The next morning he went to class on schedule and sat through a mind-numbing course on astrophysics. The rest of his day progressed normally. He told no one of his power leap, and no one would have listened to him if he had. Even the weakest Namek got more respect than him. At least they knew his name. From overhearing conversations in the halls, some people had felt a massive power late in the night, but they could not pinpoint its location. Most dismissed it as a freak reading, their senses playing tricks on them or whatnot. No one even considered that it was him. This suited him just fine. He was going to put on a little show today in the arena. At last he would show them so that he and his species could be validated. The arena opened at 3:30, just as it always did. The trainees filed in and donned the combat uniforms of the Academy, which were skin tight body suits covered by thin but extremely tough armor on the legs arms, chest and back. The armor was designed to deflect most of the energy of a blast, whether its coming from a person or a weapon.
Sabre strolled in, but he did not don the suits as everyone else did. He simply wore his white pants and a black sleeveless T-shirt he was known to always wear. Some thought they were the only clothes he owned. People began to pair off to warm up but Sabre stood in the middle of the arena alone. He was watching all the others. This fascinated Resa, and she approached him.
"I haven't seen you in here in a while. What are you doing?"
"Who do you think is the strongest in here?"
"Well, everyone knows that. When the coaches aren't here, its Danja."
He just nodded his head. Danja was a Sayjin who was born with an abnormally high power level. He had been growing stronger every day since, and according to scouter readings his power peaked at 195,000,000.
"Are you feeling okay?"
He smiled. "Yeah, I'm fine. Really, I'm okay."
"Alright, you wanna start?"
"Sorry Resa, but today I'm going to fight with Danja."
"What?" she cried, "That's insane! He'll kill you! You know he doesn't hold back, even I don't fight with him!"
"Don't worry about me, I can take him."
"Have you gone completely mad?" she screamed. She grabbed hold of his shirt. "HE WILL KILL YOU!"
He took her hands in his and looked into her worried eyes.
"It's okay, Resa. You'll see. I think you'll be surprised. I'll be fine."
Before she could respond he shot to the top of the arena.
"Danja!" he shouted. The Sayjin's head turned to the addresser. "Hey, tough guy, today you're gonna fight with me."
The whole arena was stunned. It was the rule of the academy that once a challenge was declared, it could not be recanted. Danja had never declined a challenge. Ever. Danja looked up at Sabre and shook his head. He floated up to where he was hovering and faced him.
"You are aware that I may kill you. I don't want to, but it may happen."
He did not take this as a threat. He was fully aware of Danja's fighting record. He had a history of accidentally killing his opponents in the heat of battle.
"Don't worry about me."
"Are you sure you want to do this, human."
"Yes, monkey boy, I am."
Danja's calm features twisted into anger when he registered the insult. He did not like his race to be insulted.
They bowed, symbolizing the beginning of the fight, and Danja assumed his fighting stance. He powered up to SSJ in a few seconds, and his hair flashed gold, his eyes turquoise. After about two minutes he finished his final power boost. The scouters built into the arena read him at 196,021,235
Sabre began his power up, knowing full well he could have done it in an instant, but chose to make it showy. He clenched his fists and began to roar. His power rose slowly, he wanted to make it look like nothing about him had changed. Once he peaked at his previous max of 45,000,000, he stopped. The crowd below looked on in awe. They all fully believe that he was committing suicide. Sabre then looked up at Danja.
Danja spoke first. "That's it?"
"Actually, no."
A look of surprise crossed Danja's face as Sabre began to push his power level even higher. The scouters around the room read his power level rocket to 105,000,000. He did not slow down. He once again felt the power that he knew would be more than enough to beat Danja. His hair began to lighten, then flash white. His eyes once again disappeared and were replace with glowing energy. His muscles exploded with ferocious intensity as they filled with raw power. The scouters now read his power at 200,043,108. Sabre stopped his power up, realizing that it was only a fraction of his max.
Danja, along with the trainees below had looks of disbelief on their faces. No one could believe that this human could have gotten so powerful.
"This is some sort of trick, it has to be!" an exasperated Danja shouted.
"Your welcome to find out." Sabre taunted
"I think I will." Danja responded through clenched teeth.
The battle commenced. The two combatants blurred and began to exchange blows. Danja let loose a flurry of punches, all of which Sabre blocked. The blows were so powerful that shockwaves of compressed air rocked the arena. No matter what Danja tried, Sabre evaded it. He sent a roundhouse at the human's head but he stopped it with an open palm. Frustrated, Danja switched to ki attacks.
"Reeeeessssssnoooooonaaaaaaaa!" he shouted, sending a massive, triangular blast at Sabre's head. He took the blast full on, and the arena was rocked with an enormous explosion. The spectators below shielded their eyes from the blinding golden light and the ensuing shockwave. Everyone was sure that that Sabre was now dead. Resa fell to her knees and began to cry.
Then the smoke cleared. Something was odd. Sabre was floating in the air with a giant smile on his face, trying his hardest not to laugh.
"Ow" he said.
"Tha... that's impossible" stammered Danja.
Sabre responded by punching him in the face, breaking his nose and a few other bones and sent him halfway across the arena. While Danja's nose ran with blood, Sabre shot around behind him and kicked him in the base of the spine. Danja forgot about the pain in his nose. As his body arced, Sabre reappeared in front of him and overhead smashed him to the ground. His body left a crater.
After he hit, the arena was silent. Danja's hair went from blonde back to its normal blue; his eyes from turquoise to orange. Resa looked up, her eyes still wet, not believing what she was seeing. Sabre dropped back into the middle arena with the grin of that of a child on Christmas morning. Everyone stood around not sure what had just happened was real. But he had done it. He now had what he'd always wanted: their respect.
