Dragonball Z - Legacy of Goku 2 Review

Better than the original? Last year's hit GBA title Dragonball Z - Legacy Of Goku made a big boom for DBZ fans. But was it really that great? Well, the first one was ok, but it did lack in some major areas. Does the second offer the same old features, lacking in the same areas, only expanding in storyline? Hardly. Legacy of Goku 2 has shown some major improvements since it's previous version. Let's take a closer look.

Graphics
While the graphics are essentially as good, as the last one's, it's not much to awe it. It's somewhat better, and some of the animations are a little impressive, but like I said, nothing to awe it. You might even get a little tired of the animations. The flying system, however, is pretty good. One thing that I did like to see over and over. Some cool new special visuals going on here and there, but that's about all. A lot of the areas look pretty much the same, and the enemies are repetitive. Some more enemy skins would be nice. The skins that we did have were pretty good though. Not very detailed, but then again, it's a GBA game, so you can't expect too much.

Sound
The sounds were very good for the most part. The background music was catchy, definetly something I was humming in my head when I wasn't playing. I don't like how they mixed up some of the sounds though. For example, there are these things called Fly Pads. When you stand on one and press the A button, it flies you to a new location. The sound for takeoff in the game is the same sound as the sound in the show when someone goes Super Saiya-jin. And the sound when someone goes Super Saiya-jin in the game, is the same sound as the one in the show when someone is powering up. Other that those kinds of mix-ups, the game sounds are good, and the music is pretty good itself.

Gameplay
Here's where the game really earned it's points. The gameplay of the previous LOG somewhat lacked. In this game, it still lacks a little bit, but compared to last year's release, this one is much better. The fighting style in this game is good. It somewhat resembles The Legend Of Zelda series for the GBA. It's hard to fight against the main bosses in the game. I found Android 20 particularly hard. Once you get used to it, it's not too hard. Using KI attacks and going Super Saiya-jin was a little bit hard in the beginnig. Going Super Saiya-jin takes about 5 seconds, and for that 5 seconds you must not be touched or you will lose the Ki you used and you will not finish the transformation, and return to your normal state. So you have to run away from your enemy for a few seconds, go Super Saiya-jin, and then come back to beat him down. You can't stay Super Saiya-jin for very long either, which makes it a little less worth the effort. Still, going Super Saiya-jin is pretty cool. The Ki attacks, depending on which you use, take a couple seconds to charge up as well. It's harder to successfully pull one off because you have to remain untouched for about 3 seconds (it's harder than it sounds, believe me), and you have to be properly aligned with whoever you're aiming it at or you'll miss. But 5 characters at your disposal to use as you please is much better than the previous 1. This game was more broad in that sense, that you could choose your character, each which it's own attacks and such, and play through alot of the game with whoever you want.

Overall
Overall, this game kicks. It's got a good two or three days worth of play if you're a hardcore gamer and like to get through everything as fast as you can. The game comes with a few side quests such as 'Find the Nameks' and 'Find the Golden Capsules', each with it's own rewards. The Find the Nameks is quite rewarding, I liked that extra villain it provided. Although, it does kind of mess with the storyline a bit, but still, it's cool. Anyway, if you haven't already played this game, I suggest you do that. It's a great game, worth every minute of gameplay. Overall, I give this game a solid 8.5 out of 10. Until next time, happy gaming, lol. -Master Roshi
