Adult Swim Information & Line-Up.                                    © by Sam

Introduction: Here are a few more questions we asked CN and Adult 2Swim Reps. I think we will try to adapt to this style of releasing news, instead of me answering all those e-mails. I know everyone likes these small talks with Toonami and Cartoon Network.

Sam: Recent schedule grids (like TVGuide.com, and CN official schedule grid) and many others, are just listing the 10pm to 1am block as "Home Videos" or "Adult Swim" without any names of the "individual shows" inside the "Adult Swim" block. Why is that?

Adult Swim Rep: The reason many of the TV Listings resources are not listing the individual shows for "Adult Swim" is that the line-up will change somewhat from week to week. Also, there are 15 minute shows included within the franchise, and some listings sources are not able to recognize these programs.

Sam: Can you make us a small "Adult Swim" schedule line-up, that tells us what specific air-times those "individual shows" will air during the "Adult Swim" block?

Adult Swim Rep: Ok

** "Uncomfortableness" - no talk for a few minutes **

** a sign of relief from me **

Sam: Ok, Fans have come across the www.adultswim.com site. Is that official "Adult Swim" site?

Adult Swim Rep: Yes, we own it. It’s officially registered to Cartoon Network and Turner Broadcasting System, Inc.

Sam: Would you like to convey any message to young Toonami adults out there?

Adult Swim Rep: I hope you'll plan to tune-in to "Adult Swim" when it premieres over Labor Day weekend.
Adult Swim Rep: Thank you again for letting us know that our programming matters to you.

Note this conversation happed last week when our site was down, so we were unable to release this information at the right time. Also now TVguide.com and other schedule listing are listing the names of the 15 minute shows within the "Adult Swim" block. But we have the schedule line-up for the next month, which TVguide.com doesn't have. Not a whole lot of changes coming for the next weeks except "Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law" and "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" will be swaping time slots randomly...

Adult Swim TV Rating Evaluation System.

• Home Movies (TV-PG) : may contain in-frequent coarse language and limited violence.
• The Brak Show (TV-PG) : may contain in-frequent coarse language and limited fantasy violence.
• Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law (TV-14) : strong language, and fantasy violence.
• Sealab 2021 (TV-14) : strong language, violence, some suggestive dialogue.
• Space Ghost Coast to Coast (TV-PG) : frequent coarse language and limited violence.
• Cowboy Bebop (TV-14) : contains sophisticated sexual themes, strong language and intense violence.

As you know these TV Rating System offers little help to the viewers in monitoring violence and dialogue. I can bet there will be kids from ages 9 to 13 (tweens) watching Cowboy Bebop, because of its heavy publicity on the net. I know a 10-year-old kid who is all keyed up and excited because Bebop will air on CN. Even though Cowboy Bebop has not started airing on Cartoon Network, it is has mentally become the #1 show on Adult Swim block. For the start The "Adult Swim" block will revolve around the often hilarious Space Ghost Coast to Coast. But eventually the Adult Swim block will turn into a fully Adult Anime block, just like it happed to the Toonami block. Using profanity in a TV show is not exceptional. It has been calculated that word "ass" air almost 3 times per minute on your Television sets.

The Cartoon Network's VP of Programming, Mike Lazzo stated: "Animation has never been an art that was solely geared toward kids. Space Ghost was created for an adult audience -- and it has developed a loyal cult following. Now we have created a group of shows that we think will become appointment viewing for fans of smart, funny television."

Although some fans will still tune in to watch Pace Host is Toast to Toast, DontSeelab 2001 and Hairy Fishman: Notary at Awe; its comedy or dialogue won't impress them alot. Ultimately these shows will start to disappear and anime shows with sophisticated themes, partial nudity and complicated plots will replace them. It will take about 2 to 3 years for this theory to kick in. Creating the "Adult Swim" block for Cartoon Network represent a major step forward in terms of content for the network and could open the door for mature anime titles like Neon Genesis Evangelion and Rurouni Kenshin. Just for the hell of it I'll post the few TV Rating System, it might grab your attention.
