God Bless That Girl...
I'm Canadian, and proud of it...what I'm NOT proud of, is the fact that I have to watch a 3rd rate...well, not EVEN 3rd rate...more like 28 1/2 rate dub of DBZ.
In Canada, FUNi distributed the dub of DBZ for YTV until episode 167, "Gohan's Desperate Plea," then suddenly, it stopped, and we were back to the Android saga. I e-mailed YTV, asking what happened. They responded, and said they had a contract with FUNi until episode 167, but they decided to NOT renew this contract, and they would not elaborate why. I was then told, the REMAINDER of the Cell Saga, and the Buu Saga would start up again in the FALL. And I had e-mailed them in the SPRING. Quite a while to wait for Cell's destruction.
The finally, after a summer of waiting, new episodes! And as the episode started, "Android Explosion," I noticed an itsy, bitsy little difference, they changed EVERY voice actor. EVERY VOICE ACTOR. No longer was I blessed to hear the light-hearted tone of Sean Schemmell's Goku, none of Sonny Strait's now perfected Krillin, and no...no more of Chris Sabat's powerful/proud/conceited/rude/arrogant Prince of all Saiya-Jin's...Vegeta.
I was forced to listen to a lifeless Goku, an emotion-deficient Trunks...and the worst of all...a raspy, tobacco-stained, midget-like squeal of a Vegeta. It makes me fall to my knees and cry my poor-eyes dry when I think about it. "What did FUNi DO???" I screamed in rage, not understanding this terrible turn of events. Then as the half hour of pure voice acting torture ended, I saw the haunting logo which chases me in my nightmares..."OCEAN Group."
Let's go over a few things, expand on what the observant Amanda Cilio already mention. Not only is alot of violence cut, and lame censoring over any "bad" word such as, "Kill, dead, death, die, etc," changes are made for no apparant reason. We all know Videl, right? The black-haired fox I have a crush on? lol. Well if you saw her on the street, would you say, "Hi Videl?" How about, "Hi, Vye-Del!" That's how you pronounce it now, according to OG...VYEDEL. V-del is how it's supposed to go, but nooooooooooo, OG will have none of that.
When Trunks killed Cell in his own time, what did he say? "The nightmare is over Cell, DIE!"
OG Version: "The nightmare is over Cell, FRY!"
Euh?? Excuse me?
How do you like your Cells done, crispy? Or medium rare?
This is getting too long...sooo...I better wrap it up, and I think I can do that easily, with one last example of OG'S grandeur...
