Anime Wins an Oscar!
Posted Monday, March 24, 2003 by Daniel Kurland
This is rather a huge achievement, especially since it shows how well America is accepting anime. Hayao Miyazaki's "Spirited Away" won last night at the Academy Awards, making this the first anime to ever win an oscar. The film was against "Ice Age", "Lilo and Stitch", "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron", and "Treasure Planet". Unfortunately, Miyazaki was not at the ceremony to give a speech because he was busy working on his next film, "Howl's Moving Castle".
