PARASITES on the NET

      • Why doesn’t my anti-virus software detect this::::::::::::

Most of these software Parasites isn’t viral: LAMENs Term - it doesn’t spread from computer to computer, it just installs and runs on one system YOURS. Now don't get me wrong, That doesn’t mean these parasites are not harmful, it just means anti-virus software does not attempt to detect all software that could be harmful it detects software that IS harmful. some anti-virus programs do detect some of the parasites. Parasites that install using IE security holes are more likely to be targeted by the anti-virus software vendors, but the selection of targets seems for the most part to be pretty arbitrary. For this reason there are now a number of anti-parasite packages around that work as a complement to anti-virus software. I reccomend the following to assure and help you RID you browser of these parasites.

Next. HOW the HELL did I get infected::::::

- The infamous "freeware" that everyone now a days love to DL. Well guess whats bundled with this FREEWARE Yupp parasites. Most Peer 2 Peer programs IE; iMesh, Grokster, KaZaA (yes even Kazaa LITE) ETC.... come with numerous unwanted add-ons DLL files and sometimes even Backdoors (discussed in another section of the site) and conveniently enough these Parasites are AUTOMATICALY installed onto your computer and nicely enough to not be included in the UNINSTALL of the program it came with. I know we all love our P2P Proggies so here you go
- SOLUTION: read the small print when you install the program. it should WARN you about the impending SPYware and it is sometimes let you "opt" out so to speak. Does they always tell you about it, well by the new privacy act for the internet YES they must, But by the old Privacy act. THEY DONT ALWAYS follow the rules.

- Many parasites load by means of IE(Internet Explorer) ActiveX Download and installation option PERFECT example of StarDIALER and Xupiter. When a web page includes a link to an ActiveX program, a window will pop-up asking the surfer wants to execute/install it. If you clicked Yes the software is allowed to run and can do all of the above mentioned on our computer, including installing parasites.
WARNING !! If IE security settings are set lower than normal alsa called MEDIUM it will automaticaly run the program without even asksing you.
- SOLUTION: Set your IE security feature on at LEAST Medium. Open up IE Browser, go to tools > internet Options > Security then click the EARTH and set the tab below till it says medium read the description about ActiveX it should say it won't install UNSIGNED ActiveX. If you have done this, you will now be prompted with the Pop-up asking you to install any ActiveX embedded into the site and my advice DO NOT click Yes I wish to DL and Install. UNLESS you are %100 Positively sure you trust the publisher of the software, which often times won't be the owner of the web site you are at NOTE: read the dialogue box very carefully. And lastly Dont be fooled into the old "you need to DL this to view the site correctly" I mean shit I can make a pop-up that say "you need to DL this Trojan to view my page and while your at it send my your ip" Dont be fooled by thinking the digital certificate on the code makes it safe. It means no such thing. ‘Microsoft Authenticode’ means only that the company that wrote the software is the same as the company whose name appears on the download prompt, nothing more.

WARNING !! Some of the really BAD naughty ASSHOLE parasites, particularly homepage-hijackers and diallers (porn, Hackers), execute by exploiting (ways of getting code to run that are not supposed to be possible) security holes (mistakes in the browser) in Internet Explorer.
- SOLUTION: You can do your best to guard against this by ensuring you have the latest updates and patches from Microsoft (I can't stress this enough You need to patch). SzR DISCLAIMER: there are MONDO security holes that have not yet been corrected, so you can never be 100% sure you are safe.
- ALTERNATIVE SOLUTION: you can use a different web browser for everyday browsing, and Internet Explorer only for sites you trust that just refuse to work with other browsers NETSCAPE, OPERA, *NiX.

Now lets get rid of these BASTARDS and keep them out of my PC.
