Gundam Wing

One of the more recent Gundam stories, Gundam Wing is the tale of five teenages from space colonies that orbit the Earth attempting to liberate their own colonies from the oppression of the Earth-Sphere Alliance. Each is sent with a mobile suit (giant humanoid robot) made of a material known as Gundanium alloy. When the main character, Heero Yuy, lands on Earth in his Gundam, Wing, he runs into Relena Darlian, the daughter of the Vice Foreign Minister of the Alliance, who hopes for peace with the Colonies.

At first, Heero and the other Gundam pilots don't know of the existence of the others, and they wind up fighting. Heero spends an episode or two fighting Duo Maxwell before they start working together. Quite a contrast to Heero's suicidal, take-no-prisoners attitude, Duo is a pretty laid back kind of guy, despite the fact that he calls himself the god of death.

Trowa Barton and Quatre Raberba Winner also team up against the Alliance. Eventually, all the Gundam pilots are united, and they unceasingly attack Alliance military facilities and assasinate Alliance leaders, even to the point of Heero mistakenly killing an Alliance official working hard for the peace of the Colonies, giving the Alliance's twisted media machine more mud to sling at the Gundam "terrorists."

Later on, OZ, a faction within the Alliance, rises up and overthrows the establishment on Earth, only to replace it with an even more ruthless regime. The Gundam pilots continue to fight, even as we see it from the other side, through the eyes of Zechs Merquise, the "Lightning Baron," who pilots an old mobile suit called the Tallgeese, and later the Gundam Epyon, as well as a crap-load of other OZ characters.

As things progress, a faction of OZ that calls itself White Fang, breaks away and fights for the freedom of the colonies, but its methods are questionable. Things mount to a climax when White Fang tries to hurl a gigantic chunk of a space station to Earth in order to destroy it...
