Gohan's
Vengeance
Chapter One: "Goku: the Death
of
Earth's Hero"
"He had always been a friend…a
son…heck, he was even my mentor," laughed Roshi, slightly. It
was he who was chosen to perform the funeral duties.
"I loved him like a son. I taught him things, he taught me
things. We shared a special bond, each subconsciously teaching each
other the many roads of life. Even as a small boy I saw maturity in
him that I never saw in any adult. And now, today, as we say our final
goodbyes…we must all remember this event as a day of rejoicing, not
sadness."
The he tilted the urn slightly, so that the ashes would flood his hand
and spill into the sea. He opened his other hand and the urn dropped
to the water below, and disappeared amongst the rocks and waves.
Goku's name was engraved on the urn. The piece on which his name was
carved, floated to the ocean floor, and sat there, facing upwards to
the sun, which shone on the earth that Goku loved so much.
"W-Why…" Gohan cried meekly. "Why, d-damn it? WHYYYY!!!"
He screamed into the evening air. His voice echoed into the forest, so
that Mother Nature could hear his pain and grieve with him.
In accordance to his Will, Goku wasn't to be wished back. Nor was he
to be called on for reconcilement of his friends. They were to forget
Goku, and move on. The universe was to rely on itself now, its
counterparts each harmonizing together. Goku knew when he wrote this,
that there would be death and pain; there would be evil reigning and
capturing the souls of the innocent, preying upon the weak and poor.
But that was life. Goku finally figured out that there would always be
war and sorrow; he could do nothing about it. No matter how many times
he saved the world, there would always be another opportunity for him
to save it again.
But he couldn't always do that. It wasn't the will of nature. The
universe was created to live on its own. And Goku could no longer go
on cheating death. He was gone forever. And Gohan knew that…that is
what ate him up the most.
"You OK, Gohan?" Krillin asked.
"Yeah," he lied.
"Well if you ever need me, as a friend to cry with, I'll be
there," Krillin said, fighting back tears.
"Thanks, man." Gohan said, now crying even more.
"Gohan? Let's go home, OK?" his mother told him, her voice
exhausted from crying.
They left, and Gohan lay down on his father's bed. His face was in the
pillow, smelling Goku's scent. Gohan knew that he would never smell
this scent again. He cried some more, and soaked his dad's pillow in
salty tears.
