Dragonball Z Collectible Card Game

Playtesting Groups…CCG Revolution?

Hello, I would like to start out this article by introducing myself. Online I am JDD3D0, Vater5B, or most recently Semajas. In real life I’m James. I’ve been playing CCG’s for about 3-4 years now and been playing the DBZ CCG since about a month after the Saiyan Saga came out. I got involved in the game due to my interest in Anime and CCG’s. I’ve worked on many websites and have been a moderator for Fanatics Gaming Network.

Now on to the main reason I wrote this article. A little while after this CCG first originated, a small group of 5 from Terre Haute, Indiana (?) got together and formed a playtesting group called the TH5 (You can visit their website at http://www.th5.org/). Their idea was brilliant. They each had a different playing style and by playing against each other could work on their weaknesses, they also put together a joint budget so they could get the cards they needed faster. A most Premiere events the power of this group was felt as their experience and large card pool proved extremely useful. A month or two down the road a group named the BH2 originated, after a couple weeks not much was heard about them again…

Recently, 5 of the world’s best players united to form a new group, “The Fanatics Demolition Squad.” They had a similar plan and hopes to take 1st at every Premiere event this year. but a day or two later, yet another group was announced, “The Sect.” This group made up of great players known to those who often times visit Fanatics Gaming Network  (http://fanaticsnetwork.com/) but not as well known to anyone else.

Now I propose a question, are these groups a great idea, or are they another thing that could tear apart a CCG for not so experienced players? Another thing I’ve been wondering is if these groups will be staying or just become another passing fad in the CCG world. Only time could tell.

*Afterthoughts* Now there is one other thing that I’d like to mention. Don’t trash talk a playtest group until you’ve actually played them. If you beat them down so bad it’s not even funny, do your best Brian Valdez impersonation, but don’t say jack otherwise. It’s not just annoying, it makes you look stupid.

For IQ’s Crew, this is James D. <End of transmission>
