Passage to Dawn

Storyline
R. A. Salvatore once again shows his amazing writing ability with the storyline for Passage to Dawn. The book follows the adventure of Drizzt Do'Urden, a dark elf who left his people in the underdark and has become a ranger. Along with the dark elf is Catti-Brie a young woman who was adopted by a dwarf when her father was killed in an orc raid while they were in a wagon caravan. Drizzt now sails with the famous Captain Deudermont chasing and capturing pirates. Drizzt soon finds news of an enemy, the one who hates him the most, and Drizzt believes this enemy has his father held captive. Drizzt must now find who this enemy is and at the same save the captive of this dangerous enemy.
Characters
R. A. Salvatore brings the characters to life in Passage to Dawn. Drizzt Do'Urden as always gradually gains wisdom at the sight of what takes place with his friends. Salvatore deeply enters the characters' minds to allow his readers to see just what they are thinking. Salvatore also gives you a good picture of the characters and you can see them in your mind almost as if you are looking at a picture. He does brilliant work with putting his characters into the book and switches the point of view around so you can understand how a certain character feels about a certain event. At the same time he doesn't do this switching out of order and none of what occurs is very confusing keeping you understanding what is going on at all times.
Action
R. A. Salvatore in my mind is the best writer when it comes to putting action into a book. His books put lots of fighting, gore, and blood into the story in a way that I have seen no other writer do. He is descriptive in the battles and seems to put into detail every strike and parry. The action sometimes combines magic, speed, and strength, but many times it's just brute force. This in my opinion is what makes for good action in a book.
