Dragonball Manga - Volume 1

The desert bandit Yamcha rapidly approaches on his hover bike, skidding to a halt next to Goku and Oolong with a menacing look about him.

He introduces himself to everyone in a cool manner, then demands either capsules or money if they want to live. Puar also introduces herself, a small little creature that looks rather like a stuffed toy. Oolong recognizes the name, and remembers that it's "Cry baby Puar", the person he always used to pick on at shape shifter school. Puar reveals that Oolong got kicked out for stealing the teachers panties.

Oolong denies the accusation but to little avail, as Goku laughs at the trademark feat of the pig. He then turns to the despicable thief Yamcha who reminds them about him stealing their belongings. Oolong suddenly remembers how strong Goku is, so he mocks Yamcha for a while, then tells Goku that he has to defend him and fight the desert bandit. Goku isn't sure why until Oolong reminds him that he'll kill them both otherwise, as Yamcha draws his sword and rapidly advances. During all this, Bulma is fast asleep in between all the trees, unknowing of what is going on.

Yamcha pulls back his sword, then wildly swings it towards Goku, but the little kid somehow manages to avoid by jumping out of the way. As he's in the air he whips out his extending staff and smacks Yamcha in the stomach with it, temporarily phasing him. Yamcha knows of the staffs origin though, and remembers the great martial arts master Gohan, who had a grandson who was taught the arts of fighting. He notes to himself not to let his guard down anymore. As Yamcha is speaking seriously, Goku whines that he's hungry.

Pleased at the competition, Yamcha charges forward, executing his fist of the wolf fang attack, managing to kick Goku right in the face as the kid is paralyzed with hunger. He follows it up with a series of rapid punches, each one pummeling the kid further. Finally Yamcha finishes off the attack with a powerful punch that sends Goku crashing through a whole series of trees. 

Seeing Goku's apparent defeat, Oolong is quick to switch sides, hailing Yamcha and pretending to be his disciple. Without warning he changes into a fly though, and attempts to escape, only to be slammed down by Puar turning into a huge fly swatter. Oolong reverts back to his normal form, and is about to hand over a capsule when Goku comes stomping out of a pile of rocks and rubble. He is incredibly annoyed, and mentions that he's very hungry. Yamcha just assumes he wants more punishment, and prepares to beat him up some more. He charges at Goku, but the young Saiyan has a trick up his sleeve.

Just as Yamcha attacks, Goku uses the 'Rock Paper Scissors' attack, where he meets Yamcha's fist with his own (rock), then does a double finger eye poke (scissors) and ends it with an open palmed punch (paper) which sends the desert bandit soaring backwards. Goku is struggling to continue due to his excessive hunger, but Yamcha is exactly the opposite, fuming mad and ready to cause mass main to the poor kid. Before any attacks can be thrown though, Bulma wakes up and moans at the amount of noise being created. It is then that she and Yamcha see each other. For some reason Yamcha almost feints upon noticing the girl, and he and Puar evacuate the scene, promising that they'll return. Bulma is disappointed to see him go, as she thought that he was good looking.

Back at Yamcha's den he is frustrated at how he can never speak to girls, as he is too scared of them. Puar is worried by this as they never manages to steal anything when there's a female about. They wait until night falls, then hatch a cunning plan.

Goku is now full with all the food he's eaten, and he's sitting next to Oolong. Bulma is in the shower getting a good wash. Goku explains to Oolong exactly what the Dragonballs are, and what they do with Yamcha eavesdropping. He hears everything and slyly grins at the prospect. He plans on wishing to be good with girls, so then he'll be able to steal off everyone.

Back inside, Oolong has hatched a plan of his own, feeding both Goku and Bulma some 'juice'. What they don't know is that it will make them fall asleep for a very long time. It takes effect on Goku immediately, and it does so on Bulma when she gets to bed. Oolong has 'plans' for Bulma, but they are interrupted before long.

Yamcha and Puar move in to find Goku sleeping, and no trace of Oolong. They realize that he must be upstairs, so Puar transforms to Goku and goes up to find him. Oolong spots the shape shifter and believes that it really is Goku, and begins to panic, knowing he's dead if anyone finds out he's up there with Bulma. Thinking fast he decides to transform into the lady herself. Puar arrives and says to Oolong that she needs to talk to him, with both of them not knowing about the others disguise. They walk outside for a while whilst Yamcha goes upstairs to get the Dragonballs. The transformations wear off after a while though, and Puar and Oolong realize who each other really are. Knowing her master is in danger, Puar goes and fetches him, and guides him slowly away as he is mesmerized by seeing Bulma.
