Dragonball Z Special- Bardock, The Father of Goku

Here is another special from the Dragon Ball Z series and it is titled Bardock the Fathere of Goku.
This movie takes place before the Dragon Ball, Z or even GT series started. This feature is kind of a prelude to how and why Frieza destroyed the Saiyan race.
Well, our adventure starts out at the Planet Vegeta, and we are sent to a room on the Planet Vegeta, where we see a little boy. Now by the looks of this boy, long black hair and a loud cry, that this must be a Saiyan.
To alien workers that work on Vegeta make a little side bet that this boy will become a powerful warrior, more powerful than Vegeta maybe. The other alien disagrees and the other alien points out that this baby has the cry of a warrior.
This infant's name is Kakorot.
In the next scene, we are taken to the planet Kanassa. The race on this planet has been predicting the coming of the Saiyan's. The Saiyans come (in Oozaru form) and kill all of the Kannesian people.
The next morning we see Bardock and his team, discussing the battle and Bardock's son. Bardock, who seems to really not remeber anything about the night before or his son. Then all of a sudden a Kannesian comes out of the rubble and energy blasts Bardock. He tells him that he will now have the ability to read minds and have the ability to see into the future.
Bardock, who is mad at this insubordinate being blasts the you know what out of this guy. Bardock is still obviously spent from the previous night so he loses consciousness.
The we come to a scene where young Vegeta is training with the Saibamen. Vegeta is way stronger then his low lifes so he easily dodges their attacks and destroys them. Vegeta then comes out of the training chamber, where he is greeted by a young Nappa with hair. Nappa starts sucking up to Vegeta, and Vegeta tells him to shut up (lol). Vegeta tells Nappa that he is tired of training missions and that he wants a real combat assignment.
He then exclaims that someday they wont have to take orders from Frieza anymore.
We are then taken to a scene with Frieza, Dodoria, and Zarbon, discussing the how inconcievable it was for a group of low-class Saiyans to complete an assignment not even their Elites could do. Frieza is then starting to realize that the Saiyans are becoming more powerful than he had expected.
At just this moment, Prince Vegeta barges in and tells Frieza that he is bored with these puny training missions and that he wants a real combat assignment. Zarbon, who is enraged by this, is about to teach Vegeta a lesson. Frieza stops him and actually gives Vegeta an assignment, this startles Zarbon and Dodoria. Vegeta is very satisfied and tells Frieza that he wont let him down.
Meanwhile, Bardock's crew is sent on an Elite assignment, however Bardock isnt fully recovered yet so his crew leaves without him. Bardock seems to be recovering well though, the Doctor notices that if Bardock keeps getting beat up like this, he'll be stronger than King Vegeta. He also notices that his brainwaves have changed a bit.
We are then back to the nursery where Kakkorot starts to cry, this somehow triggers something in Bardock's brain. Bardock begins to see visions from the future. Bardock is confused, he sees a planet blowing up, his son, and members of his team being killed. He then realizes that this wasnt a dream and he wasnt asleep. The doctors pull him out of the recovery and tell him to take it easy for awhile.
But Bardock being the individual that he is, decides to join his crew, but before he leaves he decides to check on his son's powerlevel. Of course, it is only average, and Bardock thinks Goku is nothing special, so he takes off towards Planet Meat, where his team is.
In the next scene we see Tora and the rest of Bardock's crew getting pummeled by Dodoria's henchman. Tora asks why they are doing this, Dodoria tells them that they were getting to strong and that they must be destroyed. All of the crew is destroyed except for Tora.
Bardock arrives on the planet and flys to where he feels a power level. He sees Tora and flys over to his injured body. Tora tells Bardock that Frieza is scared, he is scared of what Bardock might become, Tora then dies.
Dodoria's henchman show up and begin to fight Bardock. Bardock has some visions from the future, and it shows Kakkorot fighting Frieza. However, Bardock still manages to defeat the henchman.
He then takes on Dodoria, but he is to strong and Dodoria knocks Bardock out with one mouth blast. Just as Dodoria is about to make his deathblow, he is called back to the ship. This luckily gives Bardock sometime to pull himself together.
Kakkorot is sent to Earth.
Dodoria tells Frieza that his mission was accomplished. Frieza tells him that he missed one. But that wasnt Frieza's main objective. Frieza decides that he will annihillate the Saiyans with one final blow that will kill all of the race, by destroying Planet Vegeta.
Bardock flies back to Planet Vegeta to warn his fellow Saiyans about Frieza's plan (Bardock read Frieza's mind). He goes into a popular hangout and tells the people that Frieza is coming and that everyone needs to get out of the planet so they wont get destroyed. The laugh at him and mock him out of the bar. Bardock realizes that there is nothing he can do accept attempt to destroy Frieza.
As he makes his way towards on of the tops of the rooftops he has another vision and it is of Kakkorot. Kakkorot tells Bardock that he must at least try his best to defeat Frieza. Bardock flies off of the roof and Frieza sends his henchman after him. There are thousands upon thousands of them. But Bardock miracleously makes it through the waves of people. Frieza who is quite annoyed about this comes up out of his ship and creates a little energy ball.
Bardock tells Frieza that they dont work for him anymore and that he needs to find someone else to pick on. Bardock throws an energy ball at Frieza. Suddenly, Frieza makes his little orb grow to the size of a small planet and absorbs Bardock's energy ball. Frieza chunks his oversized death bomb at Bardock and the rest of Frieza's former henchman. This ball destroys Bardock and the rest of the Saiyans. But Bardock knows that he did not die in vain, for his son will avenge him and the Saiyan race.
We next see Kakkorot being found by an old man named Gohan. Gohan decides to take Kakkorot in and take care of him. He names the boy Goku.
Review:
This special was a great prelude to the Dragonball/Z/GT series. Lots of action and excitement but also sadness. In the end the special made you feel happy. I give this special a 5 out of 5. Excellent special.
