-Subject: Anime used as Marketing Strategy in Australia
Posted on Friday, February 28 2003 -=- By {-SzR-} drop me a line
-According to this article found at SMH It states that marketers are using Anime to help promote sales of Food products. The two toys being used are Beyblades and Dragonball Z. The article reads as follows:

It's the 21st-century version of the spinning top, and children can't get enough. Each top has unique qualities, based on characters from Japanese-style cartoons, which go into battle with other tops. In typical 21st-century style, it's a marketing battle too. These tops are given away in potato chip packets, in a move which encourages boys aged five to eight to keep buying the same brand of chips and build up collections (UNREAL).

In Twisties and CCs, Smith's Snackfoods is giving away Tazo Topz, which feature the dragon-like characters from the Beyblade cartoon. Their rival, Snack Brands Australia - which makes Thins, Samboys and Cheezels - uses characters from another animated series, Dragonball Z.

The small, plastic tops - about the size of a 20 cent piece - follow the massive success of Beyblade's rip-cord spinning tops.

The chip manufacturers have seized the opportunity to use this craze for their marketing. But with children always changing fads, the manufacturers must constantly reinvent their collectable ideas.

-Subject: Daizenshuu EX DBGT Fan Contest
Posted on Thursday, February 27 2003 -=- By {-Izlude-} drop me a line
-Yup that's right, good ol Vegetto EX is bringing us two contests. The first one you have to sing your own version of the original DragonBall GT theme, "DAN DAN Kokoro Hikarete 'ku". Vegetto EX has lyrics to the song in English and Japanese, PLUS an downloadable karaoke version of the song. Sounds pretty good, I suggest you talent starved fans take some interest in this one, try rapping to Dan Dan! I dare ya!

Now the second contest I think may actually get in alot more entries, since it's graphic design based. You have to make your own DBGT DvD covers in anyway you like. I already submitted mine, I hope you fans out there think about giving it a try has well!

Vegetto EX has placed up some very nice prizes for the Winner and Runner up. If you wanna check out for more on both contests, along with the offical rules, just head on over to Daizenshuu EX's Contest Page

Good luck to all who are entering!

-Subject: Premiere date for TRIGUN on Cartoon Network
Posted on Wednesday, February 26 2003 -=- By {-TheQuestion-} drop me a line
-The following is from Animation Insider:

According to tentative schedules released by the network, fan-favorite anime series Trigun premieres on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming block March 31. In addition, Inuyasha returns to the block at 12:30 a.m., while Lupin the Third temporarily leaves the block.

Here's the new tentative schedule, effective March 31:

11:00 p.m. - Futurama
11:30 p.m. - Home Movies
12:00 a.m. - Trigun
12:30 a.m. - Inuyasha
1:00 a.m. - Cowboy Bebop
1:30 a.m. - Reign: The Conqueror

I personally cannot wait until Trigun makes it's first apearance on Cartoon Network. I am still yet to see the series but from most of the opinions I get I conclude that it is a good series. With the recent airing of Evangelion, Nadesico and soon to be airing of Kenshin on Toonami, I think it may be a matter of time before we see Trigun on Toonami. For all the heat they take with their edits, Cartoon Network has most certainly done it's part to bring anime into the forefront of American Media.

-Subject: Lupin the Third To hit the BIG SCREEN
Posted on Tuesday, February 25 2003 -=- By {-SzR-} drop me a line
       -
Lupin the Third is about to make a Hollywood debut. Gerald R. Molen, producer of the Oscar-winning Schindler's List, has acquired the film rights and is determined to make the story of Lupin a box office success.

"As far as whether or not we know it will be a success, no one ever knows,"

Molen said Tuesday while in Japan to meet the comic's artist, Kazuhiko Kato, and start preparatory work on the film.

"We'll go home from here with a lot of wonderful ideas and a lot of enthusiasm and go to work,"

he told reporters at the Foreign Correspondents Club in Tokyo. Lupin the Third, originaly a comic/Manga, is popular in Japan and for that very reason it inspired a TV cartoon show and five animation films. Lupin could easily translate into the latest big-screen heartthrob action hero, much like Spider-Man. Kato, Lupin's creator, said he would leave artistic control to the film professionals and insist on little else than keeping the five main characters.

"I'm so thrilled I could fly, I want the film to continue as long as the 007 series." Kato said.

Well seems more and more that Anime is becoming recognized as a lucrative business. Disney look out Spirited away gave you a run for the money looks like you guys aren't the only ANIMATED studio to make movies featuring cartoon characters. Disney is a monopoly no more.

-Subject: FUNimation responds to Fans
Posted on Tuesday, February 25 2003 -=- By {-SzR-} drop me a line
-FUNimation is still in negotiations with Cartoon Network over the showing of Blue Gender, but say it will be done talks very soon and agree that Blue Gender will be joining the Adult Swim line up.

FUNimation is currently having a NEW karaoke contest on their website where fans can create their own version of the theme song (translation, FUNimation had gotten enough hate mail from fans so now MAKE YOUR OWN SONG). Winners will be included in future DVD releases as extras. The DVD will also feature the original Japanese openings and closings with the original music.

Recent news about the redubbing of the first 53 episodes of Dragonball Z are confirmed by FUNimation. Theyn will be handling the Dub in house with the current cast of actors reprising their roles. SzR Notes: We posted this about 3 weeks ago, so yeah you heard it here first

-SPIRITED AWAY
-Release Date: April 15, 2003
  - So what the hell is this thing that won soooo many nominations and awards? Glad you asked, so I better explain. The girl on the cover of the DVD is Chihiro. Her parents and her have just moved to a new town, but get lost along the way. Her father ends up taking a wrong turn into what appears to be a deserted amusement park. While investigating, Chihiro's parents find a food stand and beginning eating, but get turned into giant pigs! Chihiro's family has stumbled across a spirit vacation resort, a place forbidden to humans. Chihiro is forced to work in this resort or her parents will be killed. However, there is a lot more to this story, and I cannot simply sum it up here in this small space, so I strongly recommend you pruchase this DVD when its hits stores. There is even some Oscar talk about this movie. For more info on this anime just click Here and read up. Pre-order! your copy today @ my favorite store = sunCOAST.
