...Your favorite Nintendo characters going head to head battle royale style...lllllllllet's get ready to rummmmmble!!!...
If you have a gamecube, then there should be no excuse to not get this game. This is THE game for Nintendo Gamecube, which will have you playing for months. Making a sequel to the 1998 hit on the Nintendo 64, Nintendo has crammed it's entire history into an amazing free for all battle. Playing as Nintendo's famous characters (such as mascot Mario and Link from "The legend of Zelda"), you face off against each other in 3D-Renditions of various stages from each character's games.
A NEW type of fighting game.
The control isn't like other fighting games. You press the joystick in a direction and press either A or B to attack. It may not sound like much, but each of the characters have their own unique abilities and combos, so that really makes it a free for all.
Many Modes of Play.
for those single player guys, there's still cool stuff to check out. First off, Classic mode (the style the first game had) doesn't have the same oppenents over and over, so you'll never know who you'll fight next. Added is Adventure mode, where you go from stage to stage taking on the smash bros. characters. Sometimes, you have to cross a field of enemies to get to them. If you like doing tasks, do Event Matchs. There are 51 in all, each in which you are specified to do a certain event. Sometimes you are automatically given a partner, and to unlock all events, you must get more hidden stages and characters (like this game didn't have hidden stuff!). There's also stadium, where you can do target test, a home run derby (hit a sandbag as far as you can), and multi-man melee's against those cheap wire frame enemies.
As for Vs. Mode extras (speaking of Vs. mode, best to save money to get 3 other controllers), they have "special" melee's, such as doing HP instead of the hit percentage and have the camera zoom all the way out. As for Stock and Time, they are joinned with Bonus, which you win by points on those bonuses you would get after a fight, and Coin, where you hit oppenents to pop up coins and collect the most. One huge cool feature is the tournament mode, where you can do winner/loser out, or do a real torunament up to 64 players. Item switch is available at the start, and if you don't feel like taking on your friends, take on the CPU (warning: they're are cheaper then before).
Rewarded for Excellence.
Finally, there are the trophies. 291 in all, they literally have Nintendo's history in one big museum (and then some!). You collect most by smash coins (not the ones in Vs. mode), and some by completing certain things. Ok, I think I've said enough about Smash Bros. Melee. If I kept going with everything else, you'd still be here and not playing it.
Overall Scores:
Number of players:1-4 (tournament mode can go up to 64)
Believe me, it's more fun with more people.
Online play?: No.
Gamecube has no abilities as of now, but man, this game going online? A person CAN dream.
Overall Rating (1-10): 10
This game is just so perfect. Graphics are perfect. Controls are perfect. This game has a 100% replay value all over it.
