for everything that you do! When I do decide to ask for applicants there will be a selection process of sorts.
OH YEAH! I almost forgot! Does anyone know where I can get a counter which I can manipulate? The company that provided me with my old counter died, and I'd like to get a new one and set it where it was. Please make sure I don't have to put any annoying banners up though. Thanks guys!!!
11/8 I've been pondering this for a while. I would like to take the Biography section in a new direction. I'd like to split it up. I'd create a new section dedicated to battles that each character is involved in, and basically lump majority of what IS the Gokou "Biography" into Gokou's category, then take the more general and generic approach with the actual Biographies, as opposed to detailing fights. I could cover a lot of characters more quickly this way. What do you think? I was going to go ahead and do it, but I'd like your approval first. Please let me know what you what you think. I want to get started ASAP. I've gotten a number of e-mails inquiring about where I've been and what I've been up to. Let me once again reiterate, that my personal life must be put before the site. And this year, it's more insane than ever. As a senior, I have block scheduling (four classes per day, each and hour an twenty minutes). Unfortunately, I was dealt a harsh hand. I have AP Physics, AP Biology 2 and AP Calculus all at once, (Gym is the other course, a no-brainer obviously). Some of you may not yet understand what these courses carry, but believe me, you will, (especially around mid-terms and finals *_*). In addition to that, add the inevitable "College Search". So have faith. Remember, I'm just one guy ;)
10/27 Hi! I finished the Masako Nozawa Interview! The significance of my updating it today is because it was recorded on this date exactly three years ago! Enjoy! More updates will come soon. But I'm currently in three AP classes, not to mention those wonderful things called college applications. *_*
9/22 That song is so inspiring, I figured I'd listen to it while writing this most special of updates.....um, not that that's important or anything, just thought I'd let you know, however, THIS is important! Ladies and gentlemen, for many years, English-translated Akira Toriyama interviews have been available on the Internet thanks to the hard work of some dedicated individuals, so while the man who is the heart and brains of Dragon Ball has long been heard out, never has the soul and voice of the series been able to speak out...UNTIL NOW! I'm very happy to present you with the Masako Nozawa Long Interview! Since it's so special, I even made it an entirely new section. I must confess, it's only halfway done, but I figured if I went any longer without updates, you'd tear me limb from limb, (that or abandon me), so please be satisfied with this until I finish the other half off. As for that other special section, I and my 'associate' are still working on it, (it requires an awful lot of research).
Also for your viewing pleasure, I've added a new Link to the Links section, (how novel). But ask yourself, just who IS this General Tso? And why is he important enough to be in Links?
In totally personal news, I..uh...I'm obsessed with Gundam models. I just can't get enough. I want to get some pictures of my masterpieces up sometime, and that's that! Jya na!
8/24 Like a drunken father who neglects his innocent children, such is Greg Werner! I repent! I repent! I ask for your forgiveness! But even as I write this, I'm preparing to leave once again for Sunnyvale, California for a week with Linda! I have been a horrible mean and rotten person, I know! Please don't rub it in! I want to update, but the urge to play Chrono Cross was too strong once I returned from Cape May! But soon, YES!, very soon updates the likes of which ye eyes have never seen will be bestowed upon this very site! So I once again bid you farewell, and apologize for my lackadaisical-nicisity the past two weeks! As for my e-mail *shudder* I contemplated jisatsu when I opened my Inbox. I avoided it hoping it might dissapear, so I'm just gonna leave it there until it does, (or until I get back and can write to each of you). I have some other updates when I come back. I need to add General Tso's site to my Links, add a new place to get Daizenshyu's at......The-Place.com, and I need to get some sleep right now. In sad DBZ news, Viz will be censoring the manga. A petition has been started to counter this move, and I have NO IDEA what the details are, but you can find out by going here. And as some of you may now, there's that whole thing with the Freddie Prinze Junior, (or whatever), thing where he will allegedly grace us by bestowing his glorious voice on future Son Gohan. Just when you thought things were as weird and terrible as they could get. As for me, I'm heading to the land of excellent sushi bars, Fisherman's Wharf and Stanford. Jya na!
7/28 AT LAST! Time for me to leave you all and travel to Cape May, New Jersey! (Remember, if you're in the area and see me, please say 'hi'!) No updates or anything for two weeks. You may think all I've done is complete Gokou VS Cell, but don't worry, I've got two surprises up my sleeve that I've been working on. They may not be done till the end of September, but you'll like what you get, trust me! PLEASE try to keep the e-amils to a minimum. I will not be going Online at all and I don't want a deluge of e-mails when I return. Thanks!! Adios amigos!
7/26 Nothing major. I just added an e-mail button back on the Frames page and added a Beseen DBZ Chat-room. See ya there!
7/20 With an astounding 273 to 1 vote, I decided that I would go with the majority and create an addendum section to About Me, detailing...Me! (Sorry Matthew) Included in this new section are pictures and tons of bits and pieces of info about me. It took about three days to create from start to finish, (not lots of work, lots of thought), so I hope you enjoy it! See ya!
7/15 Yes, at long last, Gokou VS Cell is finally done! Yay! Now we can move into one of my favorite sagas, the Buu Saga! We'll start off with Gokou VS Vegita, move to SSJ3 Gokou VS Fat Buu, SSJ3 Gokou VS Kid Buu and last but not least, Gokou VS Kid Buu. Shouldn't take too long...heheh...right? *groans* Oh well, ANYWAY, as usual, I've barely checked it for any errors and this thing isn't even formatted, but I'll take care of that eventually. I know you guys will manage somehow. My next project is to clean up the Character Bio.
Call me soft, but so many people helped me with my petition....actually come to think of it, only David Rutledge helped me out, I had to maintain the rest of the deal by myself.....but then again, most of you probably don't even know who he was. ANYWAY, I was shown kindness, so I intend to return it. Even the smallest voice can become a roar and that's what the good folks at Save North American DBZ intend to do! So head on over there and take a look at what their goals and ideals are! Screw Pokemon, "The power of one", is nothing in corporate America, so lend a hand!
As you may have noticed, recently I've been making the site more personal, showing you pics of me, my friends, etc. What do you think about this? Do you want me shrouded in MysterY? Or do you want to know more about me? I'm indifferent either way. I don't feel the need to make myself out to be some hidden almighty power, just a regular almighty power. ^_^ I don't think it's really neccessary for me to hide behind a wall, I think you guys should get to know me more, but maybe you don't want to, and that's fine with me. I don't want to be superior, I want to be on an equal level with all of you. I'm your buddy, not your master, (unless of course you're ok with that, in which event, the work is hard and the pay is terrible). Let me know what you think, Piccolo_Satan@Hotmail.com. And one last thing, if any of you know where to find Saint Seiya VHS tapes, let me know. Thanks! Till next update!
7/8 Wow, updates three days in a row, I must be crazy or something huh? :) Well, here we go. I'm on the search for a few good ads in order to support the soon-to-be-born server. What do I need? Approximately 200 dollars per month. "Greg you lazy bum, get off your ass and work.", is your initial reaction. I do work. There are far more important things that money must be devoted to. Like what you ask? Stuff like college, car and fuel, Linda, video games and of course, Spam. Need I say more? Okay, so here's the deal, you guys send me a couple brainstorm ideas, (a couple thousand that is), along with why you think they'd work. Please keep in mind, I despise banners, I really do, and that's why I've stayed away from them up until now, when I absolutely need to use them. Try to pick ones that are the least annoying and will rake in a fair share of dough. In advance, I will say "No" to All Advantage. It works great in theory. IN THEORY. Sure, that little thing is fine for the first couple days, but after a while, it really begins to piss one off, plus if you guys don't make any money off of it, then that's no fun for you, so let's just stay away from that, (unless a couple thousand of you are actually willing to go through with it, to which I say, "Allrighty then"). Okay, here's my generic Hotmail address, dbz_ads@hotmail.com
I have also decided to set up a personal e-mail account through Hotmail. In related news, a snowball has been recorded to exist in Hell, the sky has turned blood red, four horsemen have been spotted heading in this direction and the Earth will momentarily be crashing into the Sun. But in total seriousness, as loyal fans know, I removed my personal e-mail address because as the sole maintainer of this site, (something I'm proud of), I cannot respond to 200+ e-mails a day. It was unfair to answer some and not the majority because I couldn't type fast enough, so I decided to be fair to everyone. I can only say I'll do my best to respond to you, and let me warn you, please please please please PLEASE do not write, "Greg, I know you're busy, but I have a real important question so please just answer mine!", because everyone writes that and quite frankly, it gets boring when that's the first line of text on every letter :) For now, my address will only be here, but as the days go by, I'll track down the different e-mail links around my site and redo them. You can reach me at Piccolo_Satan@Hotmail.com Now if you boys and girls play nice, I may consider returning the Chatroom and possibly installing a Message Board. Later!
7/7 As promised, here's a long-awaited info update! I've added more info to the Gokou Biography. I'm over halfway done with his fight with Cell. There's only approximately two more episodes worth of material I have to write about before I'm done with this and can finally move into the Buu era, (at last!). I'm also in the process of proofing the Complete Character Guide. When I get the server, I hope to add pictures of every character to that section. Speaking of which, probablly tommorow sometime, I'll be setting up a generic Hotmail account for everyone to mail me ideas for banners and advertisements. See you then!
7/6 In the grand tradition of embarrassing the living heck out of people on their Birthday, I've set my sights on my good friend Steve Wong! :) No this isn't a real info update, (that comes tommorow!!!!!!!). But enjoy it nevertheless!

6/16 Konnichiwa minna san! How are you all on this fine, first day of my summer vacation? Well, I promised you an update, so here I am! First of all, on a personal note, which I won't dwell on, I just want to thank all of you for your compliments of both Linda and myself. We're both very flattered!
Anywhoo down to business. I said I would be taking the site in a new direction. Well, it shouldn't surprise you as it is in the title of the site, but I will be almost completely focussing on information, not news. I'm completely fed up with the state of DBZ in America. It has officially become trendy. I'm just completely sickened with the news that I see on other sites. Example:
A new DBZ toy came out today! (Insert lots of useless information about it here)
The DVDs are coming out soon!
The Dragon Ball Live Action Movie is coming out on video!
You can now pick up DBZ Walkie-Talkies at these great stores!
Buy buy buy, spend spend spend. I don't want to sound conspiratorial or anything like that, it's just absurd that everything in the world of DBZ today revolves around finding out what new and exciting gadget you can buy. When I first started this site, I was actually able to report on the status of DBGT, what happened in the latest episode, what we might expect and so on. And slowly but surely, perusing through old files last night, I found that I slowly transformed into a hatcheman for FUNimation, reciting automatonically what FUNimation fed me, "The new DBZ videos will be out soon, you should buy them, I know I will!". I was an adverstisement, and I wasn't even getting paid! Just think about it! That's what almost every other DBZ site has become, FUNimation's unknowing advertisers. Maybe some of you aren't old enough to fully grasp what I'm talking about, but just realize that I don't want to be an enabler for FUNimation. The art of receiving news about DBZ has become a circus as well. Only a few people know upcoming news from FUNimation, but can't even divulge it until they are told to. FUNimation just uses them to pass info along when they're ready to make a new announcement. No doubt we'll soon be wowed and amazed when it's revealed to the public that Dragon Ball Toe-Nail Clippers are available at your local Wal Mart. Anyway, I'm not going to lecture you if you don't want to be lectured, I just wanted to explain why I'll be drifting away from the news scene. (If you DO want to be lectured, you can check out my very own sarcastic editorial which I whipped up a few minutes ago). In simple English, because it disgusts me. This doesn't mean I won't report any news, but don't expect me to put up meaningless drivel that you could look up yourself, like what time DBZ is on in Upper Jabib. Or on what date in the year 2001, you can watch DBZ during a full moon on the Midnight Run. Get Real. Now if some REAL news should come out, like Toriyama wants to start up a new DB series, or something of that venue, you'll be sure to find it here. Just don't be surprised when it's announced that DBZ movies will be released in theaters, and it isn't a big topic here, simply a blurb in What's New. Okay that's job number one of the 5,987 I have left to do. You can also check out a fixed-up Links section. Nothing new, it just.....works. See you soon!
6/3 Hi everyone! You probablly thought I was either dead, retired or quit, didn't you? Of COURSE you didn't because I said a long time ago I wasn't ready to quit yet! So here I am, back and in the perverbial flesh. Today is the three year anniversary of my site, and as such, I figured if I didn't give an explanation of the past couple months, you guys might lose all faith. So here I am ^_^ Anyway, I suppose you're wondering, "WHAT THE HECK IS UP WITH THE SITE!!!!!???? You hardly update anymore, and now it suddenly said your last update was in January, even though you updated in April!". Here's the deal folks. The lack of updates is a personal issue, (I'll touch on that later), however; the strange occurances at the site are a result of a server crash back in early May. The Goes server crashed and the last time they updated my files was in January, hence the reversion to the January update. (Believe me, I was as surprised as you guys!). In addition to that, for those of you who actually have my e-mail address, I was unable to receive mail for a period of about, oh two to three months. So if you wrote to me sometime between the end of March and last week, chances are I didn't receive your e-mail at all. Sorry about that, but that was beyond my control. Anyway, it's because of these reasons, that I'm finally ready to go ahead with the server project I first talked about a year ago, due to the large number of accesses I receive per day, and to better server you. *Get it? "Serve" "r" you?* (Greg + Server x Lots of Space= Happy Fans! But the most important aspect of the whole thing is money. Now before I turn into my worst nightmare, (becoming commercial), I just want you all to know that I HATE advertisements and banners. But in order to foot the bill for the server each month, I really need your support. I'll get back to this another time, but in the meantime, brainstorm ideas for the least annoying types of advertisements that would net about $200 a month, (the cost of the server). I'll post my e-mail address at a later date for you to e-mail me ideas. It's just food for thought.
Okay, are you ready for the bad news? This isn't a REAL update. It's just a little reminder to you all that I'm alive. The real updates will come this summer. I've got a brand spanking new section in the works that I hope to finish entirely over the summer, and of course I'll be working on the.....sigh....Gokou Bio, (exactly how long have I been working on that?). Once again, I apologize for the lack of updates, but it's really been impossible. Would you like to know some of the reasons? Well I can't tell you all of them, because some are very personal, but I'll show you what is by far the most important. You'll notice some pictures here.

2/11 Once again, SSJ4Sam has been the one to break the newest news on the DBZ CCG coming from Score! The game will be coming out in April of this year. I find it odd that a sports card company will be dealing with it, but I'll hold my opinion until I see it. According to the various domains, ( dbzcardgame.com dragonballzcardgame.com scoreonline.net ), tournaments are already being planned. Urge your local card store owners to buy a couple boxes too! If you're in the area you might be able to catch an early glimpse of it at the Javits Center in NYC's Toy Fair February 13th through 17th. I'll see if I can make it. I added a new Link to SSJ4Sam's site as well. Later!
Oh wait, one last thing. According to Game Pro World's second interview with Fukunaga, the Trunks Saga, Cell Saga and Android Saga will be available on video. (I can only assume he means the beginning of the Cell Saga, as to release all of the Cell Saga would mean that 50 episodes woulds have to be released in one month, not to mention the entire Android Saga, leaving the series with only 91 episodes left). I was going to speculate in my last update that the word "season" seems to be defunct now in the world of Dragon Ball, but I can now safely and honestly say that it has been. FUNimation seems to want to bring things out on video as they're completed and they're progressing at a favorable pace. That's a plus in my book. Will DBZ be the next Pokemon? Well, as I predicted half a year ago, yes. Which could be a blessing or a curse. It all depends how FUNimation treats it, and right now, the see-saw of "trendy-ness" is swaying dangerously. By this time next year DBZ will either be on everyone's lips, or have slowly begun a descent into mediocrity. I strongly believe in the prior. (If that's good or bad is in the eye of the beholder) What do you think?
2/7ATTENTION: WHAT YOUR ARE ABOUT TO READ COULD BE CALLED AN EDITORIAL AND POSSIBLY A NEWS ARTICLE, (I SAID POSSIBLY). IT CONTAINS MY PERSONAL THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS ON A RECENT GEN FUKUNAGA INTERVIEW. IF YOU DISAGREE WITH MY VIEWS, TOUGH RAWHIDE, BECAUSE IT'S JUST AN OPINION. IF YOU AGREE WITH IT, GOOD FOR YOU, GO BUY YOURSELF A DOLLAR. PROCEED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!!
Well, talk of the American DBZ video game has surfaced again, and it's pretty disheartening. Thanks to Hiren Patel for forwarding me an article from GamePro. According to Fukunaga, the DBZ game will be developed for "Sony Platforms" and the PC. Hopefully, when he says "Sony Platforms" he's reffering to the Playstation 2. For the time it takes to develop a good DB-related game, the Playstation 2 will already be out in America and it would be fairly dissapointing to see a game made for a first-generation system, that could easily be perfected in time for a second-generation system. This also debases previous reports that it might be developed for Dreamcast as reported several months ago by Sega Web. Once again, let's hope the game rests in the hands of loving developers, and not High School CAD students. Even worse than having a second-generation game would be for it to, well, suck. Anyway...that's just worst case scenarios. Why am I even offering it to you? Well, I've always given you the worst case scenarios, and most of the time, they turn out to be true. On a more opinionated level, Mr. Fukunaga has once again decalred that he, "hates doing the edits", which I would easily believe if not for the fact that even so-called unedited version still have the dialogue ripped apart. Even if it isn't edited in some parts, it's still mutated and "Americanized". Call me crazy, but I don't think Kuririn would ever say, "That's rippin!". This of course can be traced back to the script writer. I recall from a previous discussion between myself and a FUNimation employee, that the script writer specifically left in certain "Americanized" phrases simply because, (and I qoute), "he liked it". I could go into that for a couple pages, but I won't. But even the script writer isn't to blame. The final approval is still given by Fukunaga, and if he truly deplored what was being done as far as edits and dialogue are concerned, then we would have had our perfect version of DBZ on video last May, (albeit without the background music). Now with the DVDs lurching closer and closer, it will be interesting to see what's in store for us, but as far as sub-titles are concerned, we are still at the will of the individual(s) FUNimation hires to write it. And popular belief among myself and a few select others is that we will never see a flawlessly translated version of DBZ in the US. Even the ever-popular, (even though FUNimation tried cracking down on them), fansubs are far from perfect. They insert curses which are not neccessary and in some cases absurd, (C'mon, when would Vegita call someone and "ass-wipe"?). Anyhoo, that's my two cents on that. Next up, the interview spoke about the upcoming DBZ Card Game. A friend of mine on AIM told me about it and what company had the rights to it a couple weeks ago, and of course being the responsible individual I am, I promptly forgot, so when if I manage to snag that info again before it's revealed in the second half of the interview, I'll post it.
According to the FUNimation newsletter, you can expect Trunks videos to hit the shelves in May and new episodes of DBZ to begin airing on Cartoon Network anywhere from one to five months, (that narrows it down). And Trunks episodes will air in the Fall, (Wow, start counting the days guys!). It would appear that the term "Season" for DBZ is now defunct as tapes are being released on video whenever FUNimation feels they're complete enough. Wouldn't it be nice if there was a new episode every single week like in Japan? Actually, then we'd all be old men by the time the series ended, cancel that last comment.
The Vault is no more. Steve Harmon's ground-breaking and original site, The Vault is no more. The Vault lasted a wonderful eight months and exposed the deep, dark, ewey, gooey, chocolatey, caramelish core of popular DBZ site owners and even an exclusive interview with Gen Fukunaga. I for one found the site to be a rip. The interviews were fantastic! You'll be sorely missed Steve! I wish you the best of luck in future endeavors!
Lesse, whate else, oh yeah, thanks to SSJ4Sam for telling me about Irwin's new DBZ toy line. Apparently every new DBZ action figure has a weapon. I, for one, am completely speechless. I could see if Mr. Satan came loaded with weapons, or if a YOUNG Yamucha came with a rocket launcher or if Trunks came with, oh I dunno, a sword maybe, then I could understand, but aside from that, automated-weapon use is limited in DBZ. So action figures from a show being aired on Cartoon Network can tote Machine Guns, but the Guncon mode has to be removed from Resident Evil: Gun Survivor?......Riiiiight.
1/21 ......and fortunately, I'm still a long long way away from realizing that fact. Hee hee. Well I'm back, more or less, and I'd like to say sorry for being absent for a while, but nothing happens without a reason and the reason I was gone was, well, hee hee, private. So with that behind us, let's move on shall we?
ATTENTION: WHAT YOUR ARE ABOUT TO READ COULD BE CALLED AN EDITORIAL. NOT A VERY GOOD ONE, OR LONG ONE, BUT AN EDITORIAL NEVERTHELESS. IT CONTAINS SEVERAL SARCASTIC AND HUMOROUS REMARKS, WHICH PEOPLE WHO HAVE WOODEN OBJECTS INSERTED UP THEIR POSTERIOR END MAY NOT AGREE WITH. IF YOU DISAGREE WITH IT, TOUGH NOOGIES, BECAUSE IT'S JUST AN OPINION. IF YOU AGREE WITH IT, GOOD FOR YOU, GO BUY YOURSELF A SOFT DRINK. PROCEED TO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!! THIS "EDITORIAL" HAS BEEN RATED TV-G FOR ONE USE OF THE WORD POOPY.
First and foremost, I'd like to comment on a new cartoon FUNimation will be dubbing. It appears to be named "Trunks". You see, there's a segement in one of the new Garlic Junior saga tapes which has an advertisement for a character who I thought was a Dragon Ball Z character, but apparently I was wrong, because all the screen says is "Trunks"......oh wait, I forgot! This is commercialism, that's right! How could I be so foolish. In an effort to get kids to "dig" this "hip" new character, I guess FUNimation feels it's neccessary to give him his own commercial and just flash a couple scenes with the word "Trunks" across the screen. Mental note to self: What will FUNimation do when it's revealed that Trunks is squat compared to Gokou, doesn't participate in the Cell Game and then is removed from the story-line? Hmmmmm. I wouldn't be so frustrated if they just brought him in with a NORMAL transition instead of attaching bells and whistles to it. Even a poopy show like Pokemon which is currently eons beyond DBZ in popularity, (reasons for which are still being studied by scientists in Nevada), simply said "Bai bai" to that Brock guy and are ushering in a new major character. Okay, is Trunks cool? Yes. Does he kick ass? Majority of the time, yes. However, I just don't think it's right to take advantage of the fact that he appears to be a "hip new teen" and we should thus be super-ultra excited that he's coming. I'm reminded of the Simpsons episode in which Homer did the voice of the new dog for the Itchy and Scratchy cartoon. I'd like to worship Trunks in my own way, not have him shoved down my throat.
Thanks to JFA24 for informing me of this a while ago. Burger King will be offering DBZ toys in just a matter of weeks. Now you go to Burger King and buy funky colored pieces of plastic that resemble DBZ objects/people/things which will provide you with seconds and seconds of fun.
The newest DBZ tapes containing the first set of the Garlic Jr. Saga episodes are now on sale. Be sure to check out the brand new lame intro to DBZ! Please, not to be too cynical, (heh, so far this entire update has been, but only with good cause), but I personally feel "Rock the Dragon", while not the greatest thing I've ever heard, (definately not the worst), is far superior to the new Rave-Wannabe song that now serves as DBZ's intro. Fan-made DBZ music videos are much better than the new introduction.
Okay, get this, I'm going to praise FUNimation, (It's been a while). Trunks' voice sounds decent. I didn't run screaming through the halls like a giddy little school-girl when I heard it, (uh....not that I....uh.....normally do that....), but it was a lot better than what I expected it to be. It's a happy marriage between the Japanese voice and what I expected the English voice to sound like. Nice job FUNimation, keep it up.
Once again, thanks to JFA24 forn letting me know that you will soon be able to hold a piece of plastic in your hands that displays a screen on which a DBZ video game is displayed. Wow, cool. More news as it becomes available.
*Singing Christina Aguilera song* "I'm a Dragon in a Ballll, you gotta gather them all.". Okay, so maybe I won't win any awards, but Christine Aguilera does in my book. Apparently "What a Girl Wants", is DBZ merchandise. Piccoloson124 wrote me telling me that a DBZ poster with DBZ characters can clearly be seen on a wall during the beginning of the song. Thanks to others who informed me of this as well. I appreciate it!
Yay, Toonami is growing! I've known about this for a while, but previously wasn't available to post it. Gundam will be joining the Toonami ranks this Spring. I'm familliar with Gundam only in name, that and the 5,437,897 different types of Gundam merchandise which can be purchased in China Town. It looks more than decent judging by the commercials which are now running on Toonami. Look for it this spring.
We all said a sad goodbye to our friend Skitz's site, DBZ: Third Season, at the start of this year. Skitz has been a major contributor to this site is quite a few aspects, and will thankfully continue to. However, I assure you that our friend Skitz is not through with the Internet, and DBZ for that matter. Ooooh no. In the words of some famous guy from some famous movie the name of which I forget, "You ain't seen nuthin yet!". I've seen the future, and the future is good! Just be patient and you'll see something amazing in the coming months.
Oh yeah, my site, forgot about that. Okay, lesse. I updated the FAQ with information on where to get DBZ manga and also added the address and phone number of Asahiya. And one other thing.....mow what was it.......oh yeah that's right.....but, NAH, you guys wouldn't really care......What's that? You wanna know what it is? Wellllll.....NAH, it would probably bore you to death....ACK GET YOUR HANDS OFF MY THROAT!!!!!! OKAY OKAY I'll tell you! I UPDATED THE GOKOU BIO!!!!!!! More to come soon!
12/14 No, contary to popular belief and wishful thinking, I have not fallen off the face of the earth. Why have I been gone so long? Well, long story short, the computer I use to make the buttons for my site which has the Eye Candy program went splat, so I was/am unable to make any new buttons for my site. Why do I need a new button pray-tell? Because I have a new section of course! However, not wanting to be half-assed, I wanted to wait and try to get the comp fixed, which never happened, so I finally said, "Hell with it", so here I am updating without the button for my new section. So what is my new section? Well, it's more or less a very intricate "family tree" of Dragon Ball characters. More accurately, it could be called a "Character Tree". It will tell you who marries who, who takes over who's position, and who the most holy deity is. It should answer most of your major relationship questions. For the time being, you can reach it here and through the text links on my Main page, I'll have a new button as soon as I get the computer with Eye Candy working again.
In slightly old but good news, (which I wasn't able to cover because I didn't want to update my site w/o the new section), there was an article in the New York Post dedicated to DBZ and Toonami. The article discussed DBZ's growing popularity in America, and also mentioned the new expansion which Toonami will soon be getting. As some of you may know, Gundam and Tenchi Muyo will be joining the ranks of Toonami, when it is expanded to a three hour time-slot next year. Now, don't get me wrong, Reboot is okay, but here's hoping they ditch it and stick either Voltron or Robotech in next to the others. Then it would actually be entirely devoted to anime. Cool.
The estimated time of release for DBZ Movie 4 "Super Saiya-jin Son Gokou", (even though he doesn't actually truly go SSJ in the movie), is around March. That's about it for now. Look for the Gokou VS Cell fight to be completed sometime during the last week of December if all goes well. Oh yeah, I'll be getting rid of that stupid Halloween picture on my site and replacing it with a Christmas one real soon.
11/27 Well, the newest DBZ videos have been given release dates, their titles and shipping dates are as follows:
Volume 27 "Frieza: 11th Hour" to be released on 1/18/00 (Isn't putting 00 weird?)
Volume 30: "Garlic Jr: Black Water Mist" to be released on 1/18/00
Volume 28 "Frieza: Fall of a Tyrant" to be released on 2/15/00
Volume 31: "Garlic Junior: Sacred Water" to be released on 2/15/00
Volume 29: "Frieza: Namek's End" to be released on 3/14/00
Volume 32: "Garlic Jr: Vanquished" to be released on 3/14/00
As you might be able to tell, FUNimation will be releasing one tape containing episodes already seen on Cartoon Network and one with new episodes each month. Unfortunately, the bad news is, that all of these tapes will only be comprised of 21 episodes, and the last tape released by FUNimation stopped at the Japanese equivalent of DBZ episode 96. So when you do the math, (96+21), that brings us to episode 117. Just two episodes before the arrival of Trunks. So unfortunately, FUNimation did get ONLY 50 episodes for Season 3. Bummer. Unless FUNimation decides to lay any surprises on us, there will be no Trunks till Season 4. Oh well, at least we have another bit of good news to subdue the pain. FUNimation announced that they will indeed dubb Dragon Ball GT after Dragon Ball Z is completed. That's a pretty hefty statement considering they have just under 200 episodes left of DBZ to work on, not to mention the 140 or so episodes of DB they have left. This also agrees with their previous announcement that no matter what Cartoon Network does to DBZ, (yeah right, as if CN would dump DBZ right now), they will continue to release it on home video. So we can be pretty sure that in the not-to-distant future, we will be seeing SSJ3 Son Gokou and Buu go at it. How will it turn out? Only time will tell. Also, I've seen the video covers, and um, well, let's just say they haven't changed. Whether that's a good or bad thing is up to you. Thanks to rightstuf.com for the titles and release dates.
11/21 Just some house-keeping updates. I cleaned out my Links by removing dead ones and adding new ones, there are a few more to come. I also updated my FAQ section and have doubled its length. You should read it if you have a chance, I've answered some of the most asked questions. There will of course be more added shortly. And I'm also proud to announce that I've begun work on the Gokou VS Cell summary but HAVE NOT uploaded any text yet. Expect to see it updated next week. That about wraps it up. Oh yeah, see Sleepy Hollow, it's the greatest movie, since, um, Dogma, (did you notice how all the good movies are coming out now as opposed to the summer?). What surprised me about Sleepy Hollow was its extremely high level of violence. Not that I actually cared or anything, it just surprised me. There's more heads ripped off in this movie than in Predator 1 AND 2! And you actually see it happen, (special effects, ya gotta love 'em). I mean, this movie makes Saving Private Ryan like Barney's Big Adventure! In one scene you actually see the horseman chop a guy completely in half. Not only that, but after he removes people's heads, he normally walks around with them. But I mean sure, feel free to bring the little ones *if you feel like paying therapy bills*. Seriously though, if you can stomach it, go see it. It's a fantastic movie, and I garauntee you won't figure out the who's behind it until the last 15 minutes of the movie where it has to be spoon-fed to you. It's a great movie! And not only that, but it comes equipped with a Mission Impossible 2 trailer!! Now, I know some people didn't like MI because it was so different from the series, (like Mr. Phelps would ever be bad). I personally liked it, but while the movie was loaded with suspense, it only had one really good action scene. Well, from the trailer, it looks we ain't in Kansas no more. Why? I'll tell you why, because it has a name attached to it. A name which is synonymous with God of Cinematography and action. The name in Woo, John Woo. In the trailer alone, there was more action than in all of The World is Not Enough. It looks amazing, and if I didn't know any better, I'd say it actually looked more like The Matrix 2 than MI2. It's gonna be a great summer!
11/16 Hi guys. I decided a short time ago that I needed to remove my e-mail address from my site. Before you conjur up mythical reasons for this action in your mind, I'll just explain the reason directly. It's very simple. There are lots of you, and only one of me. I opened up my e-mail account on the first day DBZ repeated on Cartoon Network, and was swamped with 837 messages. Most of which were the same topic, "Why did DBZ restart?". It wasn't a very pleasant experience. Of course, that was a worst case scenario, typically I get anywhere from 50-200 e-mails per day. I cannot respond to all of them. You might think I could, "Just answer a few of those e-mails". Yes, of course I could. Then that would leave all the other people with unanswered messages which they took their own time to write to me; and not replying to them would be very rude. Rather than have people waste their time writing letters which may not get answered, I decided that it would be best to remove the system. "But how will you ever answer my question which HAS to be answered?", simple. I'll expand my FAQ. I'll add the answers to the most frequently asked questions I've received as of late regarding everything from character info to updates on the status of DBZ in America. And, I will post my e-mail address back on my site every once in a while, although I will not mention its presence in What's New. Please know that this isn't because I think you guys are pests. You aren't. Far from it. I've received hundreds of kind letters from you guys and I really appreciate all of them, and not having the time to reply to them in the detail I'd like to is not satisfactory, so I'm just preventing that from happening. If you must find me, I do have Yahoo Messenger and AOL IM, but you'll have to find me first ;) Oh yeah, one last thing. The MOST popular question has been, "Where can I get uncut DBZ?". I'll be addressing that shortly on the site. See you next update!
11/12 I beat Resident Evil 3!!! It's a pretty good game by itself, but when you compare it to the likes of RE2, it's um, not so great. I won't ruin anything, but it's almost of step down from RE2 in terms of....well, almost everything, except for Nemesis appearing all the time, which is pretty darn cool. Anyway, George's site is gone! I'd like to declare victory, but the fact that his site is actually gone means that he probably moved it elsewhere, which is pretty funny considering he wouldn't have been able to tell anyone where it went, so it's just sitting out in cyberspace alone, where it will either die a slow death, or one of you will find it, and I will make his life Hades again. Anyway, that's about it for today, oh wait, I forgot. Yeah, I did update something else.....now what was it again? Hmmmm, oh, that's right, I UPDATED THE GOKOU BIOGRAPHY FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MONTHS! I did the entire Gokou VS Number 19 fight, (which is not that much really), but Gokou VS Cell is up next! This update is dedicated to Sean Halloran, who did everything short of sticking his foot up my posterior end in order to get me on, (as opposed to off), my lazy butt and type this. See you next update!
11/4 Well, I haven't updated in a while, so I decided to just do something fun. Random news! In this first installment of Random News! you will find fun and stupid facts and opinions discovered by me. Read on...if you dare!
Dragon Ball Z in Time Magazine! Well, uh, sorta kinda...maybe not really. In an article from a recent issue of Time discussing "Juvenile Humor" there's a picture of a group of kids listening to a comedic lecturer. Wouldn't ya know, a kid in the front row is wearing a DBZ T-Shirt. Seen below. This is a big step for DBZ! Well, uh, actually no, it isn't at all, but that's why it's.....Random News!.

10/25 It's going good guys, so far, George has gotten over 200 e-mails complaining about his theft. Please please keep it up! On another note, you may notice that a link to his actual "site", (simply by definition), is not here. That's because I know a lot of you would go to check out what he ripped off from this and other sites, but if that happened, then he'd just be getting lots of hits, and we don't want that. If you would like to see his site, please e-mail me.
Also, as I mentioned before, I'm not the only one he's ripped off. He's stolen material from Skitz's site as well, and Skitz will soon be making note of it at his site. George tried to defend himself by saying such things like, "DBZ site owners don't trade anymore.". Tough luck George. I and others have made DBZ information available so that people like you can learn more about the series. If you want to write information, then by all means, use mine as a guide, that's what's it's there for, but don't copy and paste what I took my personal time to write. George also claims that several items which he stole were not taken from my site. That's probablly true. There are many thieves out there who have stolen from my site, and if neccessary I will deal with all of them like George. I can understand if George took the info. from a friend's site who said, "Sure, you can take it.". I can sympathize with him on that point if he didn't know it was mine. But the point is, he should have still removed it as I requested. Which he has failed to do. On a funny note, George says that he's now been blacklisted on four sites which he says, "Is still not bad". I'm not sure who those other sites are, but Georgie Boy, being blacklisted on even one site is bad enough. But the crowning achievement of George's graduation from The Complete Moron's School of Ignorance is this statement, and I qoute, "So I said to myself, "Everybody is stealing from each other, but they won't exchange them, even if they aren't their own creations. Since everybody is stealing then I'm not stupid, I'm going to steal too.", end qoute. (By the way George, I didn't steal that statement. I rewrote it and corrected all its spelling errors.) So I guess George would also agree that if people are blasting innocent victims away, promoting violence against races and yes, even jumping off bridges, then I guess it's okay for you to do it too huh? Interesting. Well guys, that's enough time devoted to this for one day. Once again, please mail your complaints to.....well, you know.
10/23 Unfortunately, some people out there lack creativity and respect. Some of these people own DBZ websites. George is one of them. You see, George has stolen several sections from my site and made them his own, as well as several images. He's taken my Fists of the Dragon section, he's taken my Time-Line, (several Time-Lines are around, but he has mine specifically), as well as my Little Known Facts section, and get this, EVEN MY FAQ! Now I know a lot of you must be saying, "Wow, that guy is a lazy SOB!". But let me reassure you, he's far worse than that. After I sent George a polite but firm e-mail asking him to remove what was rightfully mine from his pathetic excuse for a site. I clearly explained that failure to do so would result in consequences. I have been through this game with several thieves before, and they have all had the decency, (and common sense), to comply with my reasonable request. Well, not only did George refuse to remove the material, he also used the excuse that, "Everyone steals from sites at one point! You can't say you haven't stolen stuff yourself. You didn't create Dragon Ball and information doesn't grow on trees!". Whew, was I ever the wrong person to say that to Georgie Boy! Unfortunately this poor lad doesn't know how many hours I've spent learning to read and write a considerable amount of Japanese, and then used those skills to translate sections which have, in some cases, taken me over a month to complete. Apparently, George doesn't seem to think it's possible that one person can learn that much on their own. Think again. As for images, I have personally scanned, captured or made all of the 300+ images that are on my site to this date. My site is 100% original. George's site is a pathetic conglomeration of so-called "original information" from every site imagineable. One look at the god-awful design of the site will automatically show you that George spent about two seconds on design, and the rest simply copying and pasting other people's hard work. I mean, my site's design isn't so hot, but George's looks like a two year-old taking their hand at HTML. At least have some decency to put the poor thing to death George. At any rate, I hope you have all gathered by now, that your mission is to e-mail George and let him know how you feel about trash like him stealing other people's hard work, (not just my own), and putting their worthless name on it. I do not normally ask for this type of action, however, I detest plagiarism. Might I add, that George didn't even have the decency to give me credit for anything? What a sad sad individual. Well, I'll leave the rest up to you guys. Be creative with your letters to George. He was forewarned this would happen, now he has to suffer the consequences.
10/21 Well, a few minutes ago I received information from my ISP at Goes Global Online Services, Norman Brandinger, that something about my site was going to have to change. Why? Well it's all thanks to you guys actually, (and I seriously mean that!!). I was told by him that my site is now receiving over 100,000 hits a day. When I pulled my jaw off the floor, I asked how that was possible since my front counter only displays approximately 850,000 hits total. Well, it seems that an awful lot of you aren't going through my site's "front-door" AKA, the front page, and thus are not triggering the counter. He then told me that on an average, every two days, two gigabytes of data is transfered from my site. That is quite amazing, and almost ridiculous, considering majority of my site is simply text. He then told me that of the sites hosted on his server: banks, corporations, etc. my site comes only second to the top Honda site in the country, (which currently receives 800,000 hits per day). Anyway, rather than boot me off, or charge me mile-high prices, he wants me to come down to the store and work out a situation. He's suggesting that we can work out a deal for me to have my own server. Cool! I don't quite understand it, but cool! Anyway, I just wanted to let you guys know about this in case some changes take place around here. See you next update! Oh yeah, thank you guys for making this site so popular!
10/19 First of all, if you've read my About Me section, you'll know that FF6 and Chrono Trigger are my favorites RPGs. FF8 has not changed this. However, FF8 earns a spot right next to those two games. FF8 is one of the most enjoyable RPGs I've played in a long time. It's just FUN to play.
Junction System- Junctioning is a wonderful new system, which I prefer, by far, to the horrid Materia system, by far. How ridiculous was is that some character's stats would go DOWN when they were equipped with things to make them better? Junctioning fortunately changes that. The only problem I have with it, was I would find myself almost never using magic unless it was a difficult battle, or just wanted to kick serious butt with Aura. However, by the end of the game, if you get your characters to Level 100 and spend a decent amount of time in the Islands Closest to heaven and Hell gathering rare spells and junctioning them, then your normal attacks will most likely be more powerful than magic anyway so there was no need to use it. I felt limited with the number of Junction, Character and Party Abilities that each character could normally be equiped with, but as long as one or two characters has Ability x 4 it was allright. In general it worked out fine, although for nostalgia sake, it would have been nice to have seen some Jump, Sword Technique, Rune, Slash-All, Flash or Tools abilities, since their replacements, Auto-Potion, Auto-Reflect and the like, weren't all that wonderful. I will admit that a LOT of the Menu Abilities were REALLY good though!
Guardian Forces- Well, yeah, a couple of them were really great looking, and you can't admit that you weren't awed by all of them the first time you saw them, (well, except for Doom Train), but majority just seemed uninspired when compared to their FF7 predecessors. Ifrit was great, so was Shiva, Leviathan, Queztacotl and then of course my absolute favorite, Diablos, but the rest were kind of a let-down. Alexander looked GREAT, but just remember how cool it was in FF7 when he smashed through the ground right in front of your opponents, no doubt causing them to soil themselves. Cerberus' effect was great, but how much would you have loved to have seen him maul your victims instead of help you guys out? Brothers was intersting, and very creative, but for the amount of damage it caused, it wasn't worth the time. Cactaur was neat, but what's the point of wasting time summoning him, when if your character attacked normally, they could do just about the same amount of damage? Siren was ooookay. Tonberry was good for a laugh, but not much else, (great Junctioning though!). Pandemona was original at least. I think I used Carbuncle twice. Doom Train was just dumb. Hades looked so much better. Then there's Bahamut. I have mixed feelings on this guy. Yeah okay, he IS cool, but he's nothing compared to Neo or Zero in FF7. At last Eden. Is Eden worth the work? Yeah. It's pretty powerful, (not very as compared to Lion Heart, but yes, it's powerful), and the attack itself is interesting. However, KotR left me with a far greater sense of accomplishment than Eden. Seeing 13 dudes come out and beat the living tar out of the poor helpless victim, like say, um, Sephiroth, was an incredible experience. Eden isn't bad per-say, it's just not as fulfilling. Chicobo is lame in general, but the ability to upgrade him via a Pocketstation so that he can perform Choco Flare and Choco Buckle, is pretty darn cool. MiniMog is......cute. And that's about it, although it's a great Ability! I haven't seen the Moomba GF, "Friendship", yet. My Chicobo is only on level 27.SPOILER, DO NOT READ THE REMAINDER OF THIS SECTION UNLESS YOU WANT TO RUIN A COOL GF ENCOUNTER Griever was cool, even though he was almost a total Ifrit rip-off with wings and pallete swap. My only question is.....WHY? Why the heck does Ultimecia have this guy when Squall is plastered with Griever propaganda? Having this guy would be so great as his moves can be devastating, or at least crippling. It's a shame he's so easy.
Plot- Final Fantasy's plot doesn't blow me away. But in this case it's a good thing since neither did Chrono Trigger's. The plot was great and had it's fair share of amazing twists and turns. And unlike FF7, I didn't end up hating a character because of it, or end up finding plots holes. I mean, after you spend hours "bonding" with a main character, how fun is it to find out that he created an alternate past for himself because he felt like a dork? At least Squall and the others had a perfectly good reason for their forgetfulness. And anyway, too much of a plot can be a bad thing. Example: Xenogears. Just too much information was their, and because of that, the second CD was terrible since the first CD was crammed with so much stuff. Had it not been for that second CD, Xenogears would have been an amazing game, and perhaps one of the best, but that's what happens when you try to cram too much stuff into a game. Oh, that brings to a quick off-topic note. On the 4th disc, it's true that all towns and most areas, (except Chocobo Forests and the Card Queen), are sealed off. Yes, it was done to save space. But at least there's a major reason for it, and besides, the towns look cool sealed off anyway. Back on track, the plot was great, and is the most enjoyable one I've experienced since Legend of Legaia.
Music- This is a mixed bag. Some of the music is really great! But some of the music is pretty bad. The opening song is GREAT and remenicent of the greatest boss music in history, "On Winged Angel", coincidentally also in a FF game and also by Nobuo Uematsu. Many of the themes are interesting, and Edea's theme(s) are also enjoyable. "Eyes on Me" is, simply put, a masterpiece. When it plays during the end, if it doesn't get at least one tear to drop, check to see if your skin is rock hard. But then there's some music that's very ho-hum and plain. Timber's theme is annoying. The obligatory action music, (played during the Dollet liberation), is a MAJOR letdown considering it was actually changed from what it was in the demo. Why was it changed? I dunno, but it sounded an awful lot like the theme from "The Rock" and really put you in the mood. The normal boss music was not bad, but that's what's so terrible about it. It could have served as boss music for any RPG, and FF is not your average RPG. FF7's boss music was far superior. Edea's boss music was boring, and starts off sounding like a remix of the Airship theme from FF7. Not terribly enticing or exciting. SPOILER! DISCUSSION OF END BOSS MUSIC!! Okay, well Ultimecia's first form music is the same as Edea's, and you already know what I think of it. Griever's theme is pretty good, but unfortunately, if you take him out quickly, you only get to hear a few seconds of it. When Ultimecia Junctions herself with Griever, the type of boss music I expect to come out a FF starts up. My favorite part has to be in the very beginning when the drums start up and a vocal "Ha!" blasts out. My only quam is that it should have included more vocals, and it should have been normal boss music. Ultimecia's true form music is good, but as with the normal boss music, I expect this type of music to come out of your typical generic RPG end boss. There's no way in Hades this could possibly ever hope to stack up against "Hopping Mad" or "One Winged Angel". Although I'm sure he put his heart and soul into it, I can't help but think Mr. Uematsu was possibly thinking when he wrote this up for Ultimecia. In my personal humble opinion, I believe a lengthed version of the opening song would have been excellent here. I must say though, the end boss looked absolutely stunning, and I wasn't even expecting it. I thought Griever/Ultimecia was the final boss. In addition, Apocalypse is very cool looking, and in all honesty, the way Ultimecia explodes, (and boy do I mean explode!), makes up for it all.
Graphics- Why are you even reading this? As if any of the graphics in this game were any less than superior? Yeah right! I've never seen such a visual tour-de-force in a video game before!
Characters- Excellent job Square! Instead of giving us characters who are boring, have no interesting background story, or are just plain dumb, you gave us quality over quantity. I was skeptical at first of the small number of characters, and the lack of secret characters, but after I realized, how the secret characters in FF7 turned out, I kicked myself in the head and wondered what I was complaining about. It's true that FF6 had a HUGE amount of characters, but you actually cared for each of them since they all had a rich story behind them. And for those who didn't have a good BG story or just sucked, (Umaro, Gogo.....Relm), you didn't care not caring about them since you had so many other characters. In FF8, each character is very deep, although not as much as I would have liked them to be, but they were still deep, (when reading about Quitis getting "emotional", I expected some major plot twist, but I didn't see one example of that "emotion"). Squall was GREAT! He was such a fun main character! And his emotional change progresses at a believable rate. He finally gets a kick in the butt and expresses himself when he loses what's most important to him. It was fun watching him grow and change, as it was with all the characters! My only dissapointment was in the very end. There was no long and involved villain speech! I had to play through FF7 a couple times before I heard what each character said to Sephy, and in FF6, each character you took the time to get speaks up, (well uh, except Umaro or Gogo). The final battle seems kind of anti-climactic without the obligatory revealing of plans for world domination or each character supporting the others. But oh well, the end battle makes up for it.
Ending- If you read this section and have not beaten FF8, you should be beaten with the stupid stick. The fleas of a thousand camels should infest your armpits. You would be ruining one of the best parts of the game. If you have no intention of beating FF8, then by all means continue, but remember, you've been forewarned. "Wow.". That's what I said about five minutes after the ending had finished and I was able to dry my eyes. It's the most fulfilling ending since....uh....since ever. Have you actually timed it? The sucker is over 20 minutes long! It wraps everything into a nice little ball of um, stuff. I started to ooze tears and laugh out loud when I saw Seifer on the dock smiling. But when Laguna proposed to raine, that did it to me. Boy, the Werner Waterworks were sure busy that night! It was great actually seeing everyone again, and "Eyes on Me" is a beautiful finishing touch. Then there's the video camera part. It was absolutely hysterical! I got to see all the characters act exactly as I would expect them to. Example, Selphie being over-excited. Quistis having a "Uh hello, nice to see you, now leave me alone please" kind of attitude. Irvine goofing off and flirting with the "hotties", (then Selphie berating him). But I cracked up when I saw Zell stuffing his face. Poor Zell FINALLY got his hot dogs! Edea and Cid together as a tear-jerker. And even Angelo was running around. It was good to see Rinoa, but I was dissapointed when I didn't see Squall anywhere. O ye of little faith! The entire game I had only heard the "Crystal Theme" only during the Game Over scene, which was dissapointing, but the game's final surprise was a scene of Rinoa and Squall on a deck of the Garden with the "Crystal Theme" playing. I think I flooded the room when Squall actually smiled. Seeing that come out of him after what an ass he was at the beginning of the game gives one a huge sense of accomplishment. My only problem with the ending? No stars! Oh well, I'm a nostalgia buff but things have to change sometime!
Final Thoughts- With the announcement of Final Fantasy 9 just slightly over a month away, it's just a matter of time before this all begins again. The hype, the agonizing months of waiting, the coverage, and that's just us! Think about all the developers! FF is more of an experience than a game, and it's all thanks to the people at Square. Sure, we all makes mistakes, (FF7), but the important thing is that you learn from mistakes and correct them, (FF8). Who knows what experiences they'll have in store for us in the future!
10/18 SOS recently shot down IGN's report that CN might be working on an all anime channel. Oh well. However, they did confirm that CN will be working on obtaining new Sailor Moon episodes. Cool. It will be quite interesting to see how Neptune and Uranus are handled. They also reported that DBZ is currently rated as one of the top 50 cable programs! Wowzers. Also, there's that thing about Gohan's original voice actor returning. I personally think it's baloney and cheese on rye, plus my suspicions have been verified by a source. The voice on EX's site was supposedly done by a fan who will remain un-named. Besides, why would only one member of Ocean Group return. If it's true, I apologize in advance, but if it's fake, don't say I didn't warn ya. Well, anyway, see you next update!
10/13 ......Wow....this was a surprise. According the SciFi IGN, Cartoon Network is in the process of making an all anime channel. Cartoon Network recently discovered, (and in some cases created), the popularity of Japanese anime, and decided to bank on it by putting a group of anime together on one station. Although the deal is not set in stone, this Cartoon Network "spin-off channel" is just one of several. One channel will showcase Hanna Barberra cartoons, and one will air only Looney Toons. Sci Fi IGN reports that Tenchi Muyo, Gundam Wing, (which has already gained a place in Toonami in 2000), and possibly Rurouni Kenshin seem to be likely candidates for programs on the station. Of course you can expect DBZ, Sailor Moon, Ronin Warriors and Robotech to be on the line-up. If this turns out to be a reality, then the future of DBZ on TV looks even better than it already does since it is currently one of the most watched shows on CN. Sailor Moon might also get some new episodes created, and the three movies might air on TV. Keep in mind, that these are still early, but reliable, reports, anything can happen. Lets hope CN can pull this off.
Skitz is having some space trouble with his site. So just hang in there while he works things out. Coming next update, my editorial on Final Fantasy 8.
10/7 I've got some interesting an quirky news for you guys this time. First and foremost, Hosschibi alerted me of an article at Sega Web, we can expect a Dragon Ball Z game to crash land on the Dreamcast sometime in the near future. After reading Steve Harmon's interview with Gen Fukunaga at The Vault this should come as no surprise, and neither should the platform of choice since the Dreamcast is currently the most powerful thing we can get our hands on in America and the Playstation 2 is about a year away from crossing the Pacific. Will the game look great? I'm sure we can all speculate that it will, however, not all pretty games have good guts. For example, Blue Stinger. I rest my case. Even though it will probablly be a fighting game of sorts, it could also be an RPG if FUNimation does their homework, since many of the DB themed games in Japan were actually RPGs. At any rate, no details have been released at this point, except for the fact that it will be made, sometime.
Once again, thanks to Hosschibi who recently conquered Dino Crisis and informed me that the main character, Regina, was indeed voiced by Sailor Venus' English voice actor, Stephanie Morgenstern. And for any "Moonies" out there, (come on, admit it, you know who you are), the three subbed Sailor Moon movies are now for sale on video. In my opinion, the first of the three, Sailor Moon R: The Movie, is by far the best, and easily rivals some Dragon Ball material. S and Super S are a waste of time, but if you're a true fan, you know you're going to get them anyway.
Miseal Villegas was recently watching the credits of the Nintendo 64 game, Super Smash Brothers, when one of the names in the credits caught his eye. The name was Ryo Horikawa, the character was Captain Falcon. Horikawa, better known for his role as Prince Vegita, and other DBZ voice actors have often lent their talents to various video games and other popular anime. Toshio Furukawa, the voice of Piccolo on DBZ, has also done some characters on Sailor Moon, and voiced the character Undan in Tobal No. 1. Touru Furuya, Yamucha, provides the voice of a character in Sailor Moon known as Mamoru. American fans would know him better as Darien Shields. These are only a few of the many many many roles these talented actors have filled. See if you can find some.
Last but not least, I'd like to state my opinion on the DBZ episodes on Cartoon Network. Kudos Cartoon Network! Excellent job! I may still not watch the show because the dialogue sicken me, but the folks at CN are apparently doing everything within their power to show DBZ in as much of an uneditted form as possible. I was willing to put big money down that the scene in which Nail has his arm "removed" by Freeza would be taken out, but lo and behold, they showed it in MOST of its original gory....er...glory. Indeed a closeup of blood squirting out was removed, but who cares! The fact that they've come this far is commendable! I don't intend to list everything that's editted on the CN version, (for that, head over to DBZ: The Third Season), but I will point out something I thought was particularly funny. Did you happen to notice the crab that was crawling on Vegita when Freeza went Moses-style? Did you ever wonder what happened to it? Well, Freeza picks it up and takes a bite out of it. Mmmmmm, rawwwww craaaaab....
10/1 According to the word on the street, (See also: Skitz AKA THE MAN) is that DBZ Movie 4 will be subbed prior to the release of the episodes on DVD. And as I speculated before, there will probablly be Japanese BG music with the English or Japanese voices selectable, as well as the FUNimation BG music with Japanese or English voices. More on these stories as they develop.
9/27According to his recent interview with Steven Harmon, (founder and maintainer of the popular DBZ site The Vault), Gen Fukunaga publicly revealed that a subbed DVD version is indeed something that will be available in the near future. This supports Skitz's original report of this several weeks ago. Other individuals such as Brian Real have known that FUNimation was in the works of doing subbed DBZ on DVD for a few months now, but Skitz was able to beat them to press with the stunning news when he received a scoop on the subbed DVDs from a source which gave him permission to print it on his site. This news is obviously very exciting as many fans will now get to hear and see original DBZ. Gen claims that the "hardcore fan base" is currently only a "niche market". While true, hopefully this new release will win many fans over to the "hardcore" side. As I previously reported, VHS version were/are not being allowed by Toei. Which is fine by me since the DVD will provide clearer sound, picture and wonderful options such as viewing the episodes in subbed and dubbed formats. I'm going to hypothesize that there will be three possible outcomes. The first would be a subbed version with the dialogue in its original format and the original BG music. If this occurs, then "hardcore" DBZ fans will have found their nirvana, seeing as FUNimation currently has plans to complete all of DBZ, as well as work on DB, and possibly GT at a later time. The second outcome would be for the subbed dialogue to remain the same, but to continue using FUNimation's BG music. If this is the outcome, (and I doubt it will be), tough luck kids. I can live with FUNimation's music as long as the voices and dialogue remain the same. The third outcome would obviously be FUNimation's or Toei's BG music with changed dialogue. This would be a tragedy since all we would be gaining is the characters' original voices, but remember, I'm ONLY listing best and worst case scenarios here just to prepare you all. In my personal opinion I have faith in FUNimation and I believe they will work with the "hardcore" fans' interests in mind.
In other news Chrono Trigger for the Playstation is near completion, and the new 22 minutes of drawn animation by Toriyama's Bird Studios look excellent. Sony spoke out on a US release of the CT "remix" calling it a likely possibility. If they don't release it here, import the game anyway :-) !
Have any of you played Dino Crisis yet? I played the game for about 5 seconds, (I just wanted a taste of it, I'm still working on FF8), and Regina's voice sounded exactly like the North American voice of Sailor Venus from Sailor Moon. If any of you have beaten the game yet and have seen the credits, see if you can spot Regina's VA's name.
Oh yeah! About my e-mail address not being up. I'm still very busy guys and gals, (as you can see from lack of updates). If I were to receive my typical amount of e-mails now, I wouldn't be able to respond as I only check my e-mail once or twice a week now. But once my SAT2 classes are complete, (the last day is Oct. 6th), I can put it back up.
Oh duh. One last thing. To all the people who e-mailed me telling me about Ronin Warriors. Thank you, but I already knew. The day after I posted that original story, I checked listings and found its air date, I just neglected to add it as news. Bye!
9/12 Yes, believe it or not, am I still among the living. Now, before I explain myself, I'd just like to say that I am well aware of the fact that I have not actually updated any real content since The Complete Character Guide, aside from various news updates. Most of the time when sites start to fall behind on updates that means their maintainer(s) have lost interest with the subject matter, or the site. That's not the case. This site is FAR from finished, and I will continue to work on it as much as I can bit by bit, until it is complete. That being said, here's why I haven't been able to update.
One of my favorite sayings is, "Excuses are for losers". It's true. However, these aren't excuses, (well, most of them aren't ^_^). From day one I've always told you guys that my personal life comes waaaaaay before my site in terms of priorities, and lately, my life has been filled with time consuming events. With school now in session, that cuts down the time I usually take to work out images or little minor updates. All of my academic classes I am currently in are at Honors and AP levels, so my afternoons are consumed with lab write-ups, thesises and various other wondeful assignments. While I don't mind the work at all, it does take away any time I have to update the site after school. Which leaves night. That should be fine, right? Wrong. This year I've enrolled in the Princeton Review. A prep-course for the SAT and SAT2. The class runs four times a week for four and a half hours, allowing me time to get home and crawl into my bed at approx. 11:30. Once again, I don't mind it, it's just time consuming. The course will be finished in October, at which time my schedule should lighten up, and hopefully, my teachers will cool down the work-load. The last reason is an excuse. The Princeton Review is only four days a week, so what do I do on the other three days? ^_^ I warned you guys that I would be going into Super-Ultra-Hyper-Mega-Dork-Mode! Final Fantasy 8 consumes the other days now. Anyway, just to keep your little hearts at ease, I will still be updating news whenever something interesting pops up, (it only takes five minutes to do for crying-out-loud), but I probablly won't be working on actual until mid-October.
Now on to something you actually WANT to read about. As we all know, DBZ Season 3 will be starting on Cartoon Network tommorow...ummm....yay I guess, (for the time being that is). Please tell me what you think of the two new videos. I've heard some good stuff about them. Also, Skitz may have FUNimation's big secret. Supposedly, FUNimation is currently in the works to brings subbed DBZ to DVD. Hurrah. A while back I explained why DBZ couldn't be subbed on video, and while some people have called what I wrote "absurd", then they might as well tell FUNimation that since that's exactly what FUNimation told me. Also note I said subbed DBZ was "currently a dead issue". "Currently" can change on an hourly basis, and it's been weeks since I reported that. Anyway, this is GW signing off. Till next time!
8/27 Lets review. First the Season 3 release date was September 16th. Then September 15th. Then September 6th. And now September 13th. Bleck, what a mess. On that day, two new episodes will be airred. The statement at the Toonami section of CartoonNetwork.com states, "...from that day forward we shall bring you our next installment of Dragonball Z". This makes it sound like they will have a new episode every single day, until the end of the Garlic Junior Saga, (where Season 3 will be ending). That's impossible, unless of course, FUNimation has been holding out on me, and they have all of the episodes done already. And if you've seen the awesome commercial for "The Second Coming", it only shows clips from the first batch of episodes. So I doubt there will be a new one every day, but hey, anything's possible in the world of DBZ. The reason for the delay? I'm just guessing, but I'm pretty sure it's so that Cartoon Network can receive FUNimation's newest block of episodes, but I'm just speculating.
In other news, rumors have arisen that Ronin Warriors will be joining Toonami and replacing Johnny Quest. Sounds cool right? Well yeah, it is, but just remember, it's only a rumor.
Mucho Importantante! I updated my FAQ a bit, so please read through it when you have a sec. That's it for now, later!
8/24 The world of Dragon Ball Z News has been pretty slow lately, (although my informant at FUNimation promises me that the, "big news", she hinted to a few weeks ago is, "almost certain", so in the near future something big may happen), so I figured I might just give you some FYI tid-bits. First of all, FUNimation's web-site maintainer has expressed interest in taking Dragon Ball Z.com in a new direction. While the current interface is pretty darn good, many people have had problems with its loading time. That problem may soon be of the past. If the site is re-designed, it will incorporate Macromedia Flash, a program that works wonders with the look and feel of web-sites. For a test of what it can do, check out this site Balthaser.com. It's more like watching a movie than looking at a web-site.
If you go to your favorite fansub site, you may no longer be able to order from them. I was informed several weeks ago by Adrian Saavedra that our friend Brian Real made a site to be viewed by FUNimation that listed and ripped apart all of the well-known fansub sites. (Although Adrian's original letter, which he only sent out to a few people, is relatively short, he second is rather lengthy and is almost an editorial of sorts. You may view it here. Real, of course, listed my site at top, (even though if he was going in any type of alphabetical order, it would have been at the bottom), and he also accused me of stealing information, images, etc. from his and other sites. (After I read that part, it took me about a a minute to calm down from laughing so hard. The fact that I would steal info. or images from other people's sites is absurd. You all know how I detest stealing other people's work). Once again, Brian brought up the fact that I use "vulgar" images, and true to form, failed to make any mention of the image of Gohan urinating on a sign that reads "Censors", but I guess, "the finger" is far worse than a form of excretion. He also claims that I led several mailing campaigns against FUNimation, urging them to sell DBZ to another company. I'm not quite sure what he meant by this since I never did that, but oh well. The page which he made can be viewed here. Here comes the interesting part. Although Brian listed sites that he has personal vendettas with, and the like, he failed to mention the actual fansubbers. And while I'm very glad he didn't, since the fansubbers are currently America's only chance of getting all types of Japanese products in their original context, (like the seizure inducing episode of Pokemon ^_^), it just goes to show that Brian is not interested in helping FUNimation at all. If he did, then the actuall subbers would have been first on the list. Brian simply appears to be sucking up to FUNimation, which is a shame, but oh well, what're ya' gonna do? Supposedly, FUNimation has begun sending out legal warnings to fansubbers via mail, and I've seen a scanned copy of the letter, but I'm not sure of the validity of that particular letter, however, I'm sure FUNimation IS sending them out. I haven't received one, nor will I. Why, you ask? Well, many of you think that Brian Real and FUNimation forced me to close the DBZ Dimension. That's not true. Neither Brian Real or FUNimation were the cause of my shutting down the DBZ Dimension, (although Brian would like to think he was as he expressed in his editorials). I haven't addressed the issue since I didn't think any of you would really care. But I was wrong. I received tons of mail from you guys asking where it went, so I added it to my FAQ, and for those of you who still don't know, here it is. Early this summer, I actually shut down the DBZ Dimension for personal reasons. Coincidentally, two days later, I received a letter from my informant at FUNimation, (the very same person who would have seen Brian's page listing all of the fansub sites), and she asked me if I intended to open the DBZ Dimension again since FUNimation would soon be taking legal action against fansubbers. I told her that I did intend to open it up again in the future, but if she wanted me to I would leave it closed, which I did without her asking me to. She thanked me for making my decision, and obviously holds nothing against me for ever owning it, since she continues to inform me of the latest developments at FUNimation. So that's the story why the DBZ Dimension is closed. I was not forced by anyone, I did it of my own will. Sorry Brian. While I'm on a roll, a couple people think its a big deal that Real is able to talk to Gen Fukunaga. Guess what? It's not. When DBZ began repeating in it's first season, I called my local TV Station that carried DBZ. From them, I got the number of FUNimation's offices out west and from there I was able to get the number of the offices of Gen and Cindy Fukunaga. I do not want to put up Mr. Fukunaga's number since I'm sure many of you would not be mature about talking to him, and it would be an invasion of his private space, but for those of you who might want to leave him a message, or let him know a quick opinion, it's not the hardest thing in the world to track him down.
Now, I'm sure you'll eventually be reading this Brian, and before you flip out again and start callings names, etc. let me just remind you that I said I would merely defend myself when attacked. I hold nothing against Brian Real, although he seems to have an awful lot against me for a statement I made that didn't name names, and didn't even concern him, (he never bothered asking if it did, one day I just received an e-mail from him out-of-the-blue accusing me of so many awful things, you'd think it was blasphemey). So Brian, please feel free to continue your one-sided campaign against me. It makes no difference to me. I don't wish you any ill will since you've done nothing to anger me, or hurt me, but I will respond to any form I'm attacked in. Thanks! That's it for this update!
8/17 Hello everyone! I have returned from two wonderful weeks of vacation in Cape May, New Jersey and I've got the tan to prove it! Well the summer is almost gone, (for some of you it already is ^_^), but I still have two and a half weeks left. Unfortunately, don't expect to see any big updates or improvements. I'm still enjoying having some leisure time. I did want to finish up the Gokou Bio over the summer, but I just couldn't stomach working on that and the Character Guide at the same time, and as far as movies go, I did add the original releases dates of all of the movies, but no new summaries, however, a couple people who I know very well have written a couple TV Special summaries for me, so I MAY add them sometime. In other news, my main man Skitz from Dragon Ball Z: The Third Season has managed to obtain the true air-date of Season 3 DBZ on Cartoon Network. September 6th. According to an e-mail Skitz received from FUNimation, on September 6th starting at 3PM Central Time, two episodes of DBZ will air, finishing off Season 2, and after that, the first two episodes of Season 3 will premier. I think it's going to be comical seeing the character voices and BG music change almost instantly before our eyes, but oh well. Expect Cartoon Network to start some awesome commercials promoting it in the not-too-distant future. And speaking of Season 3, FUNimation has unveiled the next two videos. Frieza: Revealed and Frieza: Death of a Prince. Why does FUNimation put Frieza at the start of each tape? I dunno. I think it will be interesting if they get to the Buu Saga and have nearly 100 episodes worth of tapes with the word "Boo" written at the beginning of each one. This set is going to be released on September 2nd. THESE are the episodes to start watching! The last set of tapes were almost completely finished before FUNimation received the complaints about the dialogue, music, etc. so these episodes might be slightly better. If you've seen the original episodes, you'll notice that FUNimation's summary for the episode called "The Ultimate Battle" is wrong since the planet Nameck isn't "....turned into a deadly, lava-spitting war zone!", until Freeza sends his Death Ball to the core of Nameck. Oh well, such is life. No one's perfect. See you next update! OH YEAH! One last thing. I will soon be entering "Super Ultra Hyper Mega Dork Mode" during the month of September. With the release of the Dreamcast, Suikoden 2, Dino Crisis and some other game called....ummmm....gosh darnit, what was the name of it? French Fried Ate? No....uh, Final Fight 3? No, that's not it.... OH WAIT! Final Fantasy 8, that's right! Anyway, with the release of all of these things at once, I'm having trouble keeping my pocket protector in place. This September, I will log many happy hours seated on my butt in front of the TV, as I imagine many others will. Just letting you know. Bye!
7/30 I know, I know. I AM on vacation, (we're leaving early tommorow morning around 5 or so), and I know I said, "No more updates!", however, this morning I received an e-mail from my informant at FUNimation. Recently, there was an e-mail going around saying that FUNimation had all of the rights to DB/Z and even GT, and that they would be releasing all of it uncut. Guess what? It's not entirely true, and it's not entirely false. My informant assures me that FUNimation's goal is to eventually release all of DB and DBZ here in the states, and while the opportunity lies open to them to purchase GT, they still have soooo much DB/Z left, that to purchase GT at this point would be premature. Now, the age-old question is, "Why don't they release it sub-titled?". While I have pondered over this myself for a very long time, (since the three movies were released in subbed format), we finally have an answer. Toei, (the company that owns the Japanese rights to the anime), is not yet willing to give the rights of the Japanese voice track to FUNimation because the episodes were never released on a video format in Japan. The question arises, "So why were they allowed to use the Japanese voices in the three movies?". Because as most of us know, the movies were released on video in Japan. Surprised by the reason? So was I. One would assume that purchasing episodes would thereby bring everything along with it, but as you know, it's not good to assume. My informant at FUNimation also tells me that there is some type of new and, hopefully, exciting news that she may be able to reveal to me. Since the sub issue is basically dead until FUNimation can work things out with Toei, I'm very curious as to what it is. If I receive the news while I'm on vacation, I will try to update my site, but don't count on it.
In quirky news, a respectible Sci-Fi, Movie and Video Game conglomerate organization, (known as IGN), recently made a list of upcoming anime to be released on video through August to September in their Sci-Fi: Anime Section. On the list are two Dragon Ball Z DVD's, naturally, to be released by Pioneer on August 10th. Now, I'm going to go ahead and say it's a typo on their behalf, but the two DVD's are listing as being "sub/dub". This is nothing to get excited over, it's just.....quirky.
Once again, please don't e-mail me while I'm on vacation. Thanks. Later guys!
7/28 VACATION!!!! Two weeks of wonderful sand and sun in Cape May! (If you happen to be in the area, I can usually be found nightly at the large arcade near the event center. Believe me, I won't be hard to pick out since majority of my apparel is related to a certain anime that ends with a Z). Right about now you're saying to yourself, "So what?". Well, although I could access the Net via our lovely laptop, sometimes, you just need a break. Although I don't mention it here, I usually update the site, in one form or another, every day be it adding a piece of info here and there, or proofreading with the help of my buddy Steve Wong, I'm always working on the site in some fashion, and honestly, I just need a break! So while I'm gone, please don't e-mail me, (unless you want me to read it when I get back), because I get over 100 e-mails a day, and I haven't (and won't for a while), be able to respond to the e-mails I've received since Tuesday, because my family has been very busy with the recent death of my grandfather, and a happy new addition to our family, a 12 week old Miniature Schnauzer, (we're still thinking of names, but Gizmo seems to be what we'll call him since his ears weren't clipped). However, I did receive several requests from people to borrow my Attack List, Character Guide, etc. The only things that I allow people to take are my infamous Gotenks image, and Zarbon being blasted by Vegita at the bottom of my Main Page. You may use my various lists, guides, summaries, bios, etc. as sources to write your own material, but I ask that you not copy and paste what I wrote. I you do, then I will kindly ask you to remove what you took, and if you still don't comply, I will list your e-mail address on my site and have fans of my site deal with you.
In other news, the new videos are out. And the general opinion is that the voice actors have slightly improved, but the rest is still the same. The music still sounds like Mega Man VS Snake Man and the dialogue.....well...from what I hear, when Piccolo merges with Nail, he says something along the lines of, "After this is over, I'm going to charge you rent!". On a scale of one to ten on the Lame-o-Meter, that's somewhere in the thousands. And everyone's favorite "Next Dimension" makes a guest appearance. (FUNimation seems to think that they need to be consistant, but they couldn't be further from the truth). Honestly, how FUNimation could do the dialogue of the three movies SO well, and pull a 180 on the episodes is completely beyond me. I hear that one of the characters says, "piss-off", but a lot of people also thought Vegita said the "f" word in Double Cross. In review, if you didn't like the first set of tapes, avoid these like the plague until FUNimation gets their act together, and starts to give the fans what they're asking for. If I were to make a guess, I'd say by the end of the Freeza Saga, the tapes will be watchable. But maybe FUNimation will prove me wrong, (lets hope so).
While I'm not completely done with the Character Guide, when I return from vacation, I will delay the biographies again and begin a new section to let you know where, when and how to get your hands on DBZ goods like like original Japanese manga, toys, video games, the 10 Daizenshyu, cards, etc. I'm also going to need YOUR help when I begin. I'm going to ask you guys to send me the addresses, phone numbers, store hours, prices and your personal opinions on stores that sell DBZ and anime related material. You will of course get credit by having your name listed next to the store you give me the information on.
On a side note, if you happen to be an Austin Powers fan, then check out my friend Steve Re's Austins Powers Site. The site is not yet ten days old, and kinks are still being worked out, but soon it should be running at full speed.
Well, that about wraps things up my tomodatchi! I won't be back till Sunday in the third week of August, so try and stay out of trouble while I'm gone. Yes, you, I mean it! Stay out of trouble you hear! :) See you then!
7/23 Yes ladies and gentlemen, the day has arrived! My "secret section" is finally up! It's taken me over 50 hours of translation and typing, but it turned out great, (well, I hope it did ^_^). Please let me know what you think of it. In other news, a loyal DBZ fan, Shock Terminal is trying to work towards getting some Dragon Ball Z movies released in American theaters. Please contact him to find out how you can help. FUNimation's new tapes should be arriving at your doorstep any day now, so please let me know what you think of them after you view them. Later!
7/20 Skitz's incredible new site is open to the public, and it will amaze even the hardest nosed critics! However, even more amazing than his new site is the fact that he's the first to unveil the release date of the third season of DBZ on Cartoon Network! Check out his New and Improved Site to find out what it is! In other news, the new videos have been shipped and some people may start receiving them as early as tommorow, so I'll be expecting some critiques from you guys pretty soon. See you next update!
7/19 I know I said that I wouldn't be adding any more Chrono Cross news, but this is just too exciting to pass up. The Gaming Intelligence Agency has a stunning new report. Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross are somehow linked!! While I know that many fans were dissapointed that Toriyama wouldn't be doing character designs, I know that twice as many were dissapointed that the two games would be completely seperate. Well fear not! In the real end of the demo which was only recently discovered, Serge and his crew happen upon a certain inventor's house, an inventor who made a physical transportation device which thrust a certain princess into a certain time warp, who was then followed by a certain young fellow. That's right! It's Lucca's house! At first I was wary and wondered if maybe it just looked like it or something, but when I saw the picture I almost fell out of my chair. It's a perfect 3D recreation of her house! While in her house, you travel through a secret passage, and inside the passage, the walls are adorned with child-like pictures of certain heroes from a certain game, like a certain mechnaical robot, and a certain red-haired sword wielding boy and a certain blonde haired cross-bow shooting princess. Yep, it CERTAINLY sounds good! How much are the two games linked? Darned if I or anyone outside of Square knows yet, but they will obviously somehow be intertwined. This does NOT mean any of the old characters will even be appearing in the game. Lucca's house could just some place neat to visit, who knows. Since I'm usually pessimistic on these topics, I'd say there isn't a good chance of them showing up, but at least they appear to share the same world, which is by itself, very cool. Chrono Cross is also said to span different dimensions, not just time, so we'll see what develops.
On another note, my now infamous "secret section" is nearing completion and I hope to have it up sometime this week, but it will definately be up by next week. Unless something major happens, this will be my last update until I add my "secret section".
7/14 Just a few quick things. First off, Skitz informs me that the new FUNimation episodes will be slightly delayed. They will not be sent out July 15th, instead they will be sent out from the 19th to the 23rd. You can read more at FUNimation's site.
Second, I'd like to thank everyone who has sent their thoughts of kindness to my family and myself. We all really aprecaite it during this time.
Finally, another editorial has arisen, and this time it's far more readable. If you'd like to read it, it's once again in VegettoEX's Editorials. Also, although I don't normally do this, I'd just like to point out several things about the editorial. Brian says that he was "sparked" by, and wrote the article when I made comments regarding his site in an interview. While it wasn't an interview, (it was an e-mail actually), I did make some direct hits on Brian, but not on his site, and it was all in good taste. I didn't even need to use the word "crap". I would be happy to forward what I wrote in the e-mail to anyone that's interested in seeing just what it was that "sparked" the editorial. But you see, Brian is forgetting to mention that what I wrote was in response to a bashing of my site that he wrote and sent out via e-mail that was in regards to the shutting of my DBZ Dimension. And he's also forgetting to mention that a day or so before his editorial, he took part in a conversation at an IRC chat which bashed me, and my site. During the course of the chat, one person even impersonated me, and entered the chat as my name, and made fun of me by saying such things as, "Aaah! It's Greg Werner! Must kill!". (Many of their insults are in reference to the one time I visited that chat room over a year ago, and what's surprising is that although Brian claims I hold a grudge, these people seem to hold a pretty hefty one also since they remembered a handle of mine from over a year ago). Hmmm, and these are supposed to be respectable mature individuals? Might I add this was all done behind my back, so no one can say they were "just kidding around". If you'd like to read what Brian originally said about my site and have a transcript of the chat conversation, I'd be more than happy to forward you a copy of both. Also, I'd like to know why Brian seems to think that I have some incredible hatred for FUNimation. It's sad if he bases that on one image of Gotenks that I made. There was another image of Gohan urinating on a sign that said "US CENSORS" yet he made no comment on that. The maintainer of FUNimation's website knows my site well, and she's seen the Gotenks image, and thought nothing of it. I'd also like to know where Brian thinks I said that everyone should e-mail FUNimation and yell at them. I've always told people to send "firm, but polite" letters to FUNimation, and even wrote an editorial on it in the Forum at Dragonballz.com. If anyone e-mails FUNimation and sends them derogatory comments, then they did it of their own will. Brian also says that he intended the editorial to be directed towards me. If he wished to do so, he could have easily sent it to me via e-mail, instead of trying to take an underhanded shot at my site which he obviously wanted quite a few people to chance upon. (And as long as people insult my site for whatever their reasons may be, I will always direct attention to it). What puzzles me most is, since Brian's site is so popular, (which I'm not questioning), then why does he even bother, with a "Vulgar, sack of crap, stupid, arrogant, slow-witted, foolish, insulting", individual who owns a little site such as myself? Just food for thought. By the way, just a note Brian. My site receives on an average 2,000 hits per day, which is slightly more than the 500 you claim I get and the 1,700 you get on an average (I had 504,500 this morning and the number is currently 506,453, ((It rose 175 hits alone while I was writing this)). I don't like to compare hits, since I believe sites should be compared on content, but since you brought it up... And don't say that, "Greg must have a fun time hitting the refresh button", because I don't nor, does anyone who comes here. If someone is doing that, then they must have a pretty boring life since they are obviously doing it every single day. Anyway, this will be the last I write about anything written by Brian or anyone for that matter. I don't like to concern myself with trivial things such as this, (for too long that is ^_^). So if there's anything else written by anyone, I will simply draw attention to it, and won't comment on it, unless of course something in it is wrong. Oh, one more thing. Absolutely no one should have yelled at VegettoEX. He simply posted the editorial, he didn't write it. Leave him out of it. And I would like to formally thank Brian for his apology regarding his timing. It's much appreciated. Thank you.
7/12 The release of the new DBZ episodes from FUNimation is just a few short days away! If anyone wants to send me a quick little letter with their impressions of the new episodes, feel free to. I'd like to know if you think the voices and dialogue have improved. We are also a few short days away from the re-opening of Skitz Zero's site DBZ: Season 3. I have seen it, and I must say, it's by far the most incredible site I've ever seen. It's a MUST see. Anyway, on the lighter side of things, Brian Real of Toriyama.org has decided to vent his anger towards me by writing an editorial dedicated to a piece of "crap" (that's supposed to be me I guess). Anyway, if you want to read it, check it out at VegettoEX's site. (EX's new editorial system is awesome too, I hadn't seen it till now). It's ashame that 17 year olds these days feel the need to express their feelings in a fashion such as this, but heck, as you must know by now, NO ONE is more for freedom of speech than me, so enjoy it!
But most importantly, if you're a religious person, please say a quick prayer or thought for my grandfather who is slowly passing away. He is currently in the Friscan Oaks Medical Care Unit in New Jersey. His parents immigrated to the US from Austria when he was a boy before Ellis Island was even in effect. He worked at Westing House with my grandmother and in his life made 43 patents. In addition to that, he also worked on the Manhattan Project AKA the group that worked on the original atom bomb. He worked on the triggering system device. He turned 89 in June. Thank you, my family and I appreciate it.
7/9 My coverage of Chrono Cross will basically end here since it has no relation to Toriyama or DBZ, (that doesn't mean I'm not looking forward to it, it just has no relation to what my site is about). My first impressions from the pictures were, "Wow! This is REALLY different!", and it is. But in some ways it's also the same. Now to get a general idea of the game follow this simple recipe, 1 part Legend of Legaia (the battlefield), 1 part Final Fantasy 8 (what the characters look like), and 1 part of the original Chrono Trigger (the highly detailed screens) and you have Chrono Cross. It looks VERY different and appears to have no relation what-so-ever to the original Chrono Trigger story-line, like the Final Fantasy series, but to be perfectly honest, it just looks TOO good to dissapoint me. Anyway, I'm not here to give you the whole story, I'll leave that up to the pros at The Gaming Intelligence Agency. And enjoy the first screens and plot information.
7/7 Today I came across some bitter-sweet news at the Gaming Intelligence Agency. Chrono Cross, (the long-awaited sequel to Chrono Trigger), has finally been confirmed! A playable demo of the game will indeed be packaged with Legend of Mana, the release of which is just a few short days away, and the game itself will be in Japanese gamers' hands by Winter of this year (AKA December). Now, while the bad news isn't all THAT bad it is certainly a dissapointment. Akira Toriyama will not be doing the artwork for this game. To the average gamer, it doesn't really matter, but it's a shot in the face to DBZ/RPG fans everywhere. According to GIA, Toriyama severed ties with Square after he completed Tobal 2. The new artist is Nobuteru Yuuki whose works include Record of Lodoss War OVAs, X: The Movie, (from what I hear that movie is spectatcular), and various other works. So it does seem that Square has not just hired some no-name artist, which is a good thing, but we have to live with the fact that it ain't Toriyama, which is a bad thing.
News, news news. It just never seems to stop coming in. For the two or three of you who don't know, FUNimation's next videos are now available for pre-order and will be shipped on July 15th. I will not be purchasing any DBZ videos until FUNimation gets their act together, so if some of you would like to, let me know what you think of them when you get them. Fans of DBZ rejoice! There are basically two major Spanish channels which just about EVERYONE gets. One of them is.... I dunno. But the other is called Telemundo, and if you get Telemundo, (which I of course don't), then you now get uneditted DBZ five days a week in Spanish! That's right, Telemundo is now broadcasting DBZ episodes every week-day morning, in their uncut format. I've never heard the Spanish voices before, but people have told me they're a heck of a lot better than the English ones, (which really isn't saying much when you think about it), so check your local listings to see if you get it. Let's see....anything else. Oh yeah. There's a new Toonami coming, and it's quite frigging cool if I do say so myself. It's going to be airing 12AM to 4:30AM every Saturday starting July 10th. It will include ALL of the previous Toonami shows, including a new addition, the Power Puff Girls. Sailor Moon and DBZ will be just two of the shows to receive the honor of being aired twice during the four and a half hour time-span. Well, that's it for now boys and girls. Come back next time to see me pull a rabbit out of my nose. Hey, that's not a rabbit! Er, um.....You heard nothing!
7/4 First and foremost, happy fourth of July. Hope you have a safe and happy one. Okay, now first things first. The lyrics in the song, "Kyle's Mom is a Stupid Bitch", is NOT in refference to Dragon Ball. The words, "Super King Kame Hame Ha", are in refference to the old King of Hawaii by the same name. However, as for Cartmann flipping out, here's my personal opinion. Keep in mind I'm the first person to say, "No, that has no relation to Dragon Ball". Without a doubt, Cartmann's scene is definately Japanese anime inspired. The way the camera rotates and the lines that go across the screen are classic anime fight scene material. As for his hair, it doesn't change color, but it does stick up on end, (however so do many other characters' in anime). Cartmann names all of his attacks, which is definately reminiscent of Dragon Ball, but the same thing is also used in your typical every day anime. The only aspect that makes me believe that it was specifically DBZ inspired was the fact that he DOES have ki energy around him when he fires off his attacks, which is something that's pretty much only been used in DBZ. So what's my conclusion? Is it Japanese anime inspired? YOU BET! Is it a spoof on DBZ, Mmmmm, maybe, but only two people know for sure.
Lately I've been receiving a lot of e-mail from people that goes something like this, "When are you going to update!! I come to your site every day and there's nothing new! Do something!". If only they knew. I haven't updated because I'm hard at work on my "secret section". I've already put over 48 hours total work on it, and I'm still going to be working on it for at LEAST another week. So don't expect to see any surprising updates until my new section is up. But believe me, you're gonna LOVE it. I'll give you a hint. It's along the same lines as Fists of the Dragon. Later.
6/30 Before you get all hyper, let me lay out the scenario. I just finished running my mile and a half when I received a phone call from a friend down the street. In an excited voice he relates to me the news of how great the South Park movie is. Being slightly jealous due to the fact that I will not be seeing it until Friday, I continue to listen to him rattle off how filfthy the movie's language is, etc. Then he drops a bomb on me. "And guess what the movie makes fun of?". Expecting something semi-cool like Mallrats or some obscure movie or series that he and I are into I ask, "What?". He answers, "Dragon Ball Z.". After I pick the phone up off the floor the first words out of my mouth resemble something like, "HOWWHENWHY?WHATPARTOFTHEMOVIEISIT? AREYOUFORREAL? SOHELPMEGODIFYOU'REBSINGME.". This is what he tells me.
As you all know from the commercials, Cartmann gets a V-Chip installed in his head that prevents him from cursing. Near the end of the movie, the thing starts to malfunction. Cartmann starts spewing out profanity like there's no tommorow, and as he does so, energy starts to build up around him. Eventually gets, a KI around him! Then his hair stands up on end and turns a redish color. Meanwhile, by continuing to curse, he's able to gather energy and hurl it at whatever's around him. If that doesn't sound like a Super Saiya-jin from DBZ, nothing does. Keep in mind, I HAVE NOT seen the movie yet, and my friend may have been slightly excited at the time so some of it may be embelished, but he's a former Zidiot and one of the ONLY people who could rival my knowledge of DBZ so I'm pretty darn sure he knows what the heck he's talking about. Also, it's a known fact that Matt Stone and Trey Parker like Japanese stuff, so I wouldn't discount it. If you've seen the movie, let me know what you think, and I'll write my own opinion on the topic after I see the movie.
6/26 2nd update. The game "Chrono Cross" is now all but officially confirmed to be playable and packaged with Legend of Mana. According to Gaming Intelligence, posters are now adorning the walls of Japanese video game stores for The Legend of Mana, and the posters also list the playable demos available with the game. Among them was Front Mission 3, and Chrono Cross!
6/26 First of all, I'm really sorry that the picture I did for Chrono Trigger 2 really sucks, but I had to throw it together quickly. ANYWAY, new reports today at Gaming Intelligence propose that the long awaited sequel to one of Square's greatest accomplishments is indeed in the works. This game is of course Chrono Trigger 2. While Square has NOT formally announced the game's existance yet, they are expected to make a big announcement on July 14th, a day before the Legend of Mana is released, which COULD mean that the demo of Chono Trigger 2 is included with Legend of Mana. Current reports indicate that the name of the sequel could be "Chrono Cross", but none of this has been confirmed. Now for the best news yet. The greatest anime artist in the entire universe is said to be doing the artwork again! That's right! Akira Toriyama! An animation company has been doing some top secret stuff called "Animation of Toriyama Akira" and this secret project is supposedly all the art for CT2. While it hasn't exactly been confirmed if THE MAN HIMSELF will be doing the work, the work WILL be similar to his style, a la Dragon Ball GT. As more info comes in, I'll post it.
6/24 NOt much has happened lately. Some new DBZ toys were released, and the good news is that they're using the molds that were originally used for the Super Battle Collection toy-line in Japan which currently has 42 volumes. The toys don't move much, or do anything "cool" per-say, but they're nicely detailed and good for display. I haven't gotten a chance to look at the new toys in person, but they seem to be of a high quality. I should also mention for those of you who frequent China Town, there's been a recent strand of bootlegg DBZ toys in China Town. While the toys look fairly cool from a distance, up close, they're horrible and terribly cheap. The box is even a rip-off of the Super Battle Collection design, and the funniest part is that the toy looks NOTHING like the picture on the back.
As far as my site is concerned, I've made various adjustments here and there. I've also added a bunch of Sailor Moon videos to the DBZ Dimension. I will also be adding a TON of Sailor Moon S videos and a couple Dragon Ball episodes. That's it for now. Later.
6/18 Updates and great news. What more could you ask for? First I'll cover the great news. As many of you know, I'm running an on-going contest which gives the viewers of my site a chance to win free DB/Z/GT episodes and movies. All they have to do is write in to a magazine that's either anime or video game related and in their letter, include the URL to my site. Is it a cheap trick to get my site publicity? Well sorta, but more than that, I think it's just kinda cool having my site mentioned in a magazine or something big. Anyway, I myself have also been struggling to get some of my artwork published in a magazine. I've drawn countless pictures, and have sent them into all sorts of magazines. Well, this month, both the contest and my quest have reached their pinnacle. I received a letter from an old friend and expert on DBZ, (Spamdini), who told me that my letter and artwork was published in the new DBZ comic. I was quickly excited, but then I received a letter from another gentleman, (David Pann) stating that his letter had been published in the DBZ comic, giving my URL. The chances of a letter mentioning the URL to my site, as well as my art-work appearing in the comic at the same time were about as good as the chances of a Live Action Sailor Moon movie actually being made. So for a day I anxiously wondered what exactly was going on until I received the issue. HUZZAH! Oh happy day! In fact both David's letter and my letter and art had been published in the comic! Needless to say I'm still excited about it even now. You may see both David's letter and my art-work and letter in Part 2 Issue 7 of Viz's DBZ comic. Now, obviously I am not a "winner" and I receive nothing but the pure joy of having my work shown to the hundreds maybe thousands of people who take a gander at the comic. However, David is the man of the hour. He's receiving four DB/Z/GT movies of his choice and four DB/Z/GT episodes of his choice. So I just want to congratulate him, "Congrats David!".
Now on to business. As I said, updates galore. Well, sorta. I've added a bunch of stuff since my last update, I just haven't formally mentioned it yet. I put up the About Me section which is just a fun little autobiography-type-thing I wrote up in my free time. I also put my DBZ Chat back on my site, so that should make a bunch of people happy. And I uh.....I don't know, but I did a bunch of little fixer-upper around the site. Oh yes. Pardon me for one moment.
6/3 Happy Second Anniversary! While it's only been two short years, it's felt like a LOT longer! Most of you probablly don't even remember what my original site concept looked like, (anyone who does remember what this site looked like 2 years ago, please, lets just keep that a secret between you and me, okay? ^_^). Anyway, since I'm STILL in school, while many of you lucky little demons are running free, I can't do any sort of major updates or anything like that. Instead I decided to let you guys know what I will tentatively be adding to my site this summer.
First I'm gonna do some simple revisions. I intend to change the text in the Gokou Biography here and there so it flows better. That goes the same for the rest of my site. Expect to see little changes popping up as far as text goes.
Second, I will be making a seperate section for the Time-Line in Little Known Facts since it doesn't fit very well.
Third, I will be adding at least TWO NEW SECTIONS this summer. One will be a revision of a section I used to have up, and the second, well, it's a surprise, that I know many of you will enjoy. I've received tons of requests for a section like it, so I decided to make one. I may not be able to finish it over the summer since it's going to be very large.
Fourth, I am REALLY REALLY going to try to get the Gokou Biography done, at least the Fights section of it that is. Gokou VS 19 and Cell should be a breeze, but Gokou VS Buu is going to be a pain. However, the sooner I get it done, the sooner I can begin on my next Biography which will cover the life and times of my all time favorite hero/villain, Piccolo.
Fifth, I'm going to finish at least one movie summary over the summer. I have not decided which one it will be yet since I'm eager to do one with Brolly, as well as Janenba.
Well, that's about it! It may not seem like a lot, but believe me, it is! And of course, you can always expect updates concerning the latest news in the world of DB/Z/GT. Which reminds me.....
Our dear friends Adrian Saavedra has once again come through with an amazing announcement, DBZ is back in syndication! According to Adrian, DBZ is being shown on a UPN station in the Tampa Bay area, right along-side Sailor Moon and Pokemon. Pretty interesting, but it can only last so long since the station can only show repeats.
On another note, KEEP E-MAILING PIONEER! Responses are coming in that things COULD change and Pioneer may consider subbing seasons one and two of DBZ. Keep those letters pouring in! Don't forget to tell your friends and other DBZ site owners.
5/26 I've got some good news, some GREAT news and some REALLY GREAT news! The good news is, FUNimation is working on toning down some of the "goofy" dialogue. While this does not mean we notice any difference in the next couple of tapes, I've been told we will most likely notice a change in the style and attitude of the episodes over a period of time. Now, listen up everybody. This is important. Just because we write to FUNimation expressing our want for a complete direct translation, does not neccessarily mean we will get it any time soon. I've been assured that FUNimation is reading just about everything sent in their direction be it good or bad, but I've also been assured that this does not mean we will get a direct translation. Which is actually okay with me considering the following, the music will improve, the voice actors are becoming more familliar with their roles and will be fitting their characters' better, the "goofiness" will be toned down. I should add, that this does not mean you should neccessarily stop sending your opinions to FUNimation, but it also does not neccessarily mean we will get everything we asked for, besides, DBZ is uncut now, and quite honestly, that's what we always asked for.
Important note! DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES SEND FROTHING, ANGRY LETTERS! I'm sure many of you remember Sailor Moon was on the USA Network a few years ago. Well the USA Network canned Sailor Moon because they received too many nasty letters. The same COULD happen with DBZ on Cartoon Network, and if DBZ isn't on Cartoon Network, well, that just about eliminates everything we ever worked for. So if you're going to send negative e-mail, please present it in a mature fashion.
Now, that was the good news. Here's the great news! Now don't get too excited, but there's a chance for commercially released sub-titled DBZ in America! Now before you go nuts, let me explain the complexities. FUNimation was going to undertake the task themselves, however, the rights to seasons 1 and 2 of DBZ now belong to Pioneer Entertainment. So what can we do? I'll tell you what we can do! We're going to literally FLOOD Pioneer with positive e-mail for sub-titled versions of seasons 1 and 2 of DBZ! What I want you guys to send them is a positive letter expressing your interest in subbed versions of seasons 1 and 2 of DBZ. Tell them how badly you want it! Tell them how your poor little brother Timmy's last wish before he passes away is to see subbed DBZ! (just kidding!). But here's the important part. Don't forget to tell them you're willing to pay for it! In order for this to work, we need literally thousands of fans to mail them. (I'm completely serious). So please alert everyone from your friends at school to the mailman! Send out chainmails via e-mail telling people to e-mail Pioneer. Let other DBZ sites know about this plan. We need to form a huge DBZ conglomerate that's going to express our want for a subbed version of DBZ, JUST like we did with FUNimation in order to make season 3 possible. You can e-mail Pioneer here to let them know how you feel!
Here's the REALLY GREAT news! Now, this is not in concrete, but if all goes well with season 3 of DBZ and beyond, FUNimation may consider going back later on and subbing what they dubbed. This means we need to support FUNimation so that they can continue their work. Buy the episodes, watch DBZ20XL, send supportive letters to Cartoon Network, I really don't care what you do, just makes sure that it's positive and supports FUNimation for their hard work! Trust me on this, even FUNimation themselves see ALL of DB/Z being shown in America, however, in order for that vision to be realized, we have to work together! You with me on this? Good!
In related news, the next set of tapes are nearing completion and will be on sale at the end of June. I've been told by several sources that the new tapes are already in certain stores, (I should also mention that FUNimation is reaching new markets with the new episodes! Expect to see the new tapes for sale in your nearby Target, MusicLand, Best Buy and maybe even Wal Mart stores). The cut version of the new season will air on Cartoon Network at the beggining of this September.
5/24 I've specifically been asked not to divulge any details I've been given about the new season, but what I can say, is that things are looking good. I can fully assure you that FUNimation is definately taking all of our opinions into concern. Beyond that, I can' say too much. I can say this though. FUNimation is not offended by anyone's thoughts that may have seemed negative towards the new season. This does not mean you can e-mail FUNimation and just mouth off to them. E-mail them and politely state your thoughts and feelings on the new season in a mature fashion. Example, "I think the dialogue needs some work.".
I won't be starting the petition up again, because of the fact that the whole procedure is still being worked on. So, if you want to e-mail FUNimation head over to their INCREDIBLE new site Dragon Ball Z.com. The site is fully Java and filled with eye-candy. The pictures are great, (all uneditted), and there's even a cool forum. It's really an amazing site, so check it out at least once.
On a side note, I have to say that The Phantom Menace is one of the coolest movies I've seen in a long time, (Pod Racing or Darth Maul anyone?), the effects are mind blowing, and the sound shakes the theater. And the movie is actually even better the second time, (by that time you can actually pronounce half of the characters' names.). Anyway, as a side note, here's some interesting facts that some of you may not know.
1. Chancellor Palpatine actually becomes the Emperor whom Darth Vader later kills, (which makes the line, "We will watch your career with great interest.", oh so cool).
2. Darth Sidious is not listed in the credits. Its assumed that he and Palpatine are one in the same, but maybe not.
3. E.T. makes a cameo appearance in the movie!!! It's common knowledge that George Lucas and Steve Spielberg, (the director of E.T.), are good friends. In the movie E.T., Steven Spielberg had a kid dressed up as Yoda for Halloween. Now Lucas has paid him back. In the enormous room where all the leaders of the Universe are assembled on floating platforms, there are 3 E.T. creatures! They appear clearly in the bottom left hand side of the screen when the entire assembly is shouting, "Vote down!".
4. If you wait till near the end of the credits, a very soft remix of Darth Vaders' theme plays and at the very end, you can hear the world re-nowned, "Oooooo-Pah.", breathing of Vader.
5. It's rumored that Bobba Fett will play a role in the next movie. Whether he will have his awesome Mandalorian armor or not is yet to be determined, but rumors are flying that the awesome Jet Li seems to be the favorite choice for the role of the villain.
6. Qui Gon is absolutely right about Anakin. He DOES bring balance to the Force and he IS the "chosen one". Think about it. Good can't exist without evil, it's a balance. And not only does Anakin bring evil, but also brings good in the form of two children. Now what were their names again?
7. Warwick Davis, (best known for his role as Willow in the movie named.....Willow, ((come on, SOME of you must remember that movie, remember Val Kilmers' line, "Peck peck peck peck!!".)). He was also the main ewok that did most of the cool stuff in Return of the Jedi, and intereacted with Leia a lot. Anyway, he's Anakin Skywalker's green Rodian friend in this movie.
8. The projected date when all of this insanity begins again is roughly Summer of 2002.
5/22 My buddy Skitz alerted me of some interesting news. FUNimation made a small disclaimer in their store which states that certain videos shipped before May 21st may have the following problems: Shaky video quality. Backround noise. Mono sound.. This is great news as it explains why the quality of the sound was terrible. Even better is the fact that FUNimation will replace any videos that suffer from those problems. The videos that FUNimation will replace are:
The Sleeping Princess

Now all we need to work with FUNimation on is getting better music, and keeping the original dialogue.
Also, for your non-conformists, (all 4 of you), who e-mailed me complaining about how I expressed my opinions on the new tapes using extremely vulgar language and threats, buzz off. (Note to anyone who e-mailed me that differed with my opinion, but DIDN'T use vulgar language and threats: I enjoyed your e-mails, and read them entirely). It's a free country, and I'm allowed to give my opinion, and warn other true fans like myself so that they don't send $40 down the tubes. Just so you know, to date I have received 364 letters of support for my opinions, and only 4 letters from people who have threatened me and use words that would scare off a member of Hell's Angels.
5/19 .....I'm so dissapointed I don't even feel like writing about this but I'm going to since I want to give you guys a warning. Sigh. I'm going to be quite blunt. The new episodes suck....really badly. They're even worse than Seasons 1 and 2. "Why?", you ask? I'll explain. Are the episodes uncut. Well, yes and no. All of the content is still in the show. In other words, there isn't anything that's been painted over, and they left in blood and nudity. HOWEVER, the show itself IS NOT UNCUT!!!! FUNimation is still putting words into characters' mouths. For instance, in one scene, Gokou says to Baata, "I guess I'm so strong and fit because I eat healthy foods.". BULL!!!!! Gokou NEVER EVER EVER EVER said anything like that. Then Baata's "comeback" is even worse, "Well I hope you like my fist, because soon you'll be eating it!". Then later, Ginyu says that Freeza's henchman can become a member of the Ginyu Force since his other members were defeated, WHICH NEVER HAPPENED AND NEVER WOULD HAVE! There are tons of stupid comments too numerous to mention. Might I also add they don't curse at all, THEY CAN'T EVEN SAY HELL!!!!!
Then there's the sound. It's HORRIBLE!!!!!! It sounds like something out of a Mega Man game for Nintendo, and it was probablly composed by MIDI. And I'm convinced it isn't in stereo. I have a very nice stereo system, but it still sounds like mono.
What's next? Oh yeah, the voices. EVERYONE is going to hate the voices. The more and more I heard Gokou and Kuririn's voices I wanted to throw my shoe at the TV screen. What FUNimation did was, instead of starting from scratch and making up new voices for the characters, OR trying to make them sound like their Japanese counterparts, (gee there's a novel idea), they tried to make the new voices sound like the old voices. And as we all know, making someone sound like someone else just isn't possible, and will end up coming out just plain terrible. Remember that comment I made about Vegita's original voice a little while back? Well, I would rather have his old voice any day over his new one.
And this ladies and gentleman, was the final straw. I could have lived with all of the above problems, had it not been for this one thing. I was listening to the video when suddenly I heard Gokou say something that made me come really close to punching a hole straight through the wall. What Gokou said was, "Yeah, and when we get the Dragon Balls, we can can wish Piccolo and the other back to this dimension." That was it for me my friends. I shut off the tape, didn't bother rewinding it. I grabbbed the other tape, not even out of its plastic wrap yet and hurled them into the basement, hopefully never to be seen again. They are an embarassment, as well as a slap in the face, (especially to me since I was promised by FUNimation themselves they wouldn't be saying that again.). I'm sorry to say this, but season 3 is horrible, and you should avoid buying it at all costs. If you're going to watch DBZ, get the uncut subbed version somewhere. It's not worth supporting a company that can't keep promises or charges 19 bucks for one video. Avoid season three like the plague. But you know what, this proves to me, that I just need to work on my site all the more to educate you all in the TRUE way of DB/Z/GT! I'll try to work on my Gokou bio soon. Oh yeah, some good news is that I'm going to see Star Wars tonight! Yay! May the force be with you all!
5/15 Today I finally finished the Freeza Biography! It contains lots of new info, (if you've read it before, read through the whole thing again because I've made a bunch of changes). It also contains shot by shot pictures of Freeza's demise. That's about it. Oh yeah, I added a bunch of new videos to the DBZ Dimension. I added some Dragon Ball videos, and a bunch of Sailor Moon episodes. One more thing, FUNimation will be sending the videos Monday. You should have them in your little hands on Wednesday or Thursday.
